“Bevacqua says the “purity of Notre Dame Stadium was very appealing to SoFi,” citing the lack of on-field advertising or other branding. The only commercial logos within the stadium are for NBC and its streaming service, Peacock.”

Good point. ND is objectively worth more for advertising due to the lack of advertising. Every other jersey has a conference patch even.

“Another element of the SoFi commitment: a one-year, full-tuition scholarship for one male and one female walk-on athlete “who exemplify ambition, resilience, leadership and service.”

$20M is a ton of money for something like this. McDonald’s annual advertising budget is $2B - so $20M would be 1% of that. There are very few firms that could justify an expense like that.

We were talking about basketball yesterday, this is the issue:

Basically unless you have passionate fans and donors for a sport the incentives aren't there to try spend top market. Especially if there ends up being a true cap on rev share.

I don't care about this and I think arguing against it is like trying to fight the wind. You can hate the direction CFB is going, but I absolutely want ND to stay competitive in the landscape. 10+ years ago, ND might have "stood on principle," and not done this and lost with dignity with BK at the helm. Ask yourself, do you really want to go back to those days?

For those who appeal to TRADITION, Notre Dame's greatest tradition is WINNING. I want a little more of that and a little less focus on jerseys and helmets.

“I will be shocked if someone beats this (OSU $$$). I will be shocked”

Andy Staples recording Yahoo podcast minutes before ND deal LMAO
OSU's is better than our's. It is (rumored to be) shorter and has better NIL opportunities clause.

I’ll take the couple extra DTs million now and worry about sparse details none of us have read on NIL clauses and unreported term later lol.
It is the offseason I need to bitch about something. Warming up my inner chicken little.

It's hard not to compare it to the deal the entire Big 12 got and the ugly green Monster logo every team has to wear

How does the Sofi money work, is it for only the football team? Do we get 20 million a year or is it divided by monthly?

It goes to ND athletics.
Yep, funds walk-on schollies and has ZERO NIL rider saying that they will provide our student athletes with opportunities. OSU spells it out in there deal. The more I think of the deal (I hate it) I think the admin AGAIN smelled their own farts and said no , we're to good to tie NIL to this deal. It will look funny.

Why the hell would you not include what OSU did? It is dumb and a missed opportunity. The deal really pisses me off. It is peak ND and acting high and mighty. SoFI is one of the fastest growing banks in the country.

Rant off.

I don't understand it either. They saw the $20M offer, looked at OSU's $17M deal, and signed.

Did you see the contract?

You read a sentence description of the ND deal and a sentence description of the OSU and have decided all the clauses and riders mean this in like 5 posts. I am unsure how you came to those very precise conclusions without reading said contract

From everything public my stance seems correct. Everywhere, I researched everywhere to get all the details and what is publicly known I am correct. Why would they hide that? It would be a great recruiting tool.

from everything public = two one sentence descriptions, yet your using modifiers like clause and rider lol

You think ND just signed on a dotted line with a check that says $20,00,000. Yeah nobody in the building has a clue what they are doing NIL wise 😂

I doubt anyone outside of SoFi/ND higher ups have actually seen the contract. You're correct that we don't know all the details, so I'll just say *IF* the deal doesn't have NIL provisions then I agree with TNU that would be a missed opportunity.
