'11 SC QB Everett Golson (FSU transfer)

For the record, count me among those who is very skeptical that the SEC rule cited above will keep Golson away from those schools.

As am I, Whiskey. In fact, I am awfully skeptical of this series of articles. Some facts just don't wash; not limited to the fact as Keith insisted that "Golson threw Fuller the 60 yarder in the Spring Game." There is so much shoddiness in the reporting of this series of events; I assume because it caught everyone by surprise, and everyone had to hurry to get a word in. That slip, Freudian or otherwise, by Arnold is a great frame for this conversation.

I bet Mike Sanford was sold on Malik and told Kelly why. Since Kelly is under orders to make changes to the way he is doing things, Kelly's reported QB bromance got the boot!

Just a gut feeling. But someone I spoke with two years ago pointed out that Zaire had it, and he was right.

My feelings on the situation was that Kelly said that they would be sharing the load and that's what drove Golson's decision. It would absolutely make no sense for Golson to transfer if Kelly told him he'd be the guy, but that doesn't mean that Kelly told him that Zaire was the guy. If the competition was to remain open going into the summer, it would be in Golson's best interest to go elsewhere...I believe that this adds 1 or possibly 2 losses to the season next year. I would have full confidence in either Zaire or Golson coming on to save the day if one of them was having an off game. Now, with DK and BW being unproven commodities, I'm not so confident that if/when Zaire struggles or (god forbid) gets hurt, that we'll have a guy that can come in save the day.

I am telling you that you don't have an adequate sized sample of data.

My guess is that he made his mind up after Kelly made it clear to him and Zaire that Zaire would be the starter.

Nope.

I believe this to be most fans' trepidation with the situation.

1,000 times this.

Georgia or South Carolina for EG??

This year GA (tougher games) plays at home vs. South Carolina, Alabama, Missouri, Florida and on the road against Tennessee, Auburn, and Georgia Tech.

If I am Everett and I want a chance in the NFL go play for a MAC team...yes a MAC team!! He would be an ultimate highlight reel and own the field.

Lastly...this is Everett's best turnover yet...he basically has handed the ball over to Malik.

I am excited for Malik's time to shine.

Someone told me today that the biggest thing for Golson was changes planned in the offense this coming season. Don't know if it is true; but it does make sense that if ND is going to show more power running, EG would most likely want to give it a go elsewhere!

If he's truly considering South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia, that reasoning wouldn't hold much weight haha.

WTF?!?! I left for Mexico two years ago to come back and find out EG was off the team. Just got back today from Punta Cana to read this shit. Can't leave the damn country without EG being off the team.

ill just laugh if he chooses Spurrier. someone should clue him in that ball coach will yank his ass quicker then fast. i cant recall spurrier even with a black qb, and dont feel like googling.

Jimbo must not be interested, it simply makes to much sense for him to go to fsu.

Golson shouldn't have lost to FSU, Northwestern or Louisville. If he'd "won" those games instead of "losing" them (turnovers...) this would be a different story. But he continued to put the ball on the ground. Stanford we probably should/could have lost as well.

Gave up in the Coliseum...nasty fu-king gross and I don't/won't forget.

But with that said, he'd have helped this 2015 team...especially if we're chasing points.

I wish him the best.

Redacted. I don't feel like doing this again over someone who's not on the roster anymore.

Clearly this means you are not allowed to go to Mexico on vacations anymore.

Well there's the fact that (1) we would've beaten Lousville if our Zaire could catch a long snap, (2) we would've beaten Northwestern if Cam McDaniel didn't fumble the ball while we were killing the clock, (3) he threw the game winning pass against FSU if not for Fuller/Procise blocking downfield illegally. So how you pick those games out as an indictment of his play is pretty amazing.

There's also the fact that our defense sucked dick the second half of the season and got ran over by Lousville's RB and gave up what(?) 49-ish points to Northwestern? I think your post sucks. That's what's funny to me.

Five interceptions by EG in those games. Doesn't even count for the number of fumbles. If EG took over those games, in a good way, we'd not be having this conversation.

Our defense sucked, yes. EG's TOs was fuel to a bad, bad fire.

I'll agree with this conclusion.

No more vacations...lol. Although this time was in the Dominican Republic. I agree with you both.

Would really liked to have both QBs on this roster in 2015.

He had four in those games. And eight TDs.

You're right, 4 picks...how many fumbles? We lost those game by a total of 10 points.

All I'm saying is those games could have gone either way, just like the Stanford game. If he wins 3 of 4 it would be a very different story

And I quote thee...

Golson shouldn't have lost to FSU, Northwestern or Louisville.

To recap those games from Golson:

68 of 116
58.6%
899 total yards
9 total TD
4 INT

Of those 4 picks he was hit while throwing on two of them and a third was the 4th down heave after he'd already won the damn game against FSU.

1 lost fumble in those games. One.

But Golson shouldn't have lost those games.

Soon enough Zaire will learn what it's like to get this treatment. Soon enough.

The entire team and staff lost those games, it wasn't just Everett.

Agreed again. The QB gets too much praise when the team wins, and much more blame when they lose.

With the one fumble someone else points out that is 5 turnovers in 3 games we lost by a total of 10 points.

And then there is still that game in the Coliseum. He at least showed fight in Arizona.

It's honestly amazing how much reasonable people go full stupid when discussing the starting QB at ND. This board reads like ESPN headlines when the topic comes up. It's so unnecessary and dumb.

You don't think EG's TOs had a huge impact on this team's final record?

Considering that he put us in a position to win each of the three games you mentioned if someone else even remotely did their job I'm not going to say that he "lost" those games. Look at his freaking statline. I'd blame roughly half our team, Vangorder, and Kelly for each of those losses before our QB. The fact that you're even trying to boil it down to that one question of "did it negatively effect..." Shows that you're oversimplifying to an extent that a reasonable football discussion can't be had.
