We said the same thing about their historic 2017 class and then Tate went to the U as a back up slot receiver and they haven't won it in the 3 years since.

... or they could've come into South Bend and laid a Boilermaker sized egg.

Going back to 2016, Ohio State has played 17 games in which they lost or won by one score... and the majority of those teams were not as good as ND. That's a fact.

Now don't get cute and ask me if I'm gonna bet on ND straight up, I get it but I've seen ND recently be a play away from beating 3 National Championship Runner-ups (two on the road) and losing @ #4 UGA in the same fashion.

Anything's possible, nothing is certain. That's why they still play the games.

You KNOW <strike>5*Phil</strike> 5Buch's is gonna put the team on his back just like D Watson did leading a ragtag band of high 3*'s to the Championship.

I was going to get to that after my workout. At various times throughout the last 3 years ND would be competitive against OSU. Especially middle to end of season 2018. OSU lost to Purdue, went to OT against Maryland, had an ugly win against Nebraska. OSU has been an inconsistent ‘elite’ team as of late. 2017 they lost in the road against Iowa by 31. They also lost a home game against Oklahoma by 14 in which they only scored 16 against a pretty poor defense.

I want to share your optimism on ND's chances against OSU, but I've seen things, sobering things, that make me feel otherwise. I would prefer to be wrong though.

On Story, most the big schools stopped recruiting him so he ends up at NW. Which all but guarantees he’d in our class if we went after him. Will be interesting to follow his career.

Unfortunately we don’t know the story behind some of these kids. Could be no interest in ND, grades, personality fit, or just nt what coaches are looking for.

So to say we dropped the ball on some kids is probably true, but in a number, I’m sure there was lack of interest for whatever reason on one side or the other, or both,

It doesn't sound like ND dropped the ball.

Matt from ISD has repeated that ND is focusing on rush ends to close out the DL class, so a guy like Onye. So sounds more like ND isn't interested and has the bodies.

Armitage and Story are SDEs, which Abiara already satisfies.

They’re not recruiting Onye as a rush end or a Vyper. He’s being recruited as a 5T that can slide inside. So the same position as Armitage. Abiara is the one being told he will play Vyper.

On Story, I don’t think ND dropped the ball here. Way too early to tell but it’s an interesting situation nonetheless. Here’s a one time high profile DE that one year ago we would’ve loved to beat out OSU for. Now here he is falling into NW’s lap. Just interesting to see how things change and whether group think from the major programs will be right. Because it wasn’t just ND that stopped recruiting him.
