Clashmore - Let me get this right, Torres is "your guy" but Rex sucks? You are either high or know nothing about basketball, IMHO.
The kid is a 5 minute energy infusion with 5 fouls to inflict on the other team, big athletic body to throw himself around the paint. Love the guy as a role player but it makes zero sense for the program to be giving him more burn than Burns right now. Really don't want to rag one one of our own in the middle of a rough season so I will stop there.
Rex did not have a good game but he is a good passer/ball handler, premier one-on-one defender and solid enough scorer to keep the other team honest. He is being asked to do too much offensively, not driving/finishing well in the paint and the offensive burden is draining from his defensive work. Then again - increase zone usage greatly diminishes his ROI vs. man. The kid won dunk contests in HS, would be nice to see that in some finishes - plus he has passed up a ton of open lanes. Feel like he could benefit from playing 30 minutes balls out instead of pacing himself for 40 if he is going to need to push that hard on both ends of the floor. Rex is essential to our success - he cannot be a top 3 offensive "go-to" guy, he needs to feed off the flow. The more he thinks about it the worse he does. Focus on elite defending (if you deny he is an elite defender you are aren't paying attention) and let the offense happen. Kid is a warrior out there and I really don't get the negative shade thrown his way.
So on one hand - you embrace (your guy) Torres in spite of some serious limitations and on the other hand you hate Rex? Utterly ridiculous.
