I may be in the minority here. But I don’t think Williams had a bad game. I feel he actually had decent vision today.

Now, the younger guys showed out now doubt. They were great. But I don’t think Williams was bad.
Williams vision and ability to read and set up blocks was again putrid. He doesnt seem to understand how to let blocks develop and where pursuit is coming from. He routinely turns a 15 yd play into 2-3 yds and a cloud of dust. At least once a game he gets a carry on outside zone and cuts upfield way too soon right into the pursuit where if he patiently lets the blocking play out and works outside longer he is going to have a huge gap open up. Its incredibly frustrating to watch.

Landon is on board with Walton as RB1. Just such a difference in his patience and his ability to press the hole and then jump cut outside.

Did ISD actually report they officially heard the Carr check Denbrock thing or is this just Greg and Jamie’s speculation?

I was at the game and re watched it last night

Good - Oline, Oline, Oline. Carr was great, wrs, we have a clear #1 RB. The scheme vs unc I think is what a lot of people (myself included) expected to see coming out the gates this year. Use your experienced stud QB, WRs, to set up a power run game with a lot of counter. It was a great game plan offensively minus some near the goal line issues, but the obvious one sounds like it was a really bad CJ check. This game is probably 41-14 or more if ND punches it in to go up 28-7 from the 1. OLine again, they were mauling UNC dline. On the first TD pass to faison (great throw), it was actually busted coverage, flanagan was wide open for a walk in.

I was a bit confused on our pass rush in person, but after watching the replay, I thought the DLine played well. They weren't always asked to rush him, and more contain, forcing edwards to make tough throws. Here's where the problem comes in, hopefully this is a one game issue but I'm not sold it is. I'll start with the LBs, they were not good. Many people talked about wanting UNC to try and run outside, well, that's the only success they had with their RBs, as our LBs identified and played outside runs terrible. The lbs were also not good in identifying their zone, rerouting, and getting deep enough in zone coverage. For the season our lbs have 3.5 TFL and no sacks across all 4 core LBs combined. That's terrible through 5 games. Ausberry and Bowen just are not making plays. 2 of their large chunck pass plays on their td drives were mostly on the LBs. They coverted multiple third and longs running outside on our LBs. The rest of the bad was pretty much on Shuler and sanders. Shuler got exposed a bit. Tailch dominated in TE coverage, shuler struggled. I have no clue why Sanders played so much, he had a rough game. He was playing such soft coverage. He had significantly more snaps than DJ, and DJ has been playing great this year. Confusing. IMO, talich is playing so well right now when Tae comes back, i don't think you take talich off the field. It probably won't happen, but to me it's a tae or adon decision when tae is completely healthy. ST - WTF with dropping the ball (Focus). I'm not sure why Zackery is getting playing time even on ST. Jeffery was in weird position, but Zackery is what completely caused it to be a TD. The amount of TDs he's given up vs snaps played is insane. His terrible effort and lack of physicality not only didn't even attempt to tackle their returner, it blocked our other tacklers.

Lastly, UNC was playing dirty after the whistle. Traore and Knapp got bloodied up big time. Ausberry was dumb to rip off the helmet, but he was getting double teamed for about 3 to 4 seconds after the whistle. I'm all for playing through the whistle, but that was absurd.

I'm super excited to see the offense build on this (hopefully similar scheme/approach) going forward. The D has a great chance to learn while winning. Hopefully we see DJ playing a lot more going forward, and our LBs need to wake up, they were ok this season so far, but just bad on saturday. It looked like LB play from early 2025.

What a poverty league football program - should be shut down at basketball schools like UNC. Stadium is a shitbox, sound system sounds like the speakers blew out ten years ago so they overcompensate by supersizing the amp and turning it to 11. FFS they were out of hotdogs and beer at one concession BEFORE halftime - "y'all ever play a football game here before" to the smiling idiot telling everyone in line they were out of dogs and beer - joke right over his head. Bathrooms? We only need a couple of those for the dozens of people we expect to come watch the foosball. Its like they have never sold out before and have no idea WTF to do about it.

So annoyed we didn't beat the brakes off of those prissy bitches. Thought our boys looked lethargic - can't blame them. Not the most focused effort but controlled the game. Wouldn't be a game in the Carolinas without a shit ton of rain.

Noon kick is such a lame ass move by the ACC - when is the last time we had one of those? ACC is just run by idiots that hate money.

Probably should have started in the grinds my gears thread. If your stadium wheels in food trucks, you are not a serious program. Felt more like a rural South Carolina county fair than a sold out, P4 football game. Bush league.

The only good thing about UNC football is the live ram mascot with its balls damn near dragging on the ground.

I'm sorry our boys had to demean themselves to play poverty league this week. At least we are hosting Stanford so we don't have to put up with the same single A ball facilities two weeks in a row.

I actually think it's a great stadium to watch a game. They had a ton of concessions and different options with minimal lines.

There are a lot of good seats given half the capacity of a real football stadium. Kind of like watching a basketball game at Duke. If you like funnel cakes and Kona Ice - ACC football is the bomb.

I was listening to insideCarolina’s postgame pod. It’s refreshing to listen to realists talk about Notre Dame

This is what I assumed

Of course the series could have been shorter if DJ was put in lol

They don't play the same coverage. DJ plays a lot of tight man where Sanders plays more off man. It's not shocking they went at him a few times and maybe not DJ at all. It was 2nd and 10 from the 3yd line and Sanders was so far off, they had an easy pitch and catch for about 12-13 yds. He even had safety help, crazy.

I listened too, I had a long drive yesterday. One notable is they compared it to when UNC basketball wins by 8 vs a lesser ACC team, where the opponent thinks it was closer than it was but they weren't on the same level as the winning team.

This is basically how I felt about it. Annoying and we have some things to clean up, but never really had any fear that this Notre Dame team was going to lose that game (unlike some previous teams that definitely could have lost that game).

Feels like we pull one of these dumb noon ACC starts about once every season or two. And it's not unusual for us to come out flat.

Remember NC State in 2024 when there was a two-hour rain delay and then Estime broke one on the first play back. And the last time we went to Clemson and the offense just blew chunks all day. Pretty sure those were both noon starts.

I feel like smarter people than me have said that noon is actually a better TV window than 3:30, but IDK about that.

Fun fact I just learned from ISD but Nolan James has the highest success rate of any RB in college football. So you basically have one guy that will always "get you something" and needs to be in on 100% of 3rd & short / red zone situations. He has positive EPA on a whopping 67% of runs.

And then you have Walton, who is 5.8 YPC and is probably your best bet for a home run hitter.

Don't overthink it, give these guys at least 80% of snap share moving forward.

The gist, Basically Notre Dame had the talent advantage. Notre Dame wore them down. Complimented their size, specially the OL. Even though UNC played about well as they could have Notre Dame was never worried or rattled, just kept playing
