This article is an embarrassment. We could have had some players if we would have just stayed on them. And for the amount of recruiting staff we had for their to be miscommunication is bogus.

The grades this you can’t be mad at. They took a shot but the kids just didn’t care about school enough. That’s not the staffs fault.

I do believe the recruiting will be better than the Kelly era. I am concerned if the coach will match the the Kelly era.

I think it just needs to be deciphered at times. Gonna be right most of the time, wrong sometimes though. Taking a kid or his family’s word at face value can be a game you have to be skeptical about which is a lot of this stuff in retrospect. Like do I actually believe we were an academic hurdle away from Walker Howard? Do I believe they believe they that?

Most of what Loy posted he’s hinted or said in the past in some fashion. The Wesolak one is a new one for example but all the PSU commits, Walker Howard, Cheeks etc he’s said before.

I agree with what you are saying. Some kids play the system because they watch their parent play it. Other kids are very truthful and up front and honest.

The bad part is that the kids that play the system seem to get more attention than the honest ones.

Yes. The McGregor and Walker recruitments have really blackpilled me on this. Our regional rivals are apparently urging their commits to say and do things simply to make ND look bad.

Still don't buy it on Allar; can't blame Ayomanor for not liking Caleb Crawdad; Wesolak wasn't gonna end up Irish after getting charged for a felony in October; and I'm skeptical of the Howard story just like Allar's.

How did ND mess up with ALLAR? I don't buy it if you want a school even if they wait longer than another you don't hold a grudge. Who knows if he really would have came here, besides if he does then does Buchner transfer? Does Allar sit for 1 year then transfer?

Every year Burnt Ends was testing the waters elsewhere, there ended up being a lot of bed-shitting in the recruiting department.

Allar aside, the most frustrating one for me is Lander Barton. We were told we led but we were full privately at that time. Not much to complain about at LB, lol, but I'd take Lander Barton over Junior. That guy is going to be a stud for Utah. Total beast. In fact, he'd be our highest rated LB per 247.

Went to a game of his this year. The kid is comically massive compared to the team he played. All of 6'4". I wonder how he will do in college since he seems just so physically developed for a high schooler, and didn't seem to be super fluid and athletic which is what I think Freeman looks for in his linebackers.

But he was definitely a great high school player.

247 came out with a "combined" team rating which includes high school and transfers and we dropped a notch. The team who passed us was none other than LSU. I guess Kelly's not the disaster we've been hearing about.

Of course these ratings are just incoming players, not who left. There were plenty of them most before he got there.

It's easy to focus on misses and "could've beens" but the class is #6 in ON3's true consensus rankings.

I don't lose much sleep over Allar because I think he might actually kind of suck. He has #1 overall pick upside, but holy hell his accuracy is Wimbush level right now. He's high-upside, low-floor.

The only recruitments that I tend to think were malpractice were Pope, Tabaracci, and Barton. I think you make room for all of those guys. I don't know how much I buy the Saunders stuff but with a lot of these guys it is "early bird gets the worm." I am much less worried about these sorts of hypotheticals with Freeman/Rees running the show. There are a number of horror stories from the BK era of them being lazy in evaluating/offering players and having to be told by media members that kids are interested.

This. Important context. He is very much so net-negative on talent. And rating transfer players with varying degrees of eligibility alongside recruits seems like a fools errand by 247.

WR needs to be a major coup in 2023. I'm really pulling for Agneli, but they need to get a top end trigger man in 2023 as well.

Apart from that, very happy. Did the deed in December and added a few key components along the way via the portal. This is just the start. I can't wait to see what this new staff does in the next 12 months.

Yeah I think Angeli is just super meh across the board. Graham Mertz style QB where you see touch and accuracy but no “special” arm talent or anything else that makes you think he can put a team on his back. High floor, low ceiling.

Allar could be a total bust, very few sure things from HS QB’s. But, I’d take 4 Allars every 4 years over Clark, Pyne, Buchner, and Angeli. We’re not even playing the same game at this point.
