Looking for a reason to hate Duke? Try $10/month to watch them stream sports like lacrosse. Notre Dame, and most schools that don't suck, stream their stuff for free. No way I'm paying for that and I'm PISSED I'm not going to be able to watch the game next weekend.
ND up 4-0 in the second quarter. Game is in a freaking blizzard and super sloppy
ND up 8-1 at half. Absolute *** kicking right now and super fun game... worth the $10 to stream it. Kavanagh living up to the hype with 3 first half goals.

Oh how winning changes everything ;)

Nice to see the season get off on the right foot.

Blog: 02/16/2013 - Notre Dame at Duke | Inside Lacrosse

Box score:
ND DUKE
SHOTS 37 29
GROUNDBALLS 28 34
FACEOFFS 7 15
CLEARS 22/25 15/19
SAVES 10/15 8/21

Headliners and notes....

Kemp was really darn good... even making a couple "wow" saves on sure goals. 66.7% save percentage is awesome especially against a team as explosive as Duke. Could repeat as first team AA.

Matt Kavanagh in his first collegiate action had a dominating 5 point (4G, 1A) performance. Jim Marlatt was just as spectacular with a 6 point (5G, 1A) performance... he should repeat as an All-American in his second year and might push for 1st team honors.

Brian Buglione is the 3rd starting D replacing 1st team AA and 4 year starter Kevin Randall. This was expected/known by most coming into the game... and he played pretty darn well during the game. He wasn't a really heralded recruited but he's supposed to be a very good player with great size and most people thought the defense wouldn't miss a beat with him stepping in this year... looks like they were right. The defense was smothering with on a couple breakdowns that John Kemp mostly cleaned up. One first half goal was just a lucky awkward shot, the first second half goal was a broken clear odd man break, and then the other three were pretty good offense.

The clearing game was not very good and we were horrible at faceoffs... and somehow we still dominated the game. With better faceoff play/clearing the score might've been 18-2. That will really need to be cleaned up moving forward... it was also a huge issue against Team USA and the difference in that scrimmage.

Conor Doyle was surprisingly absent as a contributor. Looks like the Westy Hopkins to midfield move didn't work and the starters at attack will be Kavanagh, Hopkins, and Rogers for now.

Michigan loses their first-ever ECAC Conference game to bellarmine on the road, 12-6. Michigan took a 3-0 lead but then gave up 6 straight goals which ultimately doomed them.

They allowed BU's best player, Cam Gardner, to score 6 goals. Starting GK Gerry Logan embarrassed a BU attack by checking the snot out of him. However Logan got the worst of it and had to leave the game with a shoulder injury.

Not good especially since Michigan's next game is at #5 johns hopkins. Game will be at 1pm on ESPN3 next Saturday. Oy. That one is gonna be brutal.

Michigan does have a winnable game after that death match. On the road at High Point. I expect a win there.

Elsewhere... Virginia survives Drexel in OT.

UNC blows a 4th quarter lead to UMASS 12-11. Huge win for UMASS minus their best player... and looks like I was right on my prediction of this being the most exciting game. UMASS goalie came up with a big stop at the buzzer to seal the deal.

Georgetown blew an 8-3 halftime lead to freaking Lafayette and lost in OT... pretty shocking result for the Hoyas.

Michigan hung around with a bad Bellarmine team until the fourth where Bellarmine scored 5 goals to win 12-6. Disappointing for Michigan as this was one of their winnable games.

PSU vs. Denver is tomorrow at 1 on NBC Sports. Loyola vs. Delaware in progress now... Greyhounds look slugish for the #1 team and carry a 1 goal lead over a bad Delaware team into halftime.

Based on today's results, any argument for ND not being the #1 team next week is invalid. They were by far the most impressive team out there.

High Point game should be close. They're in a similar position to Michigan just going DI. I'm definitely going to try to see that game if it is broadcast anywhere.

When Michigan goes out and grabs a real coach (and there a bunch of really top notch coaches who would take the job) they're going to be a team to watch. Probably still about 2 years away from really competing for a tournament birth.

I think they get High Point, Hobart, Detroit and steal one against Saint Joe's.

Hobart has a solid squad this year, don't underestimate them. I think you've got the best chance against Detroit, High Point and St. Joe's... in fact, I think you'll be favored over St. Joe's... they're pretty terrible.

If I had to pick a "surprise" win it would be Ohio State. Schuss is one of the best players in the country... the rest of that team is "meh" across the board and they play AT Michigan.

Delaware ties the game up with Loyola 8-8 with 26 seconds left. Wow. And then Loyola scores with 4 seconds left to win. 9-8.

Brief (kinda crappy) highlights of the win over Duke.

Heck of a start to the season.

Penn State with a big win against Denver, 15-12. PSU held the lead virtually throughout.

Mount Saint Mary's just upset #18 Bucknell 12-11. The Mount bounced back from a beat down at the hands of #2 Maryland. They figure to challenge for the NEC title this year.

Of note in the game, Brett Schmidt had 2 goals and 5 assists. The 2 goals extended his streak of consecutive games with a goal to 30.

Cody Lehrer's 4 goals put him over 100 for his career.

Penn State will be really tough next week. Their attack is worlds better than it has ever been in the past. Plus they're extremely well coached and have the kind of goalie that gives us fits.

The worst thing is that they scored half a dozen goals on no-angle shots from GLE and that's the kind of shot we try to force teams into taking... so if they're going to convert those chances regularly we could be in trouble.

Albany and Syracuse all tied up at 15 late in the 4th... Albany started 3 Native Americans at attack for this game... Lyle, Miles, and Ty Thompson. I think they have 10 goals between them so far.

Albany upsets Syracuse 16-15 in double OT. Thompson to Thompson for the game winner.

The weirdest thing is that the elder brother Jeremy Thompson was an All-American at Syracuse... yet these kids all opted for Albany and now Syracuse has suffered a defeat comparable to Michigan losing to someone like Western Michigan or Ohio State losing to Toledo in football.

IrishLAX,
I want to say I absolutely love your lacrosse information. I joined the site just to say thank you for your information, specifically with ND lacrosse. I expect great things from this team this year. I'll be at the PSU game next week so they better come ready to play! I agree though, it's going to be tough.

Thanks for the kind words! I'll probably be at the game as well next weekend... my little brother is at Penn State, so my family is probably going to road trip up for the game work permitting.

I really can't understand this Albany program. A few years ago Marr had them at #2 for a good portion of the season, followed by a 3-4 year drought. It is early, so I can't gauge how good they really are yet, but it is fun watching the Thompsons play. I'm pretty shocked at the amount of 1 on 1 goals generated from dodging attackmen today. I figured more match up issues would come from the midfield with the rule changes. Some porous close defense today. Really scratching my head wondering who will separate themselves this year. It looks wide open so far. Cant wait for next week and Penn State. I'm aging myself, but I played against Tambroni when he was at Hobart.

Albany has all the tools to remain competitive. A new stadium, very good academics, very reasonable tuition (keeps some in state talent home with partials), etc. Looks like Marr is there for the long run, so stability in coaching. I have a few friends who brought the program from D3 to D1, so I have a soft spot for them.
