This is confusing but i'll relay what i've heard. Weis has our defensive line setup as a DE NT and DT....With Cwynar being the DE....Newman(hopefully) being NT....and Hafis being the DT. The NT lines up over center obviously, and the DT( which is a DE in the 3-4, but Weis calls it a DT because the lineup on the strong side or something and more on the inside of the line so it would be like a DT run stuffer kind of how Hafis Williams is. As we all know Cwynar is a pass rushing end already in HS so he would be on the Weak Side DE to rush with more freedom. If you are confused i am sorry because thats the best i can describe it without confusing myself. It's just Charlie and his wierd terminology again i guess.

Thanks IrishKnight - this really cleared things up! Reps.

There was a thread a while back that gave insight in regards to years of eligibility for current players and upcoming scholies that will be available, where is it?

I am just wondering how many more d-lineman we should get...

I'm really glad to see another D-line pickup here, and a really good kid by the sounds of it as well. This recruit class is really beginning to shape up quite well....Charlie really wants some more rings for those fingers.

Excellent analysis IK1023, it explains Hafis's use of the DT tag more clearly.

One thing that CW did say when he first talked about the 3-4 is that he would prefer not to use SDE (or DT in the other terminology) & WDE (or DE in the other terminology) personnel because then the D has to adjust its' alignment to the Offensive formation. His preference was to have two book-end DE's (LDE/RDE) who line up in the same spot (left & right of the NG) on every play, regardless of where the strong-side of the offensive formation is. From a personnel standpoint at the present time, the SDE(DT)/NG/WDE formation seems most likely, but if ND were to snag a Marcus Forston type who is virtually the same size as Cwynar, then the book end DE formation may become a reality in two years or so. From that point on, that would seem to be the optimum scenario for the DL when it is in the 3-4. Even without Forston, Hafis Williams may end up being a book-end to Cwynar, and they may be able to go LDE/NG/RDE with Cwynar, Newman? /Williams.

I hope so at least, and then we would not have to deal with so many tags.:)

It's nice to open up Hafis' thread to see 3 massive pics of Jessica Alba haha. Anyway I was just browsing around and some you may already know this, but this is the first time i've stumbled opon it. Hafis was Rivals 2nd team Jr. All American this year with the likes of Marcus Forston and Wes Horton. Rivals had this to say in summary of Hafis....

DL: Hafis Williams
6-3, 265, Elizabeth (N.J.) Elizabeth
Williams is a very active defensive tackle, making more than 100 tackles as a junior despite constant double teams. He has an excellent motor and was a leader on his state championship team.

-------He's probably the only one on that list who isn't at least in the top 250. My reasoning has to be that they have absolutely zero film on him. I think the pick up Hafis (Who is versatile and can play DE,DT, or NT in our defense) is alot bigger then what sites and people make of it because of his early offers from ND, RU, PSU and UV. Played on a state championship Elizabeth school (which plays good football.) Just reading about him today and seeing that he along with Cwynar (One of Two top D-lineman in Illinois) Omar and Newman have already solidified our line for this recruiting year and anything else added on would just be gravy. Best recruiting year IMO.

some magazine that i read had hafis as one of like 6 DTs to watch for the class of 2008. it was one of the 2007 season preview magazines, but i cant remember which one. it said he benches 420 and squats 600. really surprising to me.

I saw that too. I'm going to take a guess and say Sports Illustrated but I know that is incorrect.

-----Yeah I don't think think he was benching 420 and still don't think he is. It's amazing not too long ago Hafis was pre-season All-American and top 5 DT's in the country by Rivals and obviously this magazine and now he's a 3 star. The only reason I can possibly come up with is he didn't send out his film to anybody but the schools he got offers from.

I just read the magazine you probably saw that in. Was it CBS sportsline college preview mag.?

They have Hafis as the top defensive lineman in NJ. A standout with more than 100 tackles: he benches 430 and squats 660

---Hmmm that's even higher.

From a preview of his conference (his team is ranked #1):

Best on defense: Hafis Williams, Elizabeth. The 6-3, 300-pound tackle, who has committed to Notre Dame, is difficult to stop. He collected 106 tackles and six sacks as a junior and since has gained 15 pounds of muscle while reportedly improving his quickness.
