I like this pick up for several reasons. A) Corey could be a very good WR in his own right (he's just started getting serious about football). B) The staff can still go after other big time WR's out there because 1. I doubt Corey will be expected and counted on to step in right away and be a big time contributor and 2. Corey could be thought of as second TE option for this class (go out and still land the big time TE prospect...and Corey will be able to contribute at TE in a few years once his body is ready) and C) Despite what Corey ever does or doesn't do on the game field at ND-- he'll be hard working, put the team first, and studious at both his jobs at ND (student AND athlete). So even if he doesn't pan out as a great player (and I think he can be a real player, mind you), he'll still be a locker room champion and a "glue" guy that every championship level team needs.

I'm not seeing any possible decommits either with this group.

Do you have some sort of formula for determining likelihood of decommitting? Mine is that I take the top 3 players committed and give them all 50/50 chance, lol. Beat that!

I use hindsight. I wake up the day after signing day and check the list. I am never wrong.

If you go to yahoo.com and let the top stories scroll a little you will see they have a link to the irish illustrated article up about Corey picking Irish. The press alone from this decision is amazing.

Corey's commitment, along with Niklas' move to TE, make me wonder if Kelly plans on creating two distinct TE positions-- monster in-line blockers and tall rangy pass catchers. Some other programs already do this.

If we end up using a lot of 2-TE sets in 2012, it might justify carrying 5-6 TEs on the roster instead of 4.

What college teams do this? Not arguing, I just honestly don't know of many that use multiple TE sets (besides Stanford). I know multiple TE's are a staple of pro offenses though.

I was thinking about the whole 6'4-6'7 2 athletic hybrid TE/WR sets we could be using. Kelly clearly plans on installing a no huddle offense eventually, so a lineup of 1RB/slot WR 2 hybrid TE and 2WR could be impossible to stop.

play 1: both TEs on the line, power running attack

no huddle, no subs
play 2: spread both TEs out, drop into shotgun, and have your TEs attack the slower LBs or shorter DBs attempting to cover them in the slot

no huddle, no subs
play 3: leave one TE split out, bring the other back onto the line. run or pass? then move the RB/slot reciever into motion and attack with an empty backfield

this offense has some crazy potential

But yes, I like this concept.
