I don't know about the best, he is up there though. Ethan Johnson was highly regarded coming out of high school and he is now playing lights out. Filer was really good, don't know if he is considered lineman though, kind of the tweener.

You're correct on Johnson he was the #2 DE with a Rivals 6.0 Rating.

Nix is #7 DT with 5.9 Rating.

Cwynar was #12 DT with 5.9 Rating

Nix does matter, as does taking two more DT recruits (Nix counting as one of them.). Weis didnt get the dlineman early, last year only signed one. we need to take at least 4 pure defensive lineman in this class IMO. Nix saying "he cant explain ND" is a good thing. ND is impossible to put into words.

I agree. Nix is the only DT I would take at this point. I would rather save a couple scholarships for top end talent that have a major interest in the Irish than to land either Gaston or Allen. IMO I dont see either of them as better then our current young backup players in Cwyner, Stockton, or Hafis Williams.

ND doesn't need them to be better necessarily (although it would be nice). What they do need is for them to be comparable and to provide depth on the line, which has been a problem for a while.

Weird quote: "I don't even know..."

Is he saying ND isn't recruiting him as hard? Or maybe their offer isn't available anymore? Weird.

It read more like he couldnt put into words how he feels about ND. The satff is recruiting Nix very hard and they feel very good about him from what i have read. It appears that Miami is not recruiting him anymore. He has not talked to them since the USC game.

So summarizing the past 20 or so posts, Miami (there's more than one UM folks) isn't recruiting him anymore but he's going to sign with them and he can't put into words what he thinks about ND although he visited twice on his own dime.

???

jason can you summarize his status in a single post using more than sentence to do so.

I think Nix is more of a true Nose Tackle (which we need, and bad) than Cwynar is.

Cwynar is more of a run stopping/pass rushing hybrid body type. Nix is a big ox you throw in the middle of a defensive line, to gobble up blockers.

I think Nix is at the very top of Tenuta's big board.

A true Nose plays only in a 3-4 scheme. Instead, we have two DTs... of which Nix would be fantastic.

A commitment is not binding. You have to recruit kids the whole year through. Committed players should be in constant contact with recruiters. The fact that Nix has not been in contact with Maimi in 2 weeks shows how Miami feels about his committment

Who else is recruiting Nix that we need to be worried about?

A true nose can play in 4-3 as well -- they're golden in running downs and goaline packages.

Anyway, I read a fantastic article over at ISD about Nix. Seems like the kid has come a very long way.

He quit his football team several times his Fr. year ... and was just an overweight 15 year old who the coaching staff turned into one of the most sought after recruits in the country 4 yrs later. He also had grade issues, but those drastically improved his senior year.

This sounds like a special kid -- but a kid that wouldn't surprise anybody if he commits and decommits several times to multiple schools. This one is going to go down to the wire. Also, the coaching staff is going to earn their paychecks keeping this kid on the up and up, imo.

New ESPN article on Nix. Talks about he grew up in bad area but coaches and football turned him around. This is what he said about Notre Dame:

Growing up, Notre Dame was something I didn't know too much about. It was all about the Floridas and the Miamis and Florida States. My mentor told me I needed to go ask somebody, ask my counselor, who is Notre Dame, just tell them you got offered by Notre Dame and look at their reactions. I talked to a lot of people and said I got offered by this school and that school and this school, and I brought up Notre Dame and their expressions just changed like wow, you got offered by Notre Dame. That's when I came to find out it had to be something special."

Nix got to see for himself in late June, camping at Notre Dame for three days. He took an official visit to the Irish campus in September for the Michigan State game, and returned again in October for the USC game.

"I know now that I can fit in at Notre Dame."

Says that he still doesnt know where he will go and make a decision shortly after the season ends, and when he makes the next decision it will be final.

Not sure how this happened, but it's at least some good news for a change. Now if we could just get a HC to commit to the Irish, we'd be in business.

I feel like Louis must know something that we don't. The timing of this is just plain out weird. I think he must know who the next head coach will be...IMO a great hire is coming soon. Thanks for being the indicator species, Louis Nix.
