    ACC discussion thread

The ACC should have seen this problem coming during the season, as some beat writers (e.g., John Brice) did when they pointed out that Miami being out of the ACCCG would hurt ND's CFP chances. This would create a Miami/ND fight and strain the ND/ACC relationship. But apart from that, the...

Marcus Freeman named Dick Corbett Head Football Coach

One issue with MF seems to be that he doesn't take command as against his coordinators. Why are we throwing 30 times in the Miami game with a new QB and the RBs we have? Why are we changing the defensive scheme? The coaching failures this season had disastrous consequences. The front-loading of...

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

The difference between the opinions of people on Fox and ESPN/ABC was striking. And this was Leinart, Ingraham, etc., not just Brady Quinn. You have to apply Occam's razor at some point.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

That surprised me. Finebaum, McElroy, Pete Thamel, etc., said as much. Someone here said that if OU had lost to Bama (can't wait to watch that game again btw) then Texas might have jumped us. After all, they beat A&M. Etc., etc. I don't know if that would have happened, but I can't say I...

To be fair, no Alabama fans have been banned. Only an LSU fan. What does that tell you?

    2025 College Football Playoffs

We definitely had a lot of bad luck, and normally 10-2 ND is in. But this future "protection" is illusory; the committee will just drop us to 13 if they want to keep us out. The problem is having a committee making these decisions, rather than a BCS-style formula.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

Also, why did Ivan Maisel recuse himself from discussing ND? Was Mike Riley recused from discussing Bama? If Maisel is recused and all the members with SEC or ACC ties -who stood to directly benefit their schools' bottom lines by excluding ND- are not, there should not be any recusals. If...

The Optimal Notre Dame Scheduling Model

We learned this year that going 12-0 or 11-1 is more important than SOS. It would have been better if we had won the first two games and then lost to Purdue, e.g., like last year. We'd be at 7 or something. I don't see the benefit to making the schedule harder.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

One of the committee members was Mike Riley, whose bio on the CFP website says he was a member of Alabama's 1973 national championship team. Head-to-head results aren't always decisive.

Does Notre Dame make the CFP?

Correct. No more committees. Given the amount of money on the line, ND will always be screwed under that system. We didn't move in the AP and Coaches polls.

Does Notre Dame make the CFP?

It has to be Bama/OU. Or the fact Miami wasn't in the ACCCG. USC wouldn't have taken our spot.

Does Notre Dame make the CFP?

Well, we all saw how much our "goodwill" was worth. Wasn't worth much. Money talks.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

ND needs to push for a ranking system like the BCS, where everyone knows in advance what counts and what doesn't. In particular, if CCGs don't count, then they won't count. Fine. Or maybe they count for half as much. Whatever. But not the current rule, which is: they count for everyone except...

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

To be fair, I have no idea how much it mattered. But it's very odd that they waited this long to flip ND and Miami if head-to-head was so important.

    The Pete Bevacqua Thread

Yeah, but let's be candid: Pete got rolled and embarrassed this week. He kept a low profile during the nonstop media campaign against ND. Was he misinformed about ND's status? I hope he learns a lesson from all this. And now he is saying we have some sort of deal where we get in if we're ranked...

I don't know about that one, but yeah, the others are right. It was poor play early + very bad luck + follow the money.

'23 MO RB Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame Signee)

Correct. I hope both reflect on that for awhile during the off-season. Each were all-time coaching fiascos.

    2025 College Football Playoffs

What they say is not the actual reason. They'll say anything to justify whatever they want to do. Losing to Miami is part of what screwed us (there is a long list), the margins later weren't the main issue. They weren't going to overcome a H2H loss.

ND's Talking Heads ... The good, bad & ugly

Listening to anything any committee member says as though it is true and meaningful is folly. These people lie like they breathe.
