Former ND Lacrosse commit who's chosen to play football instead. Put up big numbers, 3400 yds and 40TD's.

It goes without saying that the FB staff would have more than half the work done if & when they chose to recruit Mr. Coan.

Has quickly put together a nice little offer list and one thing of note. Ran a 4.20 shuttle on the Sparq testing. Which I read is the fastest QB time yet. Nike's home page shows the all time record as LeSean McCoy running a 4.10.

Is this guy a Lacrosse prodigy IrishLax?

Seemed to be a kid that loved the school... If ND wants him, should be theirs as long as they don't wait forever to offer

He would've been a fantastic player, ND doesn't early recruit as much as other schools in lacrosse and went after him hard as soon as he got on their radar.

ND lacrosse seems to lose a couple guys a year to other sports. The problem is two-fold. For starters, because of Title IX and the way equivalency sports work, there are no full scholarships to go around for lacrosse... so later in high school, if a kid gets the option of going to, say, Northwestern on a full ride for football or still paying a big chunk of change each year to play lacrosse it's hard to turn down the full ride. Second, lacrosse has pro leagues but they're obviously not as viable as other sports. You don't make millions like NBA/NFL/baseball/hockey players. So if you're good enough to play one of those sports, there's a lot of financial upside to going that direction.

ND has for years tried to recruit the best athletes... guys that play multiple sports at a high level, don't specialize in lacrosse, but have potential to be great lacrosse players. That's how ND started competing with blue bloods. Now and days we get some 2:s: low-end FBS caliber guys like Sergio Perkovic or Nick Ossello that stick with lacrosse... or before them, guys like Yeatman that were allowed to play both. But when guys like Sam Hubbard or Jack Coan start to "blow up" it's very reasonable for them to opt for football. On top of that, you have guys like Dalton MacAfee (son of the legendary Ken MacAfee) who was a top 5 lacrosse recruit committed to Notre Dame that decided at the last minute to stay home and play hockey for BU. He had a good freshman year and then left the team... I have no idea where he is now. Working towards the NHL? It's hard for guys with options to decide which one (or both) they want to pursue in college and beyond. Few (like the Shark and Pat) get it right.

Thanks for the 411 Lax. The MacAfee story has been a crazy one to follow. Talk about having cool options! I did read that he has a year of junior hockey left so that's probably where he's headed. If he wasn't and he was going back to lax, you would have heard that.

Thanks again!

This guy is local to me on Lawn Guyland, I'm going to have to check him out. He literally blew up out of nowhere. I think Miami was the offer that started everything rolling here. I know a couple of guys that coached against him in Lacrosse that said he was more potential than polished at this point but obviously a big, gifted athlete. I'll do some homework and find out some more, I know a lot of people in that area. He's from one of those towns out here that's a mix of blue collar families and south of montauk highway closer to the water some more upper middle class areas. Like Lax said, it's kind of hard to pass up a full football ride to a Football school than get a piece of the 12.6 scholarships for a whole fully funded lacrosse program.

Had a great season, just lit it up in Long Island championship game. Kid is the real deal. Not sure there's any interest here, but already was committed for lacrosse. Getting rave reviews and really blowing up around here.

Kid got wooped by my Oceanside High School Sailors this year. This is the most local recruit I've seen on this site for me.

Sayville was 12-0 Golden, O'Side didn't woop up on them! Oceanside got KO'd by farmingdale in Nassau playoffs. This kid rushed and passed for over 200 each in LIC game vs Plainedge.
I didn't know you were a fellow LID! I lived in long beach for 10 years. I knew I liked you.

Hearing that he is waiting for a Stanford offer. Serious academic kid, hence his early Irish commitment for Lax. Wondering if he's someone the football program becomes interested in down the line here.

I was looking at Coan’s stats the other day and was surprised at his lack of rushing given that he was a lacrosse commit. Did he play goalie or something? Trying to figure out how someone good enough to play lacrosse at ND has the stats of a statue QB. I know Wisconsin doesn’t run their QBs much but still I have a tough time seeing a fit for a non mobile QB.

Someone wrote an article about how he was used a game manager in his season as starter because of the run game.

He was a really athletic midfielder, he probably has comparable athletic ability to Ian Book. No clue why he didn’t run at Wisconsin.

I don't know that Wisconsin has designed running plays for their QBs, do they?

In the Link I posted, he makes a couple nice dashes. Has some long strides. I am a fan and was at his time in Wisco. I would make a big time run at this guy.

Since I don't have any idea how realistic Jack Sears is, I think this would be a very quality option. However, if I got to choose, I'd go with Sears.

I really think we should kick the tires on Dustin Crum if he doesn't declare for the NFL draft. He is a very competent QB who would be a one year rental.

I'm also totally fine with a "rebuilding year" if the coaches think Buchner is good enough in spring ball to start.

Curious as to why you would go with Sears? Guy was beat out at 2 different schools, one (maybe both?) being by true Frosh. One was a Group of 5 school.

Being honest, I know literally nothing of Sears other then what I posted here, so it is a legit question for you Lucky.

That being said, I am totally on board with Coan if we could/can land him.
