Justin Pelic is OVing for the FSU game.

He'll most likely get an offer. He's visited countless times. Was or still is committed to Wake Forest as a PWO. Had over 100 tackles last season.

5.0+ GPA / 1490 SAT

Notre Dame PWO commit Conor Ratigan ‘excited’ for opportunity
By TOM LOYThu Oct 25 2018

South Bend (Ind.) St. Joseph’s wide receiver Conor Ratigan was extended an opportunity to play for Notre Dame as a preferred walk-on and he wasted no time jumping on that offer.

Early on, the 6-1, 180-pounder from the class of 2019 had received a lot of interest as a basketball player and was hearing from plenty of Division II and Division III schools. As he started progression as a football player, schools like Notre Dame, Northwestern and Miami (Ohio) started showing a ton of interest. However, when the Fighting Irish pulled the trigger and made it clear he was a wanted man, Ratigan accepted the opportunity and informed the other schools that his mind was made up.

“Until my junior year, my plan was to play basketball in college,” said Ratigan. “However, during my junior football season, I began to love football as much, if not more than basketball. I still primarily focused on playing travel basketball and played in NY2LA tournaments from April through July. But this past summer leading up to my senior football season, I was asked to attend some summer football camps, including one of Notre Dame’s summer prospect camps. After the summer camp, the Notre Dame staff began to show more interest and talked to me about a possible preferred walk-on position. They indicated that they would follow me during my senior season and keep in touch. Notre Dame then invited me to participate in an unofficial visit to the Notre Dame vs. Pittsburgh game, and then invited me back for the Notre Dame vs Florida State game. The official preferred walk-on offer came Wednesday night from [Director of Player Personnel] Dave Peloquin on behalf of [head coach] Brian Kelly. Dave called me, told me that he and coach Kelly reviewed their personnel, and offered me the preferred walk-on position. He said that they are excited to see what type of player I will become at Notre Dame.”

While on campus recently for the win over the Panthers, Ratigan spent a great deal of time with wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander. The two hit it off right away.

“On my unofficial visit to the Notre Dame vs Pitt game, I also had a great conversation with Del Alexander, the wide receivers coach,” said Ratigan. “He got me especially excited when he talked about coaching a previous Biletnikoff award winner, who was a walk-on. He emphasized that he has coached all kinds of players in different programs, and the true key to success is what’s in your heart. That’s what matters most. If you believe you can succeed, you will.”

An argument can be made that Alexander is the primary recruiter behind Ratigan’s commitment. However, in all reality, it was the head coach that did the work to his longtime relationship with the Ratigan family.

“I have loosely known coach Kelly for 8-9 years, as I have played football with his son,” said Ratigan. “When we were younger, I was the quarterback and his son, Kenzel, was the running back. I am lucky that coach Kelly has attended many of my grade school and high school games, and he has watched my growth as a football player.”

If you’re familiar with the Notre Dame football program, the Ratigan last name surely sounds familiar. Brian Ratigan, Conor’s father, played at Notre Dame from 1989-1992 and was a four-year letterman. He went on to play for a few years with the Indianapolis Colts. For the past 10 years, Ratigan has been the head of orthopedic sports medicine for Notre Dame football and baseball. He, along with the rest of the family, couldn’t have been happier with Conor’s decision.

“Everyone in my family was extremely excited,” said Ratigan. “My Dad was especially very proud, as he and his brother, my uncle, both played football in college. As for my friends, they have been blowing me up on social media.”

As a senior, Ratigan has 42 catches for 526 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 63 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups on defense this year.

The logistics of those two seasons would be crazy. When was the last time there was a football/basketball player? There are a ton of football/baseball and football/track, but those are both spring seasons.

I remember way back when(late 70's, early 80's??) Mike and Willie Townsend played both sports.

Have zero idea how good he is in BB. His tape on hudl, to me, didn't look all that great. Saw more plays on D than O. With the BK connection, I think it's safe to say he's a great kid.

Hope he is better than what I saw on film, but I'm good with just having a good, hard working kid in the locker room. If he can be that type of guy on the BB team, I'm good with that too, especially if they totally whiff on all their targets and need bodies.
