What I find fascinating is the "love" Woods is getting on this site. It seems to me that the individuals who post on this site generally emphasize the ND student athlete is a model for not only academic excellence but just as important, they are individuals of high character (which I agree is a good reason to root for the Irish). Woods actions off the course could never be considered ethical, and on the course he often exhibits behavior that could be described as boorish (especially from someone who allegedly has so much "respect for the game").

Now I don't want this to evolve into a debate on the quality of Woods' character, but I am curious to know from those individuals willing to overlook Woods' character flaws (presumably because of his golfing talent) will also overlook or forgive indiscretions and/or questionable ethical decisions made by players and coaches at rival institutions (such as USC, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.)?

I won't pretend to be deeply religious, but I do like this

You obviously misinterpreted my post. I am not condeming Woods for his behavior. I am simply wondering why you would root for someone who wouldn't give you the time of day versus let's say Day or Snedeker?

I think I properly interpreted the essence of your post and replied with my answer as to why I am willing to overlook his shortcomings as a human being.

As for rooting for Day or Snedeker, well they're fairly boring.

jspags – the flag stick is no different than any other feature on a golf course, be it a rock, tree, divot, etc. Exceptions are made for conditions that are abnormal such as standing water.

I have benefited from sh¡tty shots that bounced off of some thing or another or skipped across water. Should I have taken penalty strokes? There have been many occasions when the flag stick, and even the flag, have stopped the progress of the ball and "deposited" it in the cup. Should a stroke (or two, depending on the skill/handicap of the player) be added to their score?

It's a pisser that Tiger's hitting the flag stick had such a poor result, put it's part of the silly game that so many love to play and watch.

Oh, I totally agree with you. As the current rules state, Tiger was penalized properly. It's just such bad luck to any player who hits the stick on a good shot like that. I was being half sarcastic and half serious about how many foolish rules there are in golf that they couldn't make one about that situation that gives a player relief. I mean...they get relief on a ****** shot that ends up pinned against the stands or a spectators chair or something but not if it hits the stick. I'm not saying Tiger was wronged by the penalty as the current rules stand.

Day and Snedeker, et al., are grist for the mill. They could win, and it would be great for them and their wives or whatever, but it would be a waste of the Masters for me. Tiger is one of the best handful of athletes that will compete in any sport during my lifetime. I want to watch him do his thing, and every major that goes by where he isn't in it until the end is sand through the hour glass of my chance to watch transcendent greatness. All of that off-field stuff is his business. He didn't kill anyone.

Also, the bible quote you are using is generally made by those who cannot compose an intelligent argument. Further, as is frequently the case, the most important statement made by Christ as noted in John 8:9, where Christ tells the woman that she is free to go but sin no more. John 8:4 is not a free pass.

Do you know Day or Snedeker? Maybe they wouldn't give you the time of day either. I bet Day hates old people, hates children, and hates dogs.

I once saw Tiger kick blind orphans. Fact.

One of those orphans gained his sight from the impact of the kick and the other was adopted by a family after they saw the story in the news.

If you're there, you leave $86.99 in the cup holder of your weekend car.

Anyways, you can't not love this tournament. Sucks it only happens once a year.

Scott earned it. The big putt on 18 in regulation, and then the putt to win in Sudden Death. He earned it.

Only downside to this whole thing is watching Stevie Williams celebrate. Otherwise, no real complaints from me after I got over what happened to Tiger on Friday.

Paying 87 bucks for a $5 Chinese made umbrella is about the same as leaving it in a rental car. Me, I'd invest the $174.

Screw Stevie.

Adam's alright. Another belly butter takes one down...Is that a Grand Slam for belly putters?
