Doss is playing well. Defense doing well against the Syracuse Dodgers. Love the Irish midfield dodging in first half. Syracuse face off man is crushing on the draw. He's clamping at will. Good first half.

Doss is MVP of that half. Going to be hard to close this game out without winning any faceoffs. Syracuse is as advertised, but our defense is legit right now.

That experiment running 3rd line out there was cringeworthy. Right now only the first line can challenge Syracuses D.

Glazener was not supposed to slide there. No rotation, easy goal. Absolutely hosed by the refs at the end of that game. Finely with the most clutch play ever there.

Awesome!! That is great.

So I assume 'Cuse was ranked #1 in college LAX? What about ND?

Nice win, congrats Lax. I like this team. Great recognition by Near catching Lecky behind the cage.

Clutch play #1: Finley winning a faceoff to himself against arguably the best FOGO in the country and taking it to the house for his first career goal.
Clutch play #2: Shane Doss making an absurd save on Donahue in OT.
Clutch play #3: Jack Near -- who has the greenest light ever in transition -- deciding to win it himself when he easily could've deferred to the offense.

Excellent win! Great crowd at the game. The late game lead coughing is worrying though...looked like a repeat of the Denver game for a moment there. The face-off margin must have been brutal, I didn't keep count.

This was a great game. It was a hard one for me to watch considering they are the two teams I root for. Couldn't have asked for a better game. We will see what happens in the next two games they could potentially have. Clearly the two best teams in the country.

This was an incredible game! Thank god they won too because after the way the hoops game ended I would have been a grump all week. I felt like someone stole my puppy several times on Saturday, but that goal in double OT made my day!

Light up Grace Hall! Cascade/Maverik Media Poll: Notre Dame New No. 1 | Inside Lacrosse

EDIT: cool angle of the Jack Near game winner... was the #2 play on Sports Center.

Sad that goalie plays never seem to make highlights. Shane Doss had a ridiculous save on Donahue to get the Irish to 2OT.

Big one today lads! What's everyone thinking? 2 of the biggest and toughest middies in the country on the field in this one. I think this is a day for Kavanagh. Duke loves those giant defenseman dating back to the Pressler days. Time to break some ankles. I'm thinking the Irish by 2 or 3. 12-9, 13-11, somewhere along those lines. This time of year is when Dino usually gets his guys playing well for the tourney.

I'm worried that Duke got to 14 against UNC on an "off" day... their first line of midfielders with Class and Jones is probably the most potent in the country. Last year we shut down their dodges from up top but had no answer for the two man games from the wing or behind the goal.

This is usually the point in the season where Duke starts peaking. They're usually crap until the calendar hits April and then they start playing focused. I don't think we hold them below 11, so it'll come down to the offense getting 12+... which should be doable, but we'll need to win faceoffs.

I agree. That spread offense they run with the 2 attack men GLE and the middie 2 man pick and sweep game really spreads out the defense and plays to their athletes. Going to be interesting. A little zone to combat that Lax? Looking forward to this one. Danowski is just reloading yearly now.

I'm not sure if you have to change much of the defensive scheme, but I do think you need to discuss at length how and when you slide. Need to aggressively slide upfield to Jones and Class... need to be very slow to go from adjacents on the 2-man games from behind or on the wing. The majority of the offense will be run from there, IMO, in order to get Class and Jones free for step down shots. We have a much better chance of surviving low angle shots from their attack than a barrage of 12 yard looks from good angles.

Here are my keys to the game:
1. Win faceoffs. Duh. But basically, ND needs to do what it did at the end of the game last weekend... go with Finley + Epple on a wing. Finley went 50% against one of the better faceoff men in the country and should be able to do at least that against Duke.
2. Be prepared to run the offense through the midfield and Doyle when they throw a junk defense at Kavanagh. Do not force feed him.
3. Do not give up easy goals in transition to Haus. Make Duke play settled 6v6.
4. Press mismatches with Near, Collins, and Ossello against players that aren't supposed to be on defense. Duke's aggressive scheme falls apart when they get O-mids stuck playing defense where they are inept.
5. Make their attackmen beat you. They aren't good enough to score 10+ goals on their own, they need their midfield to pump in the production. Be slow to slide to attackmen all day and make sure the midfielders see no daylight.

This sun is unbelievable. Going to directly lead to a Duke comeback in this quarter.

1. Check. 16/29 = 55%. If we can get that the rest of the season we'll be in business.
2. Check. Doyle dominated with 7 points and they got the ball to Kavanagh in situations to be effective. Midfield offense was also really impressive, only downside being how Perkovic is dealing with getting poled.
3. Check. No cheapies.
4. Kind of failed at this one, but it was due to Duke design. They bailed out and played an off-ride pretty much the entire game which really limited transition chances, Ossello didn't take faceoffs, and they were EXTREMELY cognizant of Near even throwing doubles and quick slides at him. So limiting ND's ability to create transition offense definitely made the scouting report, and it was also executed well.
5. Check. Their attackmen didn't do anything all day. The reason why Doss had so many saves was also in large part due to how we closed out on shooters. A lot of bad angle or rushed shots... not a lot of clean looks. And the clean looks they did have Doss made a couple spectacular saves on. Myles Jones was limited to 2 points. Overall, their first line midfielders shot 3 for 20 which is hilariously bad for anyone, much less two All-Americans.

Hit 4 out of 5 and got a comfortable victory.

Random crazy moment of the day was Will Corrigan got absolutely robbed of an obvious goal at the end of the game. He buried a shot that hit the bottom triangle and bounced out of the goal. Was about 6" inside the post and the net moved and the refs missed it. Thank God that didn't happen in a bigger moment.

New week, new polls... Notre Dame still on top. Notre Dame holds on to the top spot in both the coaches and media polls, and also the top spot in RPI (what is used during the seeding process) and top SOS.

The Irish take on #13/#15/16 Marquette tomorrow and then have a big 10 day break before taking on #4 UNC on 4/18. Both games are at 4 PM and will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Some really big games this week... #4 UNC takes on #2 Syracuse in Carolina on Saturday. Should be an awesome game, if Syracuse wins then ND will win a share of the regular season ACC crown regardless of their result against Carolina and it'll come down to tiebreakers for seeding. Duke host Virginia with the winner getting in to the ACC tournament and the loser playing an exhibition game against Penn that weekend.

Hopkins lost to Ohio State this past weekend dropping them out of the top 20. They're officially in "must win" mode at 4-6... they either need a conference championship for the AQ or they need to beat Maryland in the regular season. Those are their only ins.
