A few explanations about my depth chart.
-I have Duval Kamara starting cause we need at least one tall physical receiver. Kamara is also a great blocker and has very good hands. I think Golden should start because we need a home run hitter like him on the field, his speed and shiftiness compliments Kamara’s size and strength. I think Grimes and West would be better off as the third receiver, Grimes already showed last year he is good in that role. And I see Parris backing Kamara and being used as our possession receiver.
-As for Tight End, I definitely see Ragone starting. Remember when Ragone in the weight room and with the others in the football team, Yeatman will be playing Lacrosse. You have to remember Ragone is a tall kid who should be about 250 his Sophomore year. He’s very fast, has good hands, and will give defenses fits. He’s a much bigger weapon and threat then Yeatmen. His blocking is also underrated, this kid is just explosive. Yeatmen will be a great back up though.
-Running back we have a choice between 3 studs. All will see plenty of touches, so it doesn’t matter who starts.
-As much as I like Schwapp, he needs to be demoted to second string. He constantly misses on blocks, drops every pass to him, and I don’t think he’s gotten a single positive yard running the ball. I think some people will just pencil Schwapp in cause the don’t pay much attention to the fullback position or don’t think its as important, but trust me it can be a very important position. Just look at what USC is doing with their fullback Havili, I think he has more yards and TD’s then any other back on USC! Adding another weapon in the back field will force defenses to take their attention away from the other weapons on the field. Luke Schmidt is a weapon, big enough to create huge blocking lanes, yet fast enough to be a dangerous runner and receiver.
-I think we’re all on the same page that anyone is better then Duncan, as long as its not Duncan its an upgrade. But at left tackle I like Young because of his experience, and I like Romine at right tackle cause he played a lot of right tackle in high school and he is very athletic and is fundamentally sound.
-Ditto goes for Turkovich, if he is even second string I will be disappointed. I think Wenger should start at left guard cause after only four starts I see some positive signs, having some experience under his belt should only help next year. Carufel should start at right guard, he’s just much better then Olsen and Turkovich and he almost beat out Wenger for a starting spot this year.
-Yes I think Cave should start at center even though he will be a freshman, he already has the size at 6-4 295, and he already has the strength and quickness. IMO he’s better then any other option at center and truth be told, center position is probably easiest for a Freshman to learn and play straight away.
-Omar Hunter will start! There is not even a doubt in my mind. His size, quickness, and meanness is what’s missing on the defensive line. I can see him taking over for Laws when he graduates on the left defensive end spot. I think Ian Williams will start at nose tackle, he’s got more size then Kuntz and is a better run stuffer. This will allow Kuntz to move to a more natural right defensive end position and also slim back down to around the 275 pound area and regain his quickness. Overall the line would be bigger, faster, and stronger then this years line.
-I think we all agree that Neal and Smith should be starting OLB’s next year. I think Vernaglia has made a huge improvement and John Ryan always gives you 110%, but Vernaglia is some what soft and Ryan gets beat on the outside countless times. Neal and Smith rush the passer better, and are much meaner. We need some mean and angry players, I don’t think I seen a hard hit yet this year.
-Obviously at inside Linebacker Maurice Crum will start, he adds experience and leadership. I think everyone agrees he should start. Toryan Smith adds is a great run stuff and again adds toughness. No more of this vanes shit please!
-At Corner back its obvious that Walls and McNeil should start, Wooden will finally be gone and Lambert needs to be benched.
-At safety Bruton is playing well, he will obviously start. I also think Harrison Smith needs to start, a 6-2 205 pound kid with 4.38 speed and intelligence! This kid needs to start from day one.
-Also if Charlie really wants to run that spread option or Arkansas hog formation I suggest he develop a package with Dan McCarthy as the QB. Just look at his highlight video on scouting Ohio and tell me he doesn't deserve a chance on offense to do some damage.
