Speaking of Golden Tate, our first play would have been a TD if we had a WR like him, even with the safety having the angle. He was just a beast in space.

If they dick around UNC and BYU will give us problems. Clemson and USC are even stronger challenges.

Honest question. Is Styles kind of slow? I was very underwhelmed on that opening play with him in the open field.

What happened to Spindler? Does he finally get his chance now? The 4th quarter pounding of the ball against our tiring D was a big disappointment. Almost felt like our D was letting down. That’s what a Kelly team would do to others. Golden called a good game but when we blitz it needs to get home and be more creative.

If you don’t think having your senior captain in there in a game of that magnitude would have made a world of difference, idk what to tell you.
Would he have somehow turned Lugg into a good OL? Doubt it. He probably would have been able to help Zeke when he would completely whiff his blocks so that may have made a little bit of a difference. I'm sorry, but everyone thought this team would be able to run the ball on Ohio St. Maybe they wouldn't have ran for 200 some yards, but 75 yards is abysmal. This is the norm though for a HH line. Rack up a ton of yards against overmatched teams but any time they go up against a top team, they fold.

Tyree starts his kick returns too slow and seems to always choose the short side and maneuver thru traffic when he should be trying to outrun defenders. Punt returns were a sad situation. Hope this is on the coaching. Otherwise all those fiat catches cost us up to 50 yards of field position.

-I feel more confident than ever that Freeman will succeed here.
-Golden appears to be a home run hire. In another year or two this defense will be loaded with top talent.
-The offense was disappointing as a whole, but especially the line. I feel like I've been feeling this way for awhile now. Even when we were putting multiple guys in the top of the draft the line always came up small in big games.
-Imo, they should've spread them out. It's how less talented teams compete. How they continued to clump everyone together and run into 9-10 man fronts is mind blowing. So we don't have the receivers? Split the tight ends and backs out. Make then defend the whole field instead of a 15 yard box.
-12 will be fine. He showed up in a insane atmosphere and didn't blink. Yeah he was streaky, but that will only improve once he gets a bit more experience.
-I don't know if we make the playoffs, but I see ten wins with Clemson being the only game left that really worries me. If the entire team continues to improve, we might see a rematch later in the year.

Rees better get his act together. And Buchner better start improving. If neither happens, it will be a long year. The offense sucked. The biggest surprise was the defense and particularly the secondary. They played so well that it's a shame Rees and company couldn't produce.

IF that happens for the rest of the year, then the solution is simple. Fire Tommy and get a grad transfer for next season. I don't want CJ to be rushed/ruined by reclassifying like what happened with JT Daniels and I sure as hell wouldn't want Tommy calling the plays.

The sum is greater than the individual parts. Having Patterson in there makes Lugg better by extension.

To answer you’re question, yes - missing one of the country’s best OL absolutely made a difference. He’s the captain too.

Let’s not underestimate this

Agree, for the most part. I liked his composure overall, but his actual performance was choppy. He threw some good passes, while others were atrocious. He will grow into the role. Hopefully, the OL will assist him in this process moving forward, unlike last night.
Yes for sure he could have made better throws at times. But he was pretty efficient and made no real mistakes, in his first game in a really tough environment with a dogshit o line. He won’t be the problem, is all.

I thought for sure we would of gotten blown out...So I'm pleasantly surprised.

1 - Golden - IF you're going to have success doing delayed blitzes you need to be sure of 1 thing and 1 thing only...the f'ing guys your sending are fast enough to get home..my god...those blitzes were beyond ineffective and brutal...like watching paint dry...This is one area that I feel his NFL experience was a detriment.

2 - I don't think Tommy called a bad game...O-line couldn't block and lets be real...Buchner...you guys really want him to let it rip? IMO Tommy is conservative because he knows it can go to hell real quick if he gets to aggressive.

3 - I feel confident in the D going to toe to toe with 'tough' teams...I am concerned when we land on someone with some finesse...USC...

4 - Overall I'm happy that we didn't get molested again in prime time...on the other hand though I'm disappointed, because, if we just had a couple of pieces...we could of won that game.

Once again our OL was not as good as advertised. I was hoping getting rid of Quinn was the cure but we haven't been able to consistently run on talented defenses for years. I understand there have been some recruiting misses, but isn't our OL as talented as other elite teams? Aren't we supposed to have depth? It seems like we have more OL in the NFL than anyone else but never see consistent domination on the field year in and year out. I just don't get it.

I was not always able to hear/listening closely but it did annoy me how much Kirk lamented the losses at WR for OSU when they were struggling but I don’t recall much mention if at all of Patterson and Davis.
Neither were mentioned from what I can recall.

Imo, Tommy was beyond conservative. Air it out? No, but why not run some wr screens in space when they kept blitzing? Even when they were spread out he always motioned the guy back into the box bring more defenders in. It was insane to think they could run into 9-10 man fronts with any kind of regular success.

I had to mute it. Have never gave Herbie that honor before.

His worst moment was when he was arguing with the ABC in house ref on the roughing call when the defender basically speared a sliding Buchner. "Really?? Really?? You see a penalty there?"

I with you on the screens...I was screaming at the TV to run a damn screen...I'm a fan of the old School RB screen...but point remains the same...I don't mind conservative...but you can be conservative and still get creative. So for lack of creativity I'll jump on tommy for that.
