As the OSU series has been announced, I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about the topic of the trend of 2 games series we have seen recently. Off the top of my head, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, OSU.

I like the marquee matchups which I know some don't but I am not sure about the "quickness' of the series'. I would have loved to keep OKL on the schedule a few more years.

What do you guys think about the 2 game series'?

Would want a series like the Texas one, to be longer as we can recruit from there. I do like the fact that we get to be a national school and keep going around the country to the hot spots.

I want a series with Vandy, Memphis, Idaho etc...

I have been dreaming of a series with: Eastern Michigan, Hofstra, Central Midwestern Pawtucket State, Carnegie Mellon.......

You know what I found funny. Neither head coach will be at their respective school when these games come around.

At the same time, I realized my son would be 2-3 years away from being able to play in the game.

It's not like 2 games series are a new trend really. We had that one against Tennessee in I think 04 and 05. Home and homes are just an easy way to schedule.

Def been going on in college football for years. I remember the home and home we had with LSU back in the days.

Yes, Notre Dame won both games.

However, it seems to have changed its angle a little imo. Much more focus on marketing marquee matchups in big markets and/or recruiting hot beds.

Are you saying we have been scheduling these big time 2 game series and I have just been missing them?! Haha

Finally found the light. Not trying to be a dick...

By '16 or '17 they will expand to an 8 team playoff... By the time they play OSU, it could be 16. Good loses won't matter as much. That being said, I'd like to see them develop and maintain a rotation of series with the following schools. Vandy, Rice, Tulane and SMU with road games played at each city's NFL stadium. That way the "Stadium Series" has the Irish in the recruiting hot spots against like minded schools... Playing in NFL stadiums. You vet some historically cupcake games but do t get bagged on like playing a MAC or FCS school.... Its a win win win.

If the want to play Northwestern... It should only be in this or the Shamrock Series a be played at Soldier Field.

My favorite thing about ND scheduling is the constantly changing list of opponents. No other school roams from coast to coast, guaranteeing a full stadium everywhere.
I like the 2 game series with different big time teams.
Shamrock games in major recruiting areas against teams from near those markets would enable scheduling single games.

I think the home and home is the way to go.

I think the Irish base their scheduling, in large part, on geographic and exposure considerations. That's why Ohio State for Michigan makes sense: Ohio is a much better recruiting venue than Michigan and much better program, at least in the sense as more consistently good.

This desire for greater regional exposure is behind the Shamrock Series (games in DC, Texas, etc.), the affiliation with the ACC (greater exposure in the South), Georgia (same), So Cal and Stanford being alternated on the West Coast every year.

Should ND get hooked into longer series than a home and home, then they have much less flexibility/opportunity to fill out their regional exposure desires, since they're locked into Navy, Stanford, So Cal, and 5 ACC teams. Doesn't leave them much room to add a U Texas as a steady opponent (concerns about a top heavy schedule affecting National Title chances, aside).

And they still like to play longtime occasional rivals like BC, Pitt, Michigan St., Purdue and Army, too. Just not enough openings and not enough flexibility.

Sherm livin' up to his "Prophet" title here lol.
BK even alluded to this when the series was created, like neither coach may not be there once they get to '22. How funny that it came true, for different reasons in each case. Meyer got forced out basically, and Kelly bailed. Gotta wonder if this '22 schedule had anything to do with BK's decision too. I remembered a few years ago thinking "Looks like BK is going to coach the Buckeye games after all." Nope.

Honestly I was thinking about BK's comments to start, how he said back then that "We'll see if any of us are still coaching by the time that game rolls around." I'm paraphrasing a bit, but you get the gist. I was searching for a thread on the OSU series and this one came up lol. Like I said, a few years ago I thought BK was a lifer and was going to make it to the game after all.
