Putting that UVA game on Malik is like saying Kizer is responsible for the 4-8 season we just had. Yeah, a QB is the most important position on a team, but so many other factors went into the first half of that game. As a team we stunk it up offensively, and we didn't game plan well for the Tenuta blitzes.

Just giving my opinion, on a kid, and his tough situation. Sad we can't all perfectly seize every opportunity we have. I think he handled it well, and with class and wish him well. I also think we are all basing our opinions of our experiences, some may have info. on how it really was behind the scenes, I don't and am ok w/ that.

The kid who played against Texas/LSU last year, is closer to what he really is in my opinion than anything else we saw. He had time to prepare as the starter those weeks and played well. Everything else was "oh, sh!t, lets try something, get in there Malik!" Which is a tough scenario. I'm not calling for him to win the Heisman next year, I just think he as the tools to be very successful. I could be wrong, it's happened a time or two.

7/18 115 yards 1TD 62 QPR (59 yards on a pass to Fuller)
10 for 87 rushing (long of 39)
it was 19-14 ND winning when he went out (26-14 Next play)

MK was stinking it up... The whole offense was for most of the game, but I would not take that performance over EG's... I wouldn't want either to be honest, but hell if we had a defense at all, EG doesn't have to throw that second pick 6...

the second pick 6 he says...

Thanks for proving my point.

When someone is "stinking it up" / having an off day passing / not getting any help from his teammates or play calling... and still does more to win the game, than to lose the game. There's nothing wrong with that.

Score was 26-14 at the end of 3, all on drives MZ engineered.

How many dropped passes were there?

How many TO's did he have?

How many missed FG's were there?

In 9 offensive series, how many times was ND in FG territory? I'll answer, 7.

I won't even bring up Kelly's play calling on 3 of the first 4 drives. Oops, I did.

Nor will i mention BVG and his squad that day. Oops, did it again.

So MZ had two punts in 9 drives. Lays egg, stunk it up.

DK had 2 punts in 3 drives. Forever remembered as the guy who bailed MZ out. When he really bailed himself and BVG/defense out.

Now regarding EG @ ASU, if you want a 5 TO game that created an L vs a Winnin' Ugly W. Please save that for your pro teams (assuming you're not from Chicago).

You don't have to put the entire game on Malik to realize that the passing game was very poor on that day, and others. Below 40% comp, is downright awful. It also wasn't the only time that he was below 45%. His entire game wasn't terrible, but he certainly wasn't efficient throwing the ball, and even into this season, we see that it is still an issue.

On the bolded, just like we place some of the ASU game on Golson. Some of the UVA game should be placed on Zaire.

QB has the ability to make checks at the LOS. If Zaire didn't like the look, then he could've changed it. The problem is, Zaire
really never developed that part of the game, like Kelly and staff thought he would. Again, even into this season, hence the Texas game. Zaire didn't do a good job of recognizing what the defense was doing and getting into the right play.

Yeah, certainly some of the UVA game is on Zaire's shoulders, but to blame it entirely on him isn't right imo.

Sampson thought Wisconsin earlier. Baylor reached out today so that may change

I think he'd kill it in Auburn's system. But that ship has sailed with their signing of Stidham.

This has gotta be the most pathetic thing ive read on here. Lets blame the backup quarterback for all our problems. You think athletes that want to play at the next level are going to play poorly because of MZ? Kizer wasnt a leader, he didnt even know if he wanted to play football and has gone on record saying that. But im not putting it on him. Its on the coaching staff. I hope to see MZ do well just as i hope to see kizer do well in the nfl.

I kinda think he decided on playing football. Going to be drafted 1st or 2nd round proves that. He stated he wasn't sure what sport he wanted to play before even committed to us. Thanks for supplying 3 yr old info.

Of course he decided that. We all know he was struggling early on when he was burried on the depth chart about football vs baseball (I think, maybe basketball, but I think baseball). Anyway, he made the decision to focus on football sometime early on -- definitely before the 2015 season at a minimum -- in high school he wasn't focused on it, and once he got to ND and was buried he debated whether it was the right choice, but he was definitely focused on football early on. But let's not the let the facts get in the way of a juicy narrative... Amirite irisheyes?

I think Malik is waiting to get the official declaration from Trubisky on whether he's going in the draft. No sense in going to UNC and sitting another year if Mitch is coming back for another go.

Apparently the dead period applies to grad transfers shopping for teams and vice versa.

I asked if LSU might be interested in Malik now that ex-Pitt OC Matt Canada is in Baton Rouge but they would have the same problem as Rhule has with the dead period.

The NCAA should modify that rule so that players can reach out to other teams and then (and only then) the teams can respond.

You're tiptoeing into harassment here. Keep in mind it's also against the rules to post rumors without explicitly stating them as such (Going back to the locker room discussion yesterday)

What is considered attacking other posters?

*Bringing up their name in posts that they did not start or were not
involved in, just to get a reaction from them.
....
* In short, making a poster a target.

4. Do not post unsubstantiated rumors about players, coaches, without implicitly expressive that it is only a rumor.

Isn't 4/5 of what this board talks about technically a rumor? No need to be irisheye's champion here. If the shoe fits...

Like it or not, a lot of people have used Zaire as a scapegoat in circumstances this season. Several people said the Texas game was on Zaire's shoulders, which was absolutely ridiculous when you consider he took only 2 short drives away from Kizer and one long drive that was killed by an OL penalty. There were people that railroaded Malik after the Virginia Tech game too, when he came in for one play and ran what he was given (Even if they should have called for the spike) and the game was basically over to begin with. Malik didn't lose that game, we lost that game as a team long before he stepped in for Kizer.

At the end of the day he's graduating and making a smart move for his career, and leaving in a classy way. He's dotted all the i's here. He arguably helped provide us with the biggest bowl win (Or at least a win against the most respectable opponent) since Lou was head coach. Nobody cares about the Hawaii, Miami, and Rutgers bowl wins really, other than the Hawaii one finally ended the losing streak. The Miami one should have been decent, but the Hurricanes have been dominated by us in the last three meetings, even this year in a 4-8 season.

I agree. Many of us tend to over-hype kids when they come into the program and if they don't win the Heisman, aren't AA or don't have several game wining plays, we consider them flops. MZ couldn't control getting injured and he wasn't responsible for how BK handled the QB position. I hope he goes some place and tears it up.

Not sure if this is a lead or not but MZ just started following a lot of U. Of Florida players on his social media pages. SIAP - but was there a third team named in the running? I already know about UNC/WISC.

as far as i know UF is prevented from taking in grad transfers because previous ones they took never graduated with their graduate degrees.

Wasn't he supposed to pick a school by now?

See 4 posts before your's. He was supposed to make a decision on Dec 20th but didn't.
The article linked notes:

No timetable was set on Zaire’s decision.

According to uninformed sources, perhaps Zaire is hoping for a visit to South Bend.
