This is a fun interview/article from Prister with Justin Tuck.

Why we are talking about replacing Foskey at Vyper when he’s playing Big End. Italics?

JR at one edge and Marist on the either is a frightening visual for opponents

Did we just figure out our edge situation for next year? Is Junior big enough to move there full time?

Foskey was so hard to replace we had to switch to 3-4

At 6’2 240 he’s likely got the size and strength to hold up at the point of attack at Vyper but I don’t think we want him as a primary pass rusher.

In Freeman’s 3 down base at Cincy he had big ILB’s. He liked to bring them up close to the LOS. From a gap assignment, essentially taking the place of a DL. Big strong guys with heavy hands to attack guards. Yet it gives the scheme more flexibility when play against the spread. JR seems like a perfect fit which is why I think he was such a big find for Freeman, even though his rankings heat, cooled over time.

And, in Freeman’s 3 down at Cincy Myjai Sanders was our Foskey. While he was the WDE he played with his hand down quite a bit. So, Foskey as a Vyper is really just an extension of Lea/Elko and less of Freeman. Not surprising to see him put Foskey down as part of the 3 man and bring other defenders to the edge. Which is what made his moves with Foskey last year even more bizarre but that’s already been covered.

So we think he’s helped or hurt his stock so far this year? Certainly looks the part but expected more impact plays.

Arguably the most disappointing player of the season.

He's been non-existent for almost the entire season. Seriously, he's expected to be a leader and a game wrecker and he's been anything but.

I have to wonder if Al Golden and to a smaller extent MF are not putting him in a position that takes advantage of his strengths. Last season he was a game wrecker, this year it seem like he is being used to occupy offensive linemen so others can cleanup.

Positive that could come out of this disappointing season is Foskey May come back for a 5th year.

Yeah he was getting like 1-2 sacks a game last year or at least coming close, you barely notice him during the games

Really hope he stays healthy. Don't see how he doesn't break the record if he does.

Sadly expecting that he will sit out whatever Bowl they may qualify for. And he won’t be alone.

Record! Hopefully someone breaks it sooner than it took to beat Tuck's
Foskey did most of his damage in two years with just 4.5 in his Sophomore season. The biggest problem I see is the NFL is always thirsty for Edge guys. If you're good you're probably not making it out of your Junior year. For someone to break the Sack record it would be ideal to get started in their Freshmen year so they'll have to stick around through Junior season.

You're right about that. Hopefully we see a slew of elite edge rushers

Couldn't have happened to a classier kid and player. Really going to miss his leadership but I can't wait to see him play on Sundays. Should test well at the combine and should be a lock to have his named called int he first round.

Appreciate post forthcoming.

Maybe he plays in the bowl game, maybe he doesn't. But, who would have thought that the guy who blocked a punt against Stanford in his freshman year (which he redshirted), would go onto become ND's all-time sack leader.

Career Stats: 123 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 26.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles
