Forbes Best Colleges In America

At some point, some kids are going to realize these lists aren't lip service and biased. If you actually care about big time academics, an alumni network that spans the entire globe, professors who actually sit in and teach the class, and peers that are intellectually curious and passionate about learning, then the kids will figure out where the hell they should go. As much as I rag on Michigan for being a horrible football program and hating Jim Harbaugh, Michigan is one of the best state schools in the entire country. Florida has shot up the rankings in the last 5 years almost more than any other school too. It is really frustrating when Cadillac SUVs, private jets, glamorous facilities, nice suits, and a nice smile are overriding the important facts. Stick to the facts kids! If you care about academics and don't mind leaving home, you should be suiting up for the Golden Domers or the Wolverines. Not a difficult choice

I wonder what our recruiting strategy is going up against pOSU when they tout internships and "Real Life Wednesday's". pOSU is actively arguing that they are not just equal to ND because of these programs, they are arguing they are better. They are taking what should be our major advantage, and turning it on it's head.

Their Real-Life Wednesday's should be their past players coming in saying they regret committing to OSU because they did it thinking they'd be great enough for the NFL. Turns out they were but only on an NFL practice squad or last 2 years. So they have $800,000 to last them 60 years. Now they're trying to find a job after taking that $800k and buying a $400,000 home. Shoulda went to ND.

Kinda funny to spend the whole year talking about how this kid is different, and then Urban Meyer convinces him to come to Columbus the weekend before NSD, and he chooses the last school he visited 3 days later.

Sounds pretty standard fare.

When was the last time ND got one of these 5 star kids near NSD while competing with a tier one program?

But Quinn!

You guys can't knock Quinn on any of this. He had 12 days to recruit, and he locked up Luke Jones and beat out Florida and Michigan for NPF, and Michigan for Patterson.

We're going to finish 2nd for both, and although that doesn't make a damn bit of difference in who's on the roster next year, Quinn closed the gap on these two, not widened it.

If you don't finish first nothing else matters. Who cares you come in a close second. It means nothing.

It doesn't matter on the roster, but on the question "can Quinn recruit", this last 12 days is all we have.

And the momentum he got ND going with for both NPF and Patterson says "Yes".

Momentum doesn't matter because we aren't landing them. Unless you get them you lose. It shows again even the some smart kids are just lip service like NFP. I don't like the fact he is going to OSU but it is what it is. I hate the fact of blowing smoke about ND and in the long run go against everything he said.

True, but we're talking about two different things. I'm talking about "can Quinn recruit", and you're talking "will NPF/Patterson sign".

This happens every year. It is a very limited number of kids that say academics is a priority and back it up with their decision. The coaches show these kids the rankings, the network, etc., but the reality is strong academics is rarely the number one reason a kid chooses his school.

Not sure why everyone is down. We pretty much knew he was a long shot. If you want something to soften the blow, remember he's being touted more as a project with great athleticism. He may not pan out for all we know. Feel better? lol

If we could draw any type of conclusion from this (NOT THAT WE SHOULD), it would be more so that Hiestand CAN'T recruit, rather than Quinn CAN'T recruit...... one would think

Again, i'm not saying we should all say that, but it would seem there is more evidence to one over the other.

IDK, I hated the hiring of Quinn, but since he was hired:

- We got in on Patterson, who wasn't even sure he would visit ND around mid January, and had a firm top 2 of Michigan and UCLA. We bumped Michigan out, and almost stole him from his home state all together.

- Became the favorite for NPF until this weekend's visit. OSU stole him, but can anyone be surprised with Meyer/OSU getting the final OV? If something happens with that visit, or it gets canceled, NPF likely signs with ND, and you have to give Quinn some credit there IMO.

- Will sign Luke Jones after his father basically said he'll reevaluate things once Harry left.

This sucks, but with what little sample size we have, it looks to me like Quinn made up ground, and certainly didn't lose ground on any of the 3.

He's been quiet this entire recruitment. What if now he decides he wants to troll :) All talk about OSU and see the cockroaches squirming all to come back and pick ND.

...that's when my arm fell out from beneath me and I slammed my face into the keyboard and woke up.
