6/5 ASU, 6/8 Colorado, 6/15 Ole Miss, 6/22 ND. Only EJ Holland was able to get an update. Extremely quiet kid.

I thought ISD said that the staff wasn't pursuing him anymore?

Staff doesn’t waste OV’s on telling a recruit they’re not recruiting them anymore. Almost always, OV’s mean they’re probably a take. OV’s are limited and very strategic so ND wouldn’t throw them away until maybe a fall game day to bring in some long shot 4-5*’s.

It does sound like there is some uncertainty post visit about the direction of this recruitment. Apparently, he’s a tough nut to crack. Some questions around his personality fit.

8/12/19 Decision Date

Arizona State: 6/5/19
Colorado: 6/8/19
Ole Miss: 6/14/19
Alabama: 6/15/19
Notre Dame: 6/22/19

Visited all 5 of his top 5 in June. All out of state a pretty far schools so no real regional advantage. Kid doesn’t talk to media much at all and no CB’s or futurecasts. This is a fun one cause I don’t think anyone has any clue as to where this kid might go. EJ got an interview with him 5-6 days ago I believe and in his podcast mentioned he’d probably think Gonzalez might follow his sister to Alabama. It’s an unknown right now but I’d have to imagine if ND is recruiting him hard then they can’t be worse than #2 in this recruitment. We’ll see!

Any sense on whether he’s a take at Alabama? (I ask b/c neither his rating nor offer list is quite that elite, and they offer everybody. But I’m not sure what their board looks like at DB.)
If not, we’d seem well-positioned in that top five, if he’s a fit at ND (I’d note he has offers from Duke, Northwestern and BC, which bodes well in the academics department). Would be nice to land a safety after all.
I guess we’ll see. Tis a mystery.

From what I have read there is a concern of a fit with Christian. Apparently, he is a quiet shy kid, which is totally cool. But, the staff is looking for vocal leaders and communicators at the safety positions.

ND’s got 4-5 years to get him to yell a little more. No need to get picky with a non-existent safety board. He’s a 4 star talent so they need to take him if he’d even consider ND. They need talent in the back end.

Seems like an incredibly simplistic way of putting it. Regardless, this one isn't happening. Moving on.

His GF is an Alabama soccer commit.

ND didn't lose him. For this kid in particular it sounds like he really needed to find the right people he could connect with and open up. Like Sherm said, very quiet and reserved kid that no school was quite clear if he fit or liked them.

Committed to Purdue.

Per someone on Reddit, apparently his brother-in-law is former Purdue QB David Blough. That explains a lot.
