the problem people is it was mentioned he was SET ON PLAYING WR

Just bring in him (IF they think he is as good as the services do), and worry about positions later. Claypool is not set in stone at WR, so that could open up room. And they've switched guys around a lot, successfully (Bennett Jackson, Russell, Procise, etc etc etc), so bring in the athletes and worry about positions later, as some of these guys can play multiple positions.

Right. Your first post today was "if his heart is set at WR he may get left out". I understand that. It just doesn't make sense to me how we're his #1 if we're slow playing him or have him lower on our board when I'm sure there are dozens of other schools who would be (or are) knocking down his door to play for them with a guarantee to play WR.

Maybe he just loves ND that much like we all do? I don't know. Just seems weird to me that an elite level talent has us as his #1 when we aren't really putting the full press on at all.

And it seems like we have McKinley as our only true WR higher on our board. Every other guy is an athlete or someone who can play multiple positions. Claypool seems like someone who could play TE or flex TE to me...or of course could get switched to defense. Alloway is more of an APB. And then we already have Stepherson committed, who I really like.

I get that we have a numbers crunch but it seems like Callaway is one of those guys who is a "take no matter what" according to everyone (analysts, reporters, scouts, services, etc.) except our staff. Just frustrating to a fan like me but I know the staff knows what they're doing. They've pulled in some great, under the radar kids and landed some legit stars so I'll let this all play out without getting too worked up about it. I'm just confused more than anything.

And as always...thanks for all the extra info and tidbits you bring to the site Panda. Not trying to get on you at all.

im not saying don't bring him in, just reporting info on paid sites why he could get left out...claypool is rumored to wanting to play offense according to the latest info out there which bodes well for ND as well..oregon is recruiting him for def and rutgers are recruiting him on offense.

^This. Bring all three of them in and sort it out later. Callaway is a superb athlete.

Certainly his highlights does not look impressive, despite his offer list. Yet he has good traits to work with and would one of the best commits of this class.

The way Ara did it. Get the athletes then find a place for them on the field.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football, Basketball, and Recruiting Front Page

The 6-foot-2 ½, 230-pound athlete will play wide receiver and cornerback as well as return punts and kicks this season. He named five schools in contact the most.
“Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, Mississippi State, and South Carolina,” Callaway said.
Callaway is being recruited to play wide receiver at Notre Dame, but his skillset could allow for the position switch to defense in the future.
“I probably talk with coach (Scott) Booker once every couple of weeks,” Callaway said. “I like how he keeps it real with me. He wants me to come back for a game this season.”
Callaway took his first visit to Notre Dame for the Irish Invasion in June after hearing positive things about the program from Booker.
“Everything about Notre Dame was just very nice and it passed my expectations,” Callaway said. “The people were all very nice too and it was a beautiful place to be.”

“I am going to base my decision a lot on how a team carries their teammates and how they pick each other up when something goes wrong,” Callaway said.
Conversely, win-loss records this season won’t factor largely into his decision.
“I’ll look into it, but I’m not going to think about it too much,” Callaway said. “Every year a team can’t have a great year. Sometimes it’s their year, and sometimes it’s not.”

OP says 6' 2" 170 lbs, recent article says 6' 2 1/2" 230 lbs. That's quite a disparity.

Army Bowl a family affair for Marquez Callaway

There's some photos and video too:

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- Having scored over 20 points per game the past two seasons, leading the Demons to the AAAAA state championship and quarterfinals the last two seasons, it is easy to see the ability on the hardwood for Marquez Callaway (Warner Robins, Ga./Warner Robins). The Region 2-AAAAA Player of the Year and two-time all-state selection is an explosive scorer.

But while his ability in basketball is impressive, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete knows his skillset is tougher to find on the gridiron.

"I think he is a better basketball player," said Maureen Callaway, Marquez's mom. "I am not encouraging both. Hopefully he will focus on football - he has already said that he will play football in college."

Considered the No. 12 prospect in Georgia, No. 7 athlete in the country and No. 107 overall in the 2016 class by the 247Sports Composite, Callaway has done a little of everything on the football field this season, with eight carries for 183 yards and a touchdown, 26 receptions for 405 yards and five touchdowns, 19 tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions on defense, one which he returned for a touchdown, and four punt returns for 64 yards, and three kickoff returns for 67 yards in seven games.

When the invite came to be part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the decision was easy.

"We are a military family with members in every branch other than Coast Guard, his mom and me, her dad, my dad, we all served time in the Armed Forces," Antonio Callaway, Marquez's father. With both of us being Army veterans, and Marquez's brother Michael Callaway being deployed in Korea now at Camp Humphreys, this event is special to us because the Army teaches responsibility. It is so nice to see him do something for the people that serve.

On Tuesday, in front of his teammates, coaches, teachers and family, Callaway was presented with his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey, as part of the U.S. Army All-American Selection Tour, presented by American Family Insurance.

Callaway will participate in the 16th edition of the game, which takes place in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Alamodome, broadcast live on NBC at 1 p.m. ET. To date, 299 Army All-Americans have been selected in the NFL draft, including Andrew Luck, Jamaal Charles, Patrick Peterson, Adrian Peterson, Odell Beckham Jr., Eric Berry, Tim Tebow, Joe Thomas, Tyron Smith, C.J. Mosley, and DeMarco Murray.

"It is such a great honor to be a part of this game, just to be able to give back to them and honor their service to us means the world to me," Callaway said.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Callaway lists no leaders. He has been to games at Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee this fall.

"I would say Notre Dame, Tennessee, South Carolina and Mississippi State are recruiting me the hardest," Callaway said.

The Volunteers are selling an opportunity to see the field in 2016.

"They are saying I would have to step right in and play since they have guys graduating," Callaway said. "I just want to get out there and play."

Ole Miss and Miami are two programs Callaway would also like to take official visits.

Callaway says a January or signing day decision is likely on tap. If he were to announce right now, the Top247 athlete says only one hat is guaranteed to be on the table.

"Notre Dame," Callaway said. "I do not know of any others at this time."

The Irish have impressed the Peach State native with how well they set their student-athletes up for success during and after their playing days are over.

"I know I will get a degree that will provide me with a good job, but most importantly I love how well they take care of their players," Callaway said.

With the recent news of guys like McKinley, Stovall, and Alloway looking less likely than a few months ago. I really like this development.

Yeah, he would be a great addition to the class. I would have wanted with or without the afore mentioned prospects.

Tell me our coaches are visiting him this week. Didn't see anything about that.

So this kid could be the speedy FS we struggle so much to land, or the best slot prospect for 2016 we've recruited thus far. I assume we're all over him if he has us #1. We had better be.

Unfortuantely, this exactly.

I never thought Callaway was anything more than a pipe dream but that might be my favorite interview snippet ever... McCullough's from yesterday didn't last long at #1, did it? lol

I LOVE that his entire family is military. They understand and expect discipline which ND demands of it's student-athletes.

This is the great news I needed today to offset the horrible news I got earlier.

either he has now changed his stance on not playing wr in college or ND isn't feeling too good anymore w/ Javon....i don't see how alloway/stovall or macintosh impact him as they are slot/small rb......idk he seemed to be all Vol lately so i am just really floored at this statement...we must have REALLY PICKED UP his recruitment

I'm going with both. Just my guess.

I've wanted this kid from day one. I'm glad it may be finally working out.

So he considers ND the only hat he would def have on the table now, but hes been to games at UT, S Carolina, and UGA and would still like to see Ole miss and Miami? No plans to official here?

I asked Anna about Callaway (she has talked to him recently). She doesn't believe any coach was stopping to see him and that in the end he will end up in the SEC.
