2025 WATCH PARTY: NOTRE DAME IS INDEPENDENT, CRY MORE

I don't disagree, but if the committee were willing to do that they wouldn't have moved Bama to 9 and then come up with bizarre, embarrassing rationalizations for doing so. That was a signal that Bama is in more or less no matter what.

2025 WATCH PARTY: NOTRE DAME IS INDEPENDENT, CRY MORE

If they want to do it, they'll do it. We just don't know what they want.

It's because they are both 11-1. That's it.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Every CCG loser dropped last year. But it really turns on whether or not they want to flip ND and Miami or not. If they want to, they will just drop BYU, even with a close loss. I don't think how BYU loses (if they lose) will determine whether ND or Miami gets in.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

I would have said (and believe I did?) that after A&M, we're at an 80% chance to get in if we go 10-2. Now it's like 50/50 because a bunch of breaks went against us; mainly, OU beating Bama and Miami losing twice (as opposed to once or three times). We've had bad luck, but I don't know if it's...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

We'll see about the odds. I didn't realize but apparently FSU was -800 to make it in 2023 the morning of the selection show? Maybe this group leaks more, who knows. The shift toward Bama last week was interesting and obviously proved something.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

I think some ND fans think that since they believed ND should be over FSU in 1993 because ND won head-to-head, they have to take the same position now. I don't agree. As everyone knows, ND wasn't ranked ahead of FSU in 1993, despite the head-to-head win, even though that game was played in...

Have they said anything about the SEC? It's been 100% attacking ND.

The Optimal Notre Dame Scheduling Model

That probably won't happen again in our lifetimes. I can't offhand think of any previous ND season (or any team's seasons) where this happened.

*Fickell The 2021 Cincy game ended up mattering a lot. If ND wins maybe BK doesn't leave because we're in the playoff (but he probably still leaves tbh). But it also likely means we end up with Fickell, not MF.

Does Notre Dame make the CFP?

Unlike now? It's that or get rid of auto-bids, which apparently isn't an option.

ACC programs make money if Miami gets in, iirc.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

The committee basically announced last week that "gusty" Bama is in no matter the result of the SECCG. I'd be stunned if Bama drops out. The only question is whether they drop at all. Dropping to 11 means they are out, so it probably won't happen.

ND's Talking Heads ... The good, bad & ugly

The difference between our resume and Oregon's is that Oregon is 11-1 and we are 10-2. Both of us have the same "best win" (USC). It has nothing to do with conference affiliation, it has to do with the front-loading of the schedule + bad play/coaching early in the season. Also, we've had...

    Coaching Carousel

Well now Hartline is leaving (btw, why didn't PSU call him? He would have gone there I assume) and yeah, OSU is in a large city but most P4 programs aren't in large cities. Among championship winning programs, it's OSU, Texas, USC, and Miami; then also Washington, Cal, Northwestern, UCLA, ASU...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Without formal expansion, there should (at the very least) be a play-in game for the 12th spot. So, say, G5 vs. the lowest ranked other team (maybe UVA or Duke this year, depending on the ACCCG) for that spot. The G5 team should have to beat a decent P4 team before getting a spot.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Go look at the pre-playoff Sagarin ranks for CFP winners (since 2014). From what I can tell, the eventual winner is usually ranked 1 or 2, and the lowest rank is 5. Advanced stats are highly predictive at narrowing the pool of likely winners.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Because teams almost never play the two best opponents on their schedule as the first two games of the season. That was an all-time scheduling mistake. Would be helpful to know who is responsible for that. The timing of A&M probably couldn't be fixed (we would have to play them early to play at...

    2025 College Football Playoffs

I don't agree with that. The football playoff is much smaller than the basketball tournament, relative to the number of teams. Football has 12 teams among 136 FBS teams. So 9%. Basketball has 68 teams among 363 D1 programs. So 19%. If we had 19% of FBS teams in the playoff (26) letting the...
