Notre Dame beats PSU tomorrow due to PSU being very hungover from the first night of state patty's.

FWIW, Michigan hung in there for awhile with PSU.

They were only down 5-3 before PSU went on a 5 goal blitz in the 3rd. Michigan ultimately lost 11-6.

Michigan vs. Hopkins coming on TV soon if you want to see a massacre on ESPN3... thought it was also going to be on ESPNU but right now it says Valpraiso basketball at 1.

Duke lost again last night, this time to Penn. very similar to the Denver game... had a lead after halftime and then gave up a barrage of goals eventually losing by 5. Duke is going to need to win at least two of their "big" games to make the tournament now... Loyola, Maryland, Virginia, UNC, + ACC tournament games.

#1 vs. #2 about to get underway on NBC Sports... should be a great game. Think Maryland could potentially win in a blowout despite getting smacked last year by Loyola. No Josh Hawkins again today for Loyola as he remains suspended indefinitely.

Definitely turn it on if you're bored... a lot of athletic talent on both Loyola and Maryland.

Maryland smacking that *** right now... 5-1 at the end of the 1Q. Crazy fun game. Maryland is ridiculously good. Sooooooooo athletic. Glad this game is on TV.

Wow....that game went better than I expected.

Someday, when Michigan wins multiple national championships and is a lacrosse power, children will be told stories of Gerald Logan.

Playing through that game, against that team, with a separated shoulder wearing oversized makeshift shoulder pads took absolute guts. He had some brilliant saves.

I thought for sure JHU would break 20.

Next up for Michigan is army down at Sun Life Stadium in Miami (thanks, Stephen M. Ross) in the Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic. It'll be on Sun Sports on 3/2.

Hopefully Michigan can steal one. Their only victory in program history was in the sunshine state.

ND beat PSU 10-9 in OT. Sounds like the end of regulation was exciting, judging by the UND article:

A late flurry from both teams sent the game into the extra session. Notre Dame tied the contest (8-8) with 24 seconds left on a Conor Doyle goal, which was his career-high third of the day. Ryan Foley assisted on the score. The Irish took a 9-8 lead with just 18 seconds remaining when junior Liam O'Connor won the faceoff and scored his second goal of the game. A tally from Penn State's Tom LaCrosse with one second left knotted the contest at nine apiece.

Kavanagh Overtime Goal Gives No. 3 Irish 10-9 Win At No. 8 Penn State - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

ND is now 2-0 with wins over #4 and #8. They play #9 UNC on Saturday.

Game was ridiculous. Hopefully we get some good highlights put up at some point that capture the insanity that was the last minute of that game. We had 3 goals in the final 20 seconds. The ones PSU has up right now are total BS... not a single ND play in them and no grasp of game flow.

PSU has a really good, really well coached team. I expect them to make the playoffs this year.

Some other game notes:
-PSU got called for multiple stall warnings during the game. What is ironic is that two early stall warnings kind of forced them into a transition game where they ended up being really effective clearing quickly and then initiating the offense.

-Our faceoff game was once again "meh" but Liam O'Connor scored 2 goals off of draws which is mighty impressive.

-Our clearing/riding game is atrocious right now. Like really, really bad. I don't know what the issue is but a couple blown clears plus poor transition defense is why PSU held an advantage for most of this game. There was a series in the middle of the second quarter where our turnovers/inability to clear lead to effectively a 5 minute possessions for Penn State. This MUST be corrected and could be a huge issue against UNC next week. They're a team that loves to run and is incredibly proficient at scoring off of slow/fast breaks.

-We really controlled the game in the first quarter but couldn't blow it open and then a transition goal by PSU cut the lead to just one. After that it was largely PSU controlled action until the 4th.

-I think we desperately miss Pat Cotter at midfield. I think he's the missing piece for the first line as Will Corrigan is just not getting it done right now at the level he needs to. Corrigan was really effective last year on the 3rd line in a limited capacity but so far he has not elevated his game and is too one dimensional. The second line is interesting and I'm not sure yet what to make of their long term prospects.

-Conor Doyle has a LOT of potential. Needs to get a bit better at protecting the ball but he could be special by the time he is done. Has a very complete skill set. If this team is going to win this year, I think he and Kavanagh need to play at an All-American level and produce 5+ goals a game.

Nice write up LAX. I agree the game was crazy...but very fun. The PSU crowd we sat with was very friendly, and acknowledged good play from both sides. They were very impressed with ND's defensive slides and aggressiveness with their D.
I thought ND looked too lackadaisical on their clears. Hopefully that does improve.
I was impressed with O'connors improved faceoffs in the second half and really think he turned the tides of the game. I also was really impressed with Kavanaghs quickness. He's going to be a gamer. Great team and great people. We stayed after the game and the players were fantastic with my boys....engaging in conversation with them and signing some LAX balls for them. Very impressed. I really hope this team improves every week and takes it this year!

Finally got some highlights of the ND vs. PSU game. Missing Nd's first two goals but oh well. Enjoy!

And better highlights of ND vs. Duke:

Big game a talent but vulnerable UNC team on Saturday at noon. The Marcus Holman lead UNC offense is one of (if not the single best) offense in the country when clicking. Their D has been a little shaky so far this season though so if ND can get to ~11-12 goals we should come out with the W.

Some really intriguing games on Friday... UVA/Syracuse and Princeton/Hopkins. Maryland vs. Duke on Saturday is a borderline must-win for the Blue Devils. Penn State vs. Ohio State is also intriguing... i'm predicting 5 goal victory for Penn State.

Hopkins vs. Princeton on ESPNU right now. Pretty solid game so far... Princeton incredibly efficient on offense. Tied up 3-3 going into the second. Think Hopkins could run away with it if they start making their shots.

My boys and I just got done watching Princeton/Hopkins. Princeton was definitely efficient on offense. They really controlled the tempo of this game and deserved the W. On one of their man up possessions, Princeton moved the ball around better than any team I have ever seen. It was quite fun to watch.

Man is Schreiber tough to defend! He just has another gear out there. Saw him in high school but he has developed into an amazing talent!

Weather for tomorrow lax? Any chance game is in Loftus? I really like the Irish here regardless. I don't think any coach does less with more talent than Breschi. They never look on the same page on defense despite high school all Americans up and down the roster. They are dangerous on the attack, but that seems to play into ND strength. Really looking forward to this one. My 2 dream schools growing up. Great weekend to you all.

Game about to faceoff at noon. Broadcast link on UND.com.

For ND to win I think we need to win faceoffs. If we keep it respectable in that department I really don't see us struggling to score 9-10 on UNC and while they have an EXTREMELY talented team I'd be surprised if they got north of 10 goals on us without a lot of transition goals.

I have to run some errands so someone be prepared to give me a first half recap haha

ND got owned in the 3rd quarter and is down 2 heading into the 4th. The oddest part is ND dominated faceoffs but couldn't get any stops and Kemp is really making no saves... probably his worst statistical game ever. UNC goalie having one of his best games ever.

Headed to a second OT. UNC made a save and cleared and then hit a pipe with 12 seconds left in the first OT.

Shots by both teams in the second OT. ND clears with 1:16 left and calls timeout. Chance to win it here.

UNC goalies makes two saves. Shooting accuracy really not there today for ND but this goalie is also having the game of his life. UNC ball with 25 seconds left in second OT.... best case scenario we're headed to a 3rd.

EDIT: and to a 3rd OT we are headed. ND dominant on faceoffs today but not capitalizing enough... UNC goalie making big saves to keep the game going.
