Passing on Redding was a comical mistake and many of us called it at the time. How this class is rounding out reminds of '12 all over again... small class, got way too picky too early, and then it imploded close to signing day after ND didn't get it done on the field.

Let's hope this one finishes better.

Personally not that big of a Redding fan. It's the rest of the whiffs that bother me. If I were them I'd just pump the brakes on WR recruiting for now similar to defensive end. A lot of things can change when we get back to playing football and Nebraska wins 4 games again, Michigan fires their coach, or Washington reverts back to its rightful spot on the PAC 12.

1) I think the staff wasn't impressed with Redding, thus why they passed on him. Have to say, I felt much of the same. Felt he was overrated.

2) This year is absolutely nothing like 2012, at all. We are currently sitting at 13 recruits on July 1. By this time in 2011, Kiel, Neal, Day, Stanley, Shumate, Russell, Jones, Brown, Okwara and Mahone were not committed to us. That's 10 of what turned into a 16 player class, not on board yet. Shepard and Greenberry didn't abandon ship because of what happened on the field. They left because Shepard wasn't acclimating to the academic environment for one reason or another and Greenberry realized that Shepard wasn't going to be there and panicked. Darby may have been the one guy who decommitted due to results (considering he committed to FSU who ND lost to in the bowl game). Not to mention, ND appears to have overhauled their recruiting formula since the early Kelly days. ND had an unusually high amount of defectors in 2011-14. Those numbers have since dwindled considerably.

What happened in between offering Redding and passing on him made them decide he wasn't good enough? No actual football was played....

Sometimes it’s a game or two the coaches see and recruit him and as he comes in for visits and stuff they start adding more video and more coaches opinions on him and then they soured. I think it’ll be a mistake. Time will tell but i think the #1 WR at IMG in any given season should be given a loooong look. Kid might have a monster senior year. There’s also a possibility of poaching him with an official visit in the fall if they circle back. It’s not UM commits are done and never gonna flip. Those guys are all basically soft commits down here

Not everybody they offer is a take. If you want early offers then this is part of it.

If we lose Watts, I’d scrap the board at WR and start over. Get Bill Rees evaluating it as if it were Day 1 and get prepared to pick it up once football starts in the Fall.

Nebraska improved tremendously as the year went along. Take a look at their schedule/results. Not saying they will be monsters this year, but I can see them top 20 easily. Their 2019 schedule is ripe for a turnaround. I actually expect them to be the most improved in 2019.

IIRC Tee was never officially cleared by admissions and the staff was still trying to get him approved when he arrived. I don't think he ever got his HS grades to where they needed to be.

I will be surprised if ND lands Watts, he was gone in my opinion after he said he "almost committed." How many times have we heard that?

My dream class would've been Johnson, Henning, and Redding III at WR. I still would like to know what happened between ND and Henning.

ND is wasting their time still trying to recruit McMillan. He's not going anywhere, kid is from Fresno and ND has whiffed in the Fresno area.

I think Watts will end up at Nebraska.

What a jerk lol. Getting everyone on both sides all riled up.. I’d like to know why he was thinking Nebraska for that short period of time.

Wiltfong is a hype man these days. Wouldn't surprise me if it was just for clicks.

There is still possibility he ends up playing defense right?

It sounds like that was more of a, if you struggle on offense or can’t find your spot, we won’t just leave you there. We’ll move you to defense and give you a shot there as well. Which, at least initially, he really liked hearing. But he’ll start at WR. Whether or not the ratings services or fans agree, he’s been a guy they’ve wanted for a long time at WR.
