At that time, I was looking at his raw ability, his ability to move, his ability to bend, how hard he played. And those were things I wanted to be a part of. Then I got a chance to get on the phone with him. And I felt his personality. And that’s something I wanted to be around. And I’m thrilled he’s here. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t play some really, really good football for the Irish this year. He executes at a high clip,” Partridge said. “You do not get mental errors with Armel. So, we’re just trying to elevate his knowledge now of what’s happening defensively and to make sure he’s consistent with his technique.”

It would be so fun to have a 6'3 300 lb DT with game-wrecking pass rush ability. Hopefully the hype is real!

Hopefully we can get 6-7 DT's who can cause havoc I don't want to end up in a situation where we have 1.5 healthy DT's going into a championship.

Yeah but you are banking on 6 guys staying healthy, you gotta have a contingency plan if 2 guys go out. People forget Mullins and Hughes both played a ton last year and Hughes was the most productive at times. These guys are like 6-7 right now. Also doesn't factor in Burgress when he gets healthy?

It’s been a clear Top 5 in camp with Hughes exactly number 5. The top 4 rotate 1s and 2s, Hughes always with 2s, but not 3s.

In fairness to me, we had just lost Keon and DL recruiting was in such rough shape it was a pretty dire situation. I've been very impressed with Mukam's development and was so glad that he decided to come back this year.

I was pretty high on Boobie Traore from the jump, his film was damn good and you could tell how good of a raw athlete he was

Mullins had like 50 snaps mostly in garbage time. Hughes had like 250 FWIW.

I think we’re probably, given the DT class coming in at a point where it’s likely not gonna happen with Mullins. Tweeners don’t work out sometimes, could transfer down or find some scheme that might be unique enough to fit in. Maybe a 3 DL type front that 6’4 280 plays in better. Mukam has the advantage that Mullins does not, that 6’3 300+ is tough to give up on.

I will be the negative one on expecting anything from Mukam. We have one or two of these every summer that never end up doing anything in season.

I hope I'm wrong and Partridge unlocked something with Mukam.

Onye, Brewu and Hughes are a solid floor. Mukam and Gray determine the ceiling. I’m not sure what a breakout even looks like, but Mukam has made more plays than Gray in the glimpses we’ve seen since spring.

I think we will know by the end of the Wisconsin game if the Mukam story is anything or not.

Oh I agree. But players 5-8 (Hughes, Sev, Mullins, Burgess, maybe Golden) might have been 3-6 in the past

In his limited '24 and '25 snaps I thought he looked solid albeit in garbage time. He was always viewed as a relatively high upside project. Certainly has the size / agility to be a quality P4 starter. I don’t think it should be a surprise if he takes a step into a quality rotational role as a senior.

His visits in January were reportedly Virginia and Georgia Tech. I guess can you get the level of production that someone in the two deep at either of those can provide is your floor.

FWIW Virginia is the local but had pretty good portal evals last season

I know they fought for him but I think that was before they got Brewu and Gray. So it could be that what it says is they were concerned about bodies. They were whiffing on guys and not getting traction with others. Regardless, if he plays well then it was worth it. Hope he balls out.

There was a story about Partridge visiting ND during spring ball last year where he was telling Ash that he had a future NFL guy on the roster in Mukam. Obviously, he certainly sees something. He was the main force behind getting him back out of the portal if I recall correctly. Jamie U has been banging the Mukam drum for several years now, saying he always had great juice as a pass rusher.
