I was not always able to hear/listening closely but it did annoy me how much Kirk lamented the losses at WR for OSU when they were struggling but I don’t recall much mention if at all of Patterson and Davis.
Can’t recall to be honest. The whole broadcast was garbage. They spent 5 minutes talking about HH’s return and had the camera focused on Balis. At one point, HH walked in the frame and they still didn’t correct it.

Freeman has to be having buyer’s remorse with Rees.
Should have been smart enough to bring in proven play-caller.
He won’t admit it publicly but guessing his focus will be on the offensive side of the ball going forward.
Believe he responded to Rees pass on 2nd down right before half instead of running out the clock was “that was stupid”

So what could have been different if Avery Davis had been available and TB had another target other than Meyer to throw to, I wonder?

Yeah he said something like “they had a timeout, that was stupid. Come on man.”

My Postgame Thoughts:
1) I picked Notre Dame to lose this game, but I said it would be a win if there were no injuries and it wasn't a blowout- both ended up being a no.
2) This was a winnable game, I think if ND would've made a few more plays on offense and defense they could've pulled off the win.
3) In reading all of these posts, may I remind everyone that the first game of the Freeman era it was a road game, vs. the #2 team in the country, and a new starting QB.
4) Like most have said on this board- Tommy called a really good game the first half and poor game the second half, it is intriguing that the NFL is after him.
5) Buchner gets a pass from me on this game, but next week vs Marshall I would like to see 300+ yards and at least 3-4 touchdowns. If not, that raises questions at the QB play. Coan would've put up big numbers last night.
6) My only complain about the WR's is Lorenzo Styles-- did he take the bus back to campus after the first quarter? Our WR's played bad because of Buchner.
7) Instead of Joseph taking punt returns put Merriweather back there.
8) Can Rocco Spindler play center?
9) As a unit I thought Al Golden's defense was golden. The freshman Morrison was a nice surprise.
10) Notre Dame should remain in the top 10 after last night's loss.

Go Irish!!

My biggest concern was and still is QB,… I have not seen anyone place trust in TB to push the ball downfield. Why?? Maybe it’s not the OC but the limits of Buchner. If they can’t expand the playbook vertical this team will lose 3-4 more games this year

Hard to throw to nobody open
I agree with ACamp, why all the bitching about the WR's?? Buchner started out 8/8, then got worse. Is that the WR's fault?

I think it's time to move on with our younger core of WR's and give them PT. Why didn't Colzie play?

It wasn't the WRs it was the awful play calling. Why no Screens, Tommy? Only one Jet Sweep. So OSU puts 8 or 9 in the Box and Rees makes ZERO Adjustments.

Also, if we are playing Salerno that tells me how screwed up things are. We have a stud WR in Tobias Merriweather and he gets little exposure. Just crazy stupid.

Why are people missing the fact that it’s Rees’ own fault he has nothing to work with?
He didn’t just show up in January.
Because Homers like the Irritable Bowels (IB) Nation want to protect Tommy at all cost and think that getting rid of BK would "unleash the offense" in some naïve Homer rant.

Reality is now setting in that merely hiring an unexperienced HC in Marcus Freeman will not in itself be a "Gap Closing" act.

Time to load up on the Built Bars because its going to take 3 years. At least 2 for Freeman to realize Rees is the problem and another year to get an Al Golden type on the Offense to help get Freeman closer to a Top 3 program.

I disagree, respectfully. He’s not the head ball coach.

Easier to sell kids to MF than BK. Walk the mall soon, you’ll see much more ND gear than used to seeing.

Flipping the perception my friend. Means a ton.

I must say it was nice to be competitive. Our D played well and basically wore down. Visually it seemed OSU's offense line outweighed us by about 50 pounds. Given that, the reluctance on the refs to call holdings...unless it was so blatant, and our offensive ineptness, what happened in the fourth quarter was not a surprise.

Have we closed the gap or OSU kinda overrated? I think the latter. The only noticeable improvement was psychological. The situation wasn't too big. They didn't play out of control. They didn't make egregious mistakes. They competed.

Clearly, Freeman will be a CEO type coach. I do not think he is materially involved in the game plan and game day adjustments. Having experienced or highly competent coordinators will be essential for success. Golden's defense schematically kept OSU off balance. Took away the first read and forced Shroud to go thru his progressions. Rees's offense reminded me of how our offense played at Georgia, and OSU's defense is not remotely as good at that Georgia defense even with Buchner at the helm. Our offense should have produced more, but given Rees's inexperience no adjustment was made or could be made.

Keeping Rees as OC was a bad decision for the program and frankly for Rees. Rees will now be the scapegoat for any failures.

Freeman didn't hire Rees. Swarbrick did.
