Long way to go with Baker and Christ. I feel confident ND is in amazing shape with all 4!

I'm out on Zinter as the 4th OL. Seems like a great kid and fit but I don't see the need as a player. Give me those 3 and leave a BPA spot open for someone else.

Don't beat yourself up. I had to pull out my Texas Instrument to figure that out.

So what the hell happened?
The realization that he might not see PT until his 4th, 5th year if at all. I liked him like I like Christ but in both cases I think they made better choices for themselves if they actually want to play and can do it at P5 Universties.

At ND I'm not sure when they would get there chance with the backlog of talent and as good as they are I think the strong '21 class that ND is all over that they had a greater chance of falling throiugh the depth chart cracks to go with the class that they just brought in with the '19 class.

Idk, I feel like we say this every year "they're in great position with the position in next year's class". Sure feels like we were saying that about OTs recently.

So for '19 his biggest competition at the interior spot would be Zeke (Center prospect), and Quinn (if they have the luxury of playing him at Guard), and for '20 probably only Zinter? How's their interior OL board look, because he could definitely be playing in his 3rd year, unless ND starts pulling in some monster guards.

Well they got who they wanted last cycle at all spots. Carroll and Kristofic at OT’s. This certainly stinks as Skoronski would be the top inside option on my (irrelevant) board. Hopefully make a push for Atteberry and Monheim. Though I don’t feel good about them. Zinter is probably most likely and Baker seems like it’s a matter of time (very soon time).

Right, and that's pretty much 3 Tackles (who are most desperately needed) and a few other Guards. Atteberry is OSU's to lose, right? I have no idea how interested Monheim is. But if Skoronski is as good as some claim (I gotta defer to Crus on talent evaluation), then losing him is pretty big, because I don't love the interior guys from last cycle, and am unsure that Sko would be anything other than the top Interior guy in this year's class. That's why I'm skeptical about depth chart being the answer, though it very well could be. Guaranteed 3 or 4 years or starting at NW, but it's not like at ND he'd be waiting for his 5th year like Ruhland.

I don’t think it had to do with playing time. I’d assume relationships. NW had been on him for long time and consistently. Pretty sure there was a period of time where the interest from ND slowed and that probably impacted it to some degree.

Even the kids who truly are about the academics still care about playing and showcase there abilities to the NFL. So what I think is happening is just like I said in my previous post. What they are seeing is the Luggs of thevworld who most likely would be quite highly thought of elsewhere where he would be playing for a good P5 school. At ND he's stuck behind such talent he might not see more than 1 year of significant PT.

I figured somebody on this actually has legit insight on this situation given who it was.

Ok I’ll bite.

I have zero inside info. but by the looks of things he picked a school that he feels sets himself up for a quality, top notch education and a chance to be an immediate contributor on the football field. If the JJ McCarthy thread shows, it’s not just the coaches that could give off vibes of wants and commitment. The kids can do the same and choose other schools. Happens. Respect their decision without assessing blame. Have to think with the strong haul last year that there is a plan on the part of the staff and they will fill spots as they see fit. Oh, and it’s May 4th. Too early to toe the cliff.

I'm not freaking out about this. It appeared, based on Intel from the recruiting sites and people on this board, that he was an ND lock. What changed? Given his background I figured someone would know definitvely.

For some reason I don't think we pushed very hard for this kid

As of late we did, but we didn’t throughout the entirety of his recruitment. And ultimately, I think that’s what won out. Familiarity and comfort with NW’s staff.

Quinn has certainly taken a couple of big L’s here recently but I don’t think panic mode is needed.
