I understand the necessity but kind of hate how Watts has been moved around. For all I know he wanted to make this move but then the past season on defense was kind of a waste for him.

Oh well, one year practicing with the defense won't bury his future. I hope he gets some opportunities on Saturdays and doesn't find out that he's just signing up to be practice fodder. Next year playing time will likely be even more open for him so I'm rooting for this switch back to work out.

He tech has 3 years left I believe so there's no reason why he can't have a bright career and I trust him being able to make an impact with Chanzi as the coach.

Do we know if Watts was officially moved to WR or is just practicing with them so they have an emergency body if needed, but he will still be a Safety moving forwarding only used at WR in case of emergency?

The roster situation doesn't look any better next year so I don't think this is going to work as just a band-aid for 2022.

The Irish could realistically lose all of Lenzy, Davis, Wilkins, and Salerno after this year. That would leave Thomas, Styles, Colzie, Merriweather, and the incoming freshmen as the only WRs on scholarship. I'm not sure you can backfill to a useful group with just transfers.

WR: Colzie, Styles, Thomas, Merriweather

S: Walters, Henderson

Embarrassingly, safety is worse than wide receiver for 2023. The long term play for Watts for both him and the team is safety. The 2022 play could be receiver, but I hope they think he can actually play otherwise Bellamy seems like the better use for practice option

This is right. I've always liked Barnes as a safety too. But especially if Bowen doesn't commit, I think we will really appreciate having Watts at Safety for 2-3 more years (2020 eligibility is nuts)

It's probably a little easier to weather this by replacing Patterson at G, with Correll having taken all the reps at center in camp.

EDIT: I really hope this is nonsense. ND will need outstanding OL play to win the opener.

Barnes, Tucker and Riley are numbers but don’t necessarily represent good numbers at this stage. It’d trust a full year plus of Watts training at safety and having appeared in games to start over a backup CB to move there and start instantly. I think Golden wants to more nickel and dime stuff too

I wish they would stop doing the Covid tests & holding players out for testing positive with no symptoms.
The standards have recently changed & even the new standards are outdated & really make no sense scientifically.

So having potentially more players be sick and unavailable to practice/play is a better strategy? That’s a bold move, cotton.

Before Spring ball Freeman gave him the choice and he chose staying at S. Maybe that changed with the WR depth chart or maybe they just chose for him now.
