I saw it in the theater when it first released. I believe it was supposed to be a trilogy, but didn't gross enough.

The ending most streaming sites have had over the years SUCK,… the ending in theaters is so much better

I don't see any way Peter Weir would have signed up for a trilogy. I'm a big fan of the novels and every once in a while there's a rumor of a new movie, but most fans would prefer a prestige tv series. Obviously with a new cast

Weir didn't want to do another but Crowe was pushing for awhile. Not sure if they could've captured that magic again but it is a shame there hasnt been more done with those novels.

Maybe not a trilogy with the original director, but I read somewhere the studio was hoping for a franchise.

Yeah I know, any guy I know that shares my tastes in media tells me it’s excellent so I have little doubt it is,… one day soon

The theatrical version or the Director's Cut? I like both but the Director's Cut is better and closer to the tone of the source novel.

I watched an 85 year old classic for the first time this weekend, The Maltese Falcon. Sorry, but I genuinely disliked it. I get that it was from '41 and of a certain genre, but the acting and dialogue were corny. Too much "Thanks, Dollface" and "Gee, that's swell" sort of crap, and Bogart's tough guy quick and witty dialogue felt 100% fake and too clever by half. It was too predictable and full of exposition dumps. It just felt like bad B-movie fluff filmed in a week. I seriously don't get the love for this movie. I did like Peter Lorre in it a lot though. He did a great job.
