I was actually surprised when I saw this knowing most first round prospects don’t participate in the senior bowl. Looking at the 2020 NFL draft, 7 OL went in the first round and 2 went in the second round. None of which participated in the senior bowl. The highest selections from the senior bowl roster were Damien Lewis from LSU and Josh Jones from Houston going in the 3rd round at 69th and 72nd overall respectively.

Eichenberg has a chance to scare the end of the first round, but Sewell, Davis, Cosmi, Leatherwood, Little, Smith, Mayfield, and Carman have been listed ahead of him on plenty of mock drafts and big boards. Even if he is the 8th or 9th OL prospect off the board, he should be in the 2nd round. Still didn’t think he would need to or want to go to Mobile.

Sure. Not saying it couldn’t help. He is doing it for just that reason, to raise his profile. I get it. Still surprising. Of the top 8 guys I listed, 6-7 won’t play in normal years. Maybe all bets are off with Covid and everyone goes.

No I completely understand. I actually can't think of a high profile guy who went to the Senior Bowl after that. At that point, both Z Mart and Donald were considered "good" prospects but not top 15 locks.

Yeah I’m hopeful Eichenberg can continue the starting ND LT to 1st round draft pick Martin started in 2014. Maybe playing in the senior bowl is the best way to get there this year. Honestly, his tape against Clemson, Pitt, Duke, and whoever we play in the bowl/playoff should be enough (if it’s good) but I digress.

I remember that he filled in at C for a few games last season. He’s going into Year 4. Make or break. Either he proves he’s a capable starter and will be paid as such, or he’s a rotational back-up guy who will be paid accordingly.

Wish that I was surprised. Big fan as all here know of all our bigguns, but always recognized that Eichenberg was our slowest developer (because, I believe, he just had the slowest recognition of what was going on.) Hope that he catches on elsewhere even as a sub, and continues to get a paycheck. OLinemen are precious, so he probably will.
