if he couldn't win with the backfield he had several years ago in arkansas, i'm not sure he's got it in the cards.

this is always interesting time of year with the coaching changes...gut wrenching at times to wait and see how it impacts recruiting.

I wish Purdue would just can Danny Hope already and send a blank check to Mike Leach.

All the buzz in Lawrence is the Mike Leach will end up at KU. It'll be interesting...

They could certainly do alot worse. How Leach has been an afterthought for this long is beyond me. He could instantly turn any BCS program into a bowl team.

I enjoy seeing ND beat up on Purdue under Danny "No" Hope. That gameplan he put together for us this year after an extra week to prepare was a thing of beauty.

Illinois begins search for Zook replacement, Greg Schiano among candidates - NCAA Football - Sporting News

11/29

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano and Toledo coach Tim Beckman are among the leading candidates to replace Ron Zook at Illinois, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

...

According to the Tribune, salary could be a factor with Schiano. His annual salary of $2.2 million is greater than Zook’s $1.75 million, and the school has to pay Zook $2.6 million over the next two years

Mike Leach at Kansas would be nice for them. I'd personally like to see him at Arizona State. Throwing the rock around in perfect conditions all of the time--what more can you ask for? :)

I would bet vbucks that Toledo's Tim Beckman ends up at Illinois. That would be quite the hire for them. I guess Northern Illinois' coach could get the job though.

The rumor mill seems to have Mike Leach going everywhere right now. A biding war might go on for his services.

The question is who among KU and WSU should be able to compete with UCLA $$$. However I'd expect UCLA has a bigger contract to buyout than the others so I don't know how deep the pockets are for a bidding war.

Kansas Football Coaching Candidate: Mike Leach - Rock Chalk Talk

by Owen on Nov 28, 2011 11:01 AM CST in Kansas Jayhawk Football 2011

...

The "Pirate" will be a sought after commodity and Sheahon Zenger will have to sell the Kansas program and pony up a pretty nice contract to make this happen. That's why it's best to not put all your emotional eggs in the Mike Leach basket. Nonetheless, let's take a quick look at Mike Leach as it pertains to being a Kansas coaching candidate.

i wonder if boise states peterson will get a call from ucla. it would be nice to see some fight back in the bruins. moore is leaving, it might be time for peterson to move on as well. ucla could be a contender with the right guy at the helm.

i would love to see Peterson at UCLA. i've always liked the Bruins and they've been horrific for too many years.

I think the best fit for Peterson would be Penn State i know it would take a few years to get his players there for that offense but in the divison you have to be able to score to win which Penn state has struggled to do aginst good teams.

Dan Mullen ahead.

I think he'd be out of his mind to take a UCLA gig. He has a career job at Boise. It's his till he retires or gets bored of winning 11-12 games a year. He's A#1, King of the Hill in Boise and Idaho. At UCLA he's not even in the #1 program in the City much less the conference.

UCLA averages 7 wins on a 13 game card. They've had 10 wins season under Donahue 3 times in the '80's, by Toledo twice in the 90's, and once by Dorrell in '05. But they only achieved 10 wins back to back once. Usually after a 10 win season they nose-dive to an average 5 win season. Lot more talent in CA but a lot more teams competing for it.

According to Sagarin Boise played the 51st Toughest Schedule while UCLA played the 16th Toughest. Peterson will probably never get to the National Championship Game at Boise but he could be a BCS regular. UCLA has gone to the Rose Bowl twice in the past 25 years. They last won a Rose Bowl in '86.

Very true. Not every coach has to search for the next best thing. I wouldn't blame him for staying at Boise forever. Dan Hawkins tried to look for greener pastures and is now on the Ty Willingham track to nowhere.

That is a tough divison to win in. With USC comming off of suspension they are going to come back hard.

Somebody is going to make a run at Kevin Sumlin as well. Manny Diaz will get some interviews also, especially if Mullen were to leave MSU. Gus Malzhan's stock has dropped some-- Auburn's O was electrifying when it had Cam Newton, but has been mediocre to downright bad when anybody other than Newton has run it. Gus will still get interviews, and still probably a job, but he's not the commodity he used to be. Don't be surprised if Al Borges' name pops up some, as well as Charlie Strong's.

Oh yeah- don't know how realistic it'll be, but Ken Norton's name may get thrown in there for the UCLA gig.

Borges has been a college OC for 25 years including a 5 year stint under Toledo. He left for CAL. Before UCLA he was at Boise and Oregon. He was Hoke's OC at SDS and Hoke took him with him to UM.

I'd put ASU higher on the list. Besides the intangibles of weather, location, and hot as sh!t girls, the population explosions in Arizona and Nevada (not to mention the proximity to Southern California) will make that fertile recruiting ground in the years to come. Plus whoever takes that job will not be getting a bare cupboard. It won't be like Nutt taking over Orgeron at Ole Miss, but there is some talent on already that roster. Kansas would have been higher, but they lost all momentum for their program from the Jabba the Hut/Turner Gill fiasco over the last 2+ years. Could still be a sleeper though.

Leach agrees to be the head coach of Washington St.

I like this for both parties. Leach can flat out coach and get results from his players. Some may scoff at this idea, but that location also puts him in better proximity (Utah, Idaho, California, Hawaii) to potentially land more Mormons than WSU has gotten before now.
