Kelly appeared on a local radio show yesterday (the 3rd) and said that Cwynar is fully healed and ready to go for fall camp. Good stuff.

I'm going to miss Sean. Hell of a player! He gave it all on the football field.

On a side note his girlfriend is so hot!

Two degrees in 4 years. He's ready to take on the world.

This man is the icon for the ND way of student athletics.

Go get 'em, Sean!

Just wanted to wish Sean luck and pass along a couple of quotes from him that exemplify what is so special about the type of kids that play football at Notre Dame:

“I talked to Coach Kelly last night about it and he reiterated it that he still wanted me, but he knew from previous talks that I was leaning toward other options, being able to utilize two awesome degrees from Notre Dame,” Cwynar told the Chicago Tribune. “I just don’t think staying around and taking one credit in summer and nine in the fall is a good use of my time. I loved my experience here but I just think it’s time for me to move on and pursue other things.”

It’s a huge decision to stop playing. I love the game and I love playing for Notre Dame. It’s one of best experiences I’ll have for the rest of my life. I’ll love the program forever and I hope they’re very, very successful in the future and I know they will be… I couldn’t imagine myself coming back and not being able to pursue anything academically. I just really think it’s time to move on.”

Bittersweet moment for me. He seems to exemplify everything about a Notre Dame man but then again it opens up a slot for a younger player to step in and play sooner.

Whatever he wishes to pursue I wish him the best.

I don't know. If you would tell me that I could do very little schooling for 2 sessions and play for Notre Dame for free. I would do it in a heartbeat and don't really care about the school part. Then again, he has live his Notre Dame football dream, I haven't.

This is kind of my point (only in reverse). Almost everyone would take the attitude that you're endorsing - certainly all the players at the football factory schools we are expected to compete against. What makes ND unique and special is the idea that football players aren't mercenaries, they're actually students at the university. What could exemplify that quality better than Sean's decision that his time at ND was through when he had accomplished all he could academically, not when his football eligibility expired?

Mr. Cwynar exemplifies what being a scholar-athlete at ND is all about and reminds of all of why we love Notre Dame. Good luck to you and may you be successful in everything.

Wow. Sean's future is set: smokin hot GF, MBA from ND, and a job after a couple months of being out of school

You mean a recruit should line up a real job as a back up for the NFL?

I thought you could play in the NFL until you were 65.
