With the 37th pick in the 2017 IE Mock Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select:

Budda Baker, S, Washington

hqdefault.jpg

The Rams need help on the OL, at WR, and at S.

They addressed OL during the offseason with veteran signings, and can draft potential replacements for those vets in the next two rounds, where the value makes sense. They want a sure-fire No. 1 target at wideout, but the value isn't there to take a chance on one of the next WR's available, either.

That leaves safety, where the need and the value meet perfectly here in the early 2nd round, with Budda Baker there for the taking.

He's undersized, but he's a playmaker, and most importantly he doesn't have many durability questions at this point. He's got game-breaking speed for a safety, allowing him to flourish in coverage, but isn't afraid to stop the run, either. He's a difference maker, and a good way to start the draft for a team that didn't have a first-round pick.

Trying to import picture Wooly provided.

With the 35th pick of the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears pick...

Joe Mixon: OU, Runningback.

r960-389e23aae27d3560df6ebe3695edf389.jpg

The Chicago Bears knew this pick would shock viewers. Not only is it earlier than mocks have him penned, but also because the Bears have Jordan Howard and Jeremy Langford. The problem is that both are inconsistent and both are inside runners, where Mixon adds a different dimension. The Bears committed to picking the "best possible player" and they have Mixon graded as the best running back on the board. With the loss of Alshon Jeffery, the offense is in dire need of another player maker. Mixon gives them not only a "thunder & lightening" compliment to their current RB's, but Mixon can also run the entire route tree and return kicks. He will be used to spell Howard, on passing downs, as a change of pace and even spread out as a WR. They are also confident that they will be able to put him in a situation where they can help manage any off the field issues. In this situation, the Bears picked the most talented player left on the board. Leaving any other consideration behind

Wooly this pick completely disgust me. Mixon is a pitiful human being and shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL.

If Ray Rice never got a second chance, neither should this piece of sh*t.

Couldn't you have gone with a similar player in Alvin Kamara. Kamara also would give the bears a breakaway threat and thunder & lightening backfield. Not to mention Kamara is just as good a receiver.

If I'm Sherm, the DL gets addressed with a DT like Malik McDowell or Caleb Brantley. The secondary got addressed with Peppers.

One site's Chargers writer chose McDowell in the mock with their first pick at 7. Great value here at 38.. Nice to choose between the top two DTs, falling to you with your second round pick.

2017 NFL mock draft: Los Angeles Chargers surprise with Malik McDowell

I wasn't anticipating picking for the Chargers in the second round. But I am more than happy to pick for them.

Give me till the morning to do some research on additional team needs for the Chargers.

And thank you for the advice Legacy.

Spare me the theatrics. You think all the guys playing for San Fran are angels? They have cut two dudes (Brock & McDonald) for far worse assaults than what Mixon did. The reality is that for every good citizen in the NFL, there are three thugs. That's life man. Kamara isn't a "similar player" he's a less talented version. The fact is that Mixon very well may be the most talented back in this class. So a team is going to take a chance on a kid that did something stupid and reprehensible several years ago. Since that time, he's been a model citizen. Visiting children at the hospital, being a good student and staying out of trouble. How many years, millions of dollars and loss of career before you're satisfied?

Oh... and in the time you were blasting my pick, maybe you could have made your own? You've been on the clock since yesterday.

The only thing I disagree with Wooly about is that Jordan Howard is inconsistent, because his production was pretty darn consistently good. The rookie only had 3 games with less than 4 YPC, and he still went over 100 yards in one of those (vs 9ers). The kid is good, but he definitely could be upgraded, which is why I think Mixon is a good pick as a player, because Joe can also help out in the passing game. That being said, I'm not sure that Ryan Pace would make that pick, since the Ray McDonald signing blew up in his face back in 2015.

Good job, wooly.

Does somebody have the Panthers? If so, that's fine. If not I'll take it.

It's listed on the first post of the thread, you're in for the Panthers.

Just don't steal my pick right in front of me.

With the 38th pick the NY Jets select:

T.J. Watt, OLB, Wisconsin
26_4964490.jpg

The jets entered the draft with QB, OL, CB, LB, S as needs.

Two of these positions have been addressed in QB and S.

The Jets looked at the OL board and saw top 4 linemen taken between picks 20-35. feel like would be reaching for next lineman at this spot, especiall for tackles. There are some worthy G's in the 2nd. So the Jets plan is to wait until the 3rd or 4th to hit the OL.

The Jets looked at CB's Jackson and Tabor here. And both are value picks. But ultimately the Jets still like depth at CB in this draft can address later along with OL.

Finally the Jets looked at their current LB situation. David Harris is aging, Julian Stanford struggling as a full time stater and rookie Darron Lee disappointing as a first-round pick in last years draft. None of the LBs are playing the run well, nor do they provide much in terms of pass-rushing ability. The Brass really liked Harris from MZ went to dallas at 28 and the Jets decided they couldn't pass on the next best available rusher from the LB position in TJ. He fits the rush position within the Jets 3-4. Watt performed well at the combine showing good speed, athleticism and plenty of upside.

With the 38th pick in the 2017 IE Mock Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select:

Malik McDowell, DT, Michigan State

Bengals GM IrishLion has officially hijacked the draft (along with Legacy), and is now being hired by teams across the league to make picks. Hopefully we didn't mess this up for Sherm.

The Chargers could use help at corner or offensive line with this pick, but there is too much value (both real and specific to the Chargers) in picking McDowell at this spot.

He plugs a hole that exists in the Chargers' new 4-3 defensive front. They're good at DE, but need help on the interior, and so McDowell is not only good value for being around still, but also presents value specific to the Chargers' needs.

Bonus value for his versatility: he can rush the passer from DE if the Chargers develop some type of Nascar package for 3rd down.

With the 29th pick of the draft the Green Bay Packers select CB Gareon Conley, Ohio State.

22468222-mmmain.jpg

While Conley is not a blazer or a pure man to man coverage guy he is a corner who is good but not great at pretty much everything a corner in the NFL can be asked to do. Packers cornerbacks group has shaky in the past few years due to inexperience and the inability to hold onto expensive veterans. Conley will add some stability to the group bringing good size and great length. He has the profile of a future number 1 corner but as a rookie he will likely be a number 2 and feature on special teams.

Updated my pick finally (apologies I have been working a in plant down here in Mexico and haven't had best internet access)

I'll take the Packers 2nd round pick too if its going.

With the 40th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select...David Njoku.

david-njoku.jpg

Nobody may know how to pronounce the young man’s last name, but Panthers fans will have plenty of opportunities to do so for the foreseeable future. David will step in as the #2 tight end and learn the ropes from another formidable former Hurricane (and favorite target of Cam) in Greg Olsen, who is sneaky old at 32. NFL.com even compares to Greg Olsen: David Njoku Draft Profile – NFL.com Njoku is not a polished blocker at all, but he’s an athletic beast who will feast on seam routes and terrorize defenses for years to come.

David Gettleman is very surprised to see Njoku still available, but he's not complaining. Cam’s happy, everybody’s happy.
