Staff must be super confident in their recruiting position at both OL and RB if they are indeed turning away the talent that has been reported. With regard to the OL, it would seem they are also very confident in the quality and quantity of talent available in the '21 class to be making these decisions now. I hope they are right.

You have to imagine they want Carmody to make a decision far enough out before Atteberry comes so the Atteberry's can cancel their travel plans.

The sad part about this is that Atteberry is probably going to have to start his recruitment all over in June. Ohio State has 5 commits and maybe takes one more (Josh Fryar, Michael Carmody, Reece Atteberry all vying for it) or they’ll sit tight and tell Reece to move on. ND could also get Carmody in the fold and stop recruiting him. He likely fell in love with both programs as they’re big time schools. Luckily for him, kid is Uber talented, looks like he’s got his academics in order (high academic offers), and should be able to find plenty of other schools that would take him. It’ll be interesting to see where he lands. I’d take #2 Crus and I hope Carmody does it in the coming days so they can tell Atteberry they’re done.

If he doesn’t end up at ND or OSU it won’t take more than a call or two for his recruitment to be running full speed.

No info, but I have a feeling Carmody is slipping. I think he really likes ND, but he's really liking a few places is my guess.
Texas A&M is very different than ND, and he loved that visit and they're a real player now. Maybe he wants to do his own thing.

It'll be classic ND to miss out on a play of his caliber because we were "waiting to offer." Meanwhile, ND went after (and missed on) a completely mediocre player from Virginia. A lot of the recruiting in this cycle is A+. It really is. But there are also some head scratchers.

The mediocre guy was from MA, Jimmy Christ is a top tier target regardless of what the Star Boi's have assigned him.
That said, they should have had him in the first wave, just like Pyne since his brother in on campus. I would have given him priority over Christ, and I liked Christ more than Carmody Jr. film for Jr. film. With Baker aboard, I'm just looking for an athletic RT who could be a good LT if something happened to Tosh in 2021, 2022 or 2023 if he's still in South Bend.
Carmody is the most athletic OT in the class per his basketball film.
Landing him and Baker would only be trumped by getting Baker and Paris Johnson and that didn't happen.
Now, any serious effort put on landing a devout LDS kid who is leaning BYU and isn't gonna show up until 2022 that could have been spent on Carmody, was seriously whack.

So I mentioned several months ago that ND was doing an amazing job of getting all their top dudes on campus. In total they offered 20 2020 OLineman this cycle and they've gotten 19 on campus!! That's an absurd rate. My thoughts were just get guys on campus and then there's not much more you can do if they don't like it because ND is not for everyone. The problem with this is I didn't actually think of the 19 guys they got on campus that they'd have so many guys cool on ND or just pick somewhere else. At a certain point, recruiting is a results oriented business and Jeff Quinn hasn't closed on a lot of guys. Paris Johnson Jr was an OSU lean from the start but you have the prime opportunity of a rough offseason and a coaching change to try and get him. You've got 5 other dudes who can drive to campus from their houses in Trey Wedig (If he did leave the state for UGA or Tennessee then it'd be sad for ND not to be that out of state team). Michael Carmody was presented as a Plan B, recruited as a plan b, and offered as a plan b. Bryn Tucker, ND was in his top 5 along with Walker Parks and had them both on campus and then Clemson came in and snagged em with one visit. Skoronski is a brutal L to Northwestern and we'll never know how much the staff recruited him in terms of their effort, but if it was less than 100% like was rumored then it's an opportunity lost cause he's a stud. This was supposed to be a silly good class for ND and yes they may get a future 1st round pick in Tosh Baker, but I don't think anybody would've thought ND would go from potentially 2 back to back dominant OLine classes to one amazing one and a solid one. This class puts pressure on the 2021 class to be great in size and talent. I'm confident Jeff Quinn will get it done though.

Disagree. His HS is down the street from me... very good lacrosse, but they aren't great in one of the lower divisions of Virginia football. Didn't here anything special when I asked around... yeah, everyone agreed he's talented + good head on his shoulders but no one was like "he is going to be a top 10 pick in 4 years." Generally, local coaches over hype guys, but no one was treating him like some sort of "must get" prospect.
But we'll see in four years whether it was the industry analysts and HS coaches that were wrong, or whether it was college coaches because his reported offer list is huge and full of blue bloods.

Yea the guys who have 15-25 offers is kind of a crap shoot when it comes to judging talent off of that because you have to look more in depth to who those offers are, but a dude who has 40+ FBS offers including Oklahoma, Clemson, ND, and Stanford is incredibly impressive. Oh, and guys who get tons of big time offers and tons of offers in general are usually brought up in the rankings of recruiting btw. Christ was a surefire 3 star and now he's at a 4 star on Rivals and ESPN and may get a bump eventually on 247 if they ever reevaluate his profile. Lovie Jenkins is one where the offers are extremely different because I think he lists something like 40 offers or more, but something like 15 offers are FCS schools and he's got tons of low d1 offers. He's got Pitt, Vandy, Louisville, Minnesota, Duke, ND, Syracuse, UVA, West VA, NC St, Rutgers, Tenn, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Mizzou, Purdue, Miami. In terms of top 25-30 power 5 programs in clout, there's maybe 3-4 big offers in there. He's good, don't get me wrong, but Christ's offer list trumps whatever the recruiting rankings think because almost every big time program in the country wants him.

Quinn closed Baker. If your class is 2 or 3 that''s an excellent haul being that the only talent hole was a Tosh Baker level LT.
I'm 99% sure he had Pyne, Skoronski & Zinter closed, he instead passed late and they "CHOSE" BC, NW & Mich over ND.
He couldn't close Paris Johnson, Turner Corcoran & Jimmy Christ and Christ is the only one we can know he went all in on. Like you mentioned Parks & Tucker to Clemson as a getting snagged, all but sure his top level attention was elsewhere when Clemson got them.
Looking back, had he put Corcoran, Christ & Carmody in the same tier with Baker and pushed Pyne out of that tier sooner, he may have had Carmody? But no one knows what Carmody is thinking. We know what his parents are thinking however and that alleast sounds good.
2021 will be just fine and this class doesn't put any pressure on it. Tosh is the ultimate stress releiver paired with anyone.
