wonder why though all the qb's they have been looking at are pro style

Look at what Chip Long wants to do and look at what we've been doing. Unless you have a Cam Newton or Vince Young, you can't win with running QBs.

That's my guess anyway. I'm sure they'd love a dual threat but a pro-style offense is probably where we're best suited from a recruiting standpoint.

This brings up the million dollar question... What does he want to do now?

His only OC experience was with a pass only QB in Riley Ferguson.

His time at ASU was with:
Mike Bercovicci = pass only
Taylor Kelly = Dual threat QB with Kizer like stats

Now that he's been cross pollinated with BK and HH, who is he? Did HH's philosophy change BK and Quinn or are we in for a 100% Cincy offense or a Cincy/Memphis hybrid employing HH's blocking schemes and OL personnel?

Long's history suggest he'd prefer a pro offense and continue with HH's zone blocking schemes. He'd like powerful RBs/OLs who can get the hard yards and he'd like a pro QB because given what we ran the year prior, it was all based on timing.

He molded his offense around BW's skillset but it was so limited, the whole offense was handicapped.

Given how we recruit OL/TE, I think he'd like have a pro-style offense with 2 TE sets with a number of wrinkles mixed in (motion, misdirection, etc).

LB Interest (Regional/Visitor 4*'s)
.8968 3* Cameron Williams - IN - 1h15m - 9/9/17
.8928 3* Jackson Hannah - TN - 6h55m - 1/27/18
.8889 3* Jamir Thomas - OH - 4h40m - 6/17/17

Similar to the TE board for 2019 I think we'll see a ton of changes in the 3* rated guys because of many rankings not being out yet (ahem, ESPN). I think Lance Dixon, Keith Maguire, and Kalen DeLoach are future 4*'s on most of the recruiting sites. Now for recruiting it looks like the staff will probably target 2-3 prospects after their big haul in '18. I think Brandon Smith is the clear cut #1 want for the staff at LBer and has a huge April 4th visit coming up. Osi Ekwonu is a definite want, but i'm not sure what will happen if he wants to play with his brother or not. Landing Smith & Ekwonu would make this an incredible LBer haul. After those two, I think ND can possibly steal Cade Stover, but signs point to OSU on this one. Lance Dixon should be an interesting one to watch because he's wanted by OSU, PSU, UM, ND, and MSU. And I think ND lead for Keith Maguire at one point and might still, but he's blown up and seemed to love his Clemson visit this past weekend. Dream class would be Smith, Ekwonu, and Dixon imho.

Direct from him in Anna’s recent article.

Then the new lean is acknowledged.

As much as I'd like Maguire to be one of the ILB's, there's an unusually large pool of ND fit LB's this cycle and ND could go as low as 2 IF no one leaves via transfer or medical. Hard to be worried. It's not like if Joseph Anderson had fell under Dabo's spell.

*Tried to rep ya but IE says I rep ya too much as is.

Could we take him at rover? I love his game. Hopefully we can get him to commit. I know Ekwonu is an ND lean right now as well.

I'd think he's a Buck - Mike prospect. Traditionally, the Elko/Lea Rover has been a S/LB/WR in HS that's 6-2/6-3 and under 200lbs. Simon is the exception. JOK is the prototype.

Not sure Rover is a need this cycle now that they threw Robertson in the LB's.

Haven't heard anything about him, I'm sure there is a reason, but watching his film, he might be my favorite QB out of the top group. Anyone else watch his film?

In the pocket, he's as good as anyone. He's not the athlete ND usually wants at the position. He's tossing 3700 yards in the best conference in the country that's full of 5*/4*/3* DB's. On the flip side he has (I think) the best WR in the country in Kyle Ford and maybe the best #2 in future ND offer, Logan Loya. Plus he gets a top 5 TE back this year in Ethan Rae. His '18 #'s will be epic.

Jamie at IE said he thought he threw the best at last year's ND Offer tryouts.

So for the OL, it seems that we are in it for a lot of solid recruits and I think we have a lot of good Plan B's but I am kind of worried none have popped yet. Wish we could land Quinn and Olmstead soon.

I think we are going to have another good defensive haul too especially in the secondary and defensive line.

This falls in line with the new official visit theory. The theory is that guys aren’t choosing so quickly because they have an opportunity to take these 5 OV’s or a couple for some spring games. I think by May 15th or around then you’ll see a ton of guys fly off the board around the country that would probably have been committed if they were in a 2017 or 2018 class. As for the OLine, Quinn Carroll should hopefully be a spring decision as he’s seen all he can see from ND but is just building a relationship with Jeff Quinn. John Olmstead is visiting in April and that will be a big visit to figure out commitment timelines. Bryan Hudson is a big time track guy so he said he might be able to do a quick visit this spring but maybe not till April and maybe not till June. Zeke Correll seems like he is between us and Ohio State but I have no idea what commitment timeline he has. The Hawaiian boys have never visited and a couple of the other offered guys have not as well. I think if by May 15th ND has no OLine commits then you can maybe get stressed a little, but remember, Jeff Quinn was hired only a few months ago.

Just as an FYI, Brian Kelly, Autry Denson, Dave Peloquin (Player Personnel), Clay Bignell (GA), & Bill Rees (follows only a few recruits), all started following Zonovan Knight, a 4* Duke RB Commit from North Carolina. Might need to be added to the list if he wants to sniff around

FSU is the dream school, per his words. I wouldn't put too much into this recruitment at this time.

Big news indeed, he's a heck of a prospect. Hopefully we can blow him away, because as of today I think he stays close to home.

Though he is originally from Missouri, not Cali, and he's friends with Kyren Williams and they've already been talking about ND together.

Mellusi & Jones in the same class would be an epic RB haul. You can add any 3rd APB to it and its an outstanding rebuild for a position that had a few early losses to it

If moving Armstrong is permanent, which a lot of people think he looks very comfortable at RB. Then I don't think we are bringing in 3 RB's this cycle like previously discussed. I'd bet it's 1 APB and 1 RB or 2 RB's. If you bring in 3, that leaves 7 scholarship RB's in 19'. And 6 RB's in 19' with 3+ years of eligibility. That's overkill, IMO.

Get those scholarships to DL/defense in general or OL.

Yea I think Austin Jones, Chez Mellusi, Steele Chambers, and Kyren Williams would be great additions. Steele Chambers seems like he would be an awesome back to add as he seems like a future 6’2” 230-240ish type RB which is something ND doesn’t have anything like. Jones & Mellusi are just fantastic RB prospects. Kyren Williams seems like he could be a slot guy too if Jafar stays at RB which gives the ND 2019 class some nice versatility.
