The saga of Stephen Garcia is over at South Carolina. Stever Spurrier announced yesterday that Garcia had been dismissed from the team for failing an alcohol test and, according to ESPN , a marijuana test, as well.

This is "Notre Dame News"? Honestly, I'm just curious why this is here. Sad, but lots of people have cancer. Friend of someone on this board?

I’m 38 and the number of people—especially men—around my age who have developed colon cancer in recent years is certainly alarming. I personally know four guys between 35-44 who have been diagnosed with stage 3/4 crc. Unfortunately with our diets and the way foods are processed and prepared, this trend likely won’t abate.

It’s not an old man’s disease anymore. Know the signs and symptoms and know when to see a doctor. Don’t be too proud or embarrassed to talk to a doctor about “butt stuff.” Don’t be scared of a colonoscopy. I had my first at 33. Mine was clean. My buddy (33) had one shortly after and they found a couple precancerous polyps. They really probably need to lower the screening age again, from 45 to 40. It’s a slow growing disease, but the issue is catching it before the polyps are able to grow and progress into cancerous lesions.

Prayers for Stephen. Cancer is a cruel disease—in all forms.

I think in theory I have a few more years before I "need" to get one according to my Dr that does my annual physical. Prolly wouldn't be the worst thing to just get it over with and send him on the fact finding mission and hopefully find nothing

A couple of years ago my doctor referred me for a colonoscopy since both my dad and Grams had colon cancer. I had the consultation and everything to learn that my insurance wouldn’t cover because I’m not 45 yet.

Wow that's crazy that you suddenly noticed blood in your stool and your bowel movement regularity changed. You might want to tell your doctor and see if that gets a different answer from the insurance company.

Wow, didn't realize that was a thing with insurance SMH. The health department where I live actually offers a gift card if you have one done LOL

my old man died at 60 from bowel cancer, i've been getting colonoscopys since i was 30

with family history it should be covered at aleast 35. thats crazy its not covered on your plan

the prep is kinda rough, you have to fast and then have to drink a solution (i usually mix with gatorade) and then spend an evening literally on the toilet not even pooping cos everything is liquified. but when it comes to the procedure they knock you out (which feels good lol) and then you wake up and you dont have any discomfort or anything and can go about your normal day

sorry brother just the disease is personal to me, and any chance i get to raise any awareness of it im doing it. This guy is super young and was a cult CFB figure for many folks

yeah I have an older buddy that went through it and described it the same way. He said his advice is to schedule the absolute earliest one of the day you can that way you get it done and go about your day and eat a huge breakfast and recover.

If you mix with Gatorade, the key is to pick your least favorite flavor lol. Otherwise it’ll ruin that flavor for you, forever.

1000% true. Worst thing I had to do as it got to the point that I could swallow a marble and it would come rolling out the backside within seconds. Nothing but liquids with 1 gallon left to drink. Getting through that...the rest is a cake walk.

My wife is a GI RN and says that if someone notices blood in their stool, it’s almost guaranteed insurance will change their tune. My bet is insurance is the one fighting against a lower screening age b/c they don’t want to pay b/c the # of patients who actually have malignant tumors at young age must not out weigh the number of colonoscopies that are benign & cost the insurance company. It reminds me of Medicare (before Part D) not paying for a 75 cents beta blocker to prevent a heart event but then would cover the open heart surgery that costs tens of thousands.

lol yeah first year i did it the solution the pharmacy gave me was lemon flavoured so i used lemon gatorade and now i cant even look a the bottles without shuderring

To Dublin: I was simply curious. I like to know what I'm reading, especially when there is sort of a request embedded in it. (ex. prayers or money). As far as the gray hammer "Boo" (his dislike goes back a decade and I still can't figure it), and KPenn ... well ... fu.

Im 45 this summer so I got one scheduled, seeing the amount of people my age (or younger, yikes), getting this is slightly terrifying. Not to mention, I've had left abdomen pain for years...
