We are OFFICIALLY in the midst of a chaos season. The upset alert thread has been getting a workout, and even when the underdogs don't pull it out, the games are still providing quality entertainment and drama through nearly every time slot this season.
Let's hope week 5 provides more of the same... if Bama looks like the favorite to repeat, with only UGA as a threat, let's at least continue to root for maximum mayhem and competitive games that weren't expected to be appointment viewing, but turn into must-see TV.
Thursday and Friday might have their best matchups of the season so far, and Saturday has quality content all day:
THURS. SEPT. 30
.
.
- D'Eriq King is questionable for Miami... his status might be the difference in the game right off the bat
.
.
FRIDAY, OCT. 1
.
.
- Prime UPSET ALERT spot here for Iowa, on the road against a decent team with a good QB.
- Flip over to #13 BYU on commercial breaks, see what the Romney bros (QB and WR) have in store for Utah State.
.
.
SATURDAY, OCT. 2 - EARLY
.
.
- What a start to the day! Woo Pig Sooie in Athens? Huge test for Razorback QB KJ Jefferson and WR Treylon Burks, who might be able to test UGA. Can UGA keep up in a shootout if it goes that way? Or are they too defense-reliant?
- BIG NUDE SATURDAY. I hope the Badgers bounce back and just obliterate scUM... though that's not likely. Probably another low-scoring game that depends on Graham Mertz protecting the ball (LOL)
- Texas and TCU is kind of meh to me for some reason, but there will be plenty of points scored.
- This is the game I'm really interested in... Louisville is decent, while Wake is undefeated but untested. Let's see if the Demon Decons keep rolling.
.
.
SATURDAY, OCT. 2 - AFTERNOON
.
.
- Seriously, holy shit what a day of games. Go Irish. Go Bearcats. This comes down to whether ND's QB can keep up with Ridder, as both defenses have the advantage.
- JOEY FRESHWATER ON DECK, READY TO RUIN NICK SABAN'S DAY. This will be a shootout.
- Stanford is decent. Everyone has written them off, but they closed a shortened '20 season strong, and have been up-and-down against a decent schedule to start '21, including an upset of USC and putting a scare into UCLA. Another upset alert that ultimately fizzles out for this one?
- This feels like a prime spot for a patented KSU upset special
- Rutgers is turning it around, and got a taste of quality competition last week against scUM (ugh). Can they build off of that and test OSU, or are they still too far behind to compete?
- The Gators handled Tennessee, but UK's defense should present a bigger challenge. UK won't win the game if Will Levis can't start pushing the ball down field, though.
.
.
SATURDAY, OCT. 2 - LATE
.
.
- The Big XII may very well be a three-team race between Oklahoma, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. Conference title implications here!
- UNDER-THE-RADAR: Liberty's Cinderella script got spoiled by Syracuse, but Malik Willis is still one of the better QB's in the country, and UAB is opening a new stadium. Pure CFB pageantry and entertainment.
- Indiana escaped WKU last week, after losing to UC the week prior. Can they turn it on and challenge Penn State? Is Penn State REALLY a CFB-playoff caliber team??
- UPSET ALERT: Selfishly calling this one and including it on a long watch list, because I love WKU and their stupid mascot. They need to slow down Sparty's running game if they want to use their air raid properly, though.
- UPSET ALERT: Is it really, though? Clemson might just be legitimately bad this year. Their defense is getting run down by injuries, and DJ U shows no signs of consistency. BC misses Phil J, but they're winning anyway.
- UPSET ALERT: A 9pm kick in Death Valley??? This game is going to be loud and rowdy. Bo Nix is going to be put to the test.
- UPSET ALERT: I see a trend here with the late games... all dangerous spots for ranked teams, concluding with a Pac-12 night cap as UCLA hosts ASU. Jayden Daniels has 2 TD's to 3 INT's this year. This would be a good game for the hyped junior to turn it on in the passing game.
- BONUS COVERAGE: A mango4 special - Montana travels to Eastern Washington for a clash of FCS heavyweights. Co-screen viewing with UCLA/ASU
