While he says he has no leaders whatsoever at the moment, Carter did indicate that Georgia, Florida, Miami (Fla), Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, South Carolina are recruiting him the hardest right now.

Right now Carter feels he will probably decide on signing day.

Last week, we played in the state basketball semifinals. It was a crazy game. It was tough. They had some real high-caliber players. I think I had 10 points. We had to really lock down at the end, and we did (Norcross defeated North Cobb 59-54). I think I missed four throws, though. I was really tired and dehydrated.

The night before, I was in the hospital for dehydration. I was sick for like the past week. Then we played Wednesday and I was dehydrated from that. I didn't practice the next day, so I went to see the team doctor. They couldn't find my veins at first, so I had to go to another building.

I was getting a little worried because I knew I had to get more fluid. For me, not playing Saturday wasn't an option. I was going to play. But my parents -- I'm sure they wouldn't have let me play if they thought I was too sick.

That night I slept with an IV in my arm. I had to keep it in part of the next day, and I got two more bags of fluid.

I guess I started feeling normal Saturday around 3 p.m. That's when I got to school for our walkthrough.


Basketball is Carter's first love. But he will play football in college.

At the game, the atmosphere was great. I think it helped me a lot that I played for a championship last year. When we played in the final four [in 2012) it was in Macon. I hadn't gotten to play in an arena before then. This year, the place was crazy. Coming from 1A [Carter played at Whitefield Academy as a sophomore] and this was 6A -- it was packed. This Saturday is the state championship and I'm really excited.

That's the most important thing right now. Nothing else matters.

Last week, I talked to [Alabama football coach] Nick Saban and [LSU coach] Les Miles. On Friday, I talked to [Georgia assistant] Bryan McClendon. Even though I've been focused on basketball, the football coaches have been great with it.

A lot of coaches have been talking to me mainly about basketball since they know we're deep into it. They know I can't do anything until we're done with basketball.

I've been playing basketball my whole life. I always had a basketball in my hand. I was born in Evansville, Ind., but we moved to the Atlanta area a long time ago. I don't remember much about Evansville. We also lived in Memphis. My dad is from Chicago. My mom is from Memphis. They both played high school basketball. My dad was better but my mom thinks she was good. My dad also played in college at LeMoyne-Owen.

I began playing football about five or six years ago. Basketball was my sport but I was good at football. I played recreation league basketball. One year our coach was like, 'Ya'll need to play football to get tough.' I already was tough, but I played anyway. The hardest part at first was learning how to actually play the right way.

I think I remember my first little league game. I got three penalties for clipping. I didn't understand. I was like, "Why am I getting in trouble for this?" I wanted to get better.

I still love basketball. I could play in the high-majors if I wanted to. I heard from Alabama and Georgia for basketball. But in basketball, I'm a dime a dozen. In football, when will you find another 6-6 freakish defensive end? I think my future is in football. That's the only sport I'm going to play in college.


Carter has been a key player for his basketball team, which plays for a state title Saturday. Here's a dunk from earlier in the season.

My GPA is in the 3's. My parents are really on top of me. My mom [Lisa] is an accountant. My dad [Leo] is a driver for the V.A. They threaten to take my phone away all the time to keep me from talking to coaches and stuff. My friends say they're harder on me than most parents are on their kids. Right now, they're trying to keep me at straight-A's this year. That's our goal.

This week, I'm focused on basketball, but that will change on March 10. That's the day after the state basketball championship. I may want to take a week off. You know, just take some time off to get my body right. I need a break from everything. I've been so busy. After that, I'll get back into football.

On March 16, I'm visiting Alabama.

Pretty good read. I assume he left Whitefield for the exposure from bigger schools, but academically whitefield fits with ND. This kid is gonna be a monster.

No worries. I know rivals has been doing a lot of interviews this weekend from some of the camps they put on and wanted to try and catch the relevant ones. Thanks for the heads up.

gotta think the staff will be very picky down the stretch at the SDE position with guys like Hayes and Trumbetti already committed, with Trumbetti having the ability to play SDE or Cat....personally I prefer him at SDE, but that would give us 3 at that position should we be lucky enough to land Carter

Listening to him express himself, his demeanor, his character, he reminds me of so many kids already on this team. I think if we get him on campus and he has a chance to interact with the team, he will have a new leader and we will be in it up to the end.

In top 5 supposedly, but I feel he will be a tough pull from the south. He has said he will visit so hopefully we will get a legit chance but I wouldnt say we are top 3 right now.
