I think Moore is the first defensive player off the board if he could go pro this year. He's like designed in a lab to be the perfect corner back. I don't follow recruiting close enough but it makes no sense to me how he wasn't a 5 star.
He might be the first corner taken, but the first defender likely off the board is Arvell Reese.

Have not seen Mansoor Delane from LSU enough to form an opinion.

I think an edge rusher is going to be the first defensive player this year, reese, bain, clark are all good enough to substantiate the positional value.

Do we know what Moore’s expected 40 time is? He’s going round one with a 4.4, but a 4.3 puts him top 5.

Moore is probably the best ND corner ever, and has a chance to be an NFL great!

I feel for Leonard and especially his family. My younger brother went through epilepsy as well. He probably had 25 seizures between the ages of 4-10. He never remembered having one. But it’s incredibly tough on the family. The number of times we had to just comfort him during one, it’s tough. My brother grew out of it as well.

Impressive what Moore is doing and will continue to do!

Not that it makes epilepsy any easier but his parents are also quite impressive people. Dad is a history professor at Texas and mom is like an actress and playwright. I’d guess Leonard Moore will be very successful in life.

I don’t see how he’s not the best ND CB of all time if he stays healthy. He was probably a top 10 CB in the country as a freshman and a consensus 1st team all American as a sophomore. If he repeats his sophomore campaign, how it could be anyone else?

I think he already is. He could not play in 2026 and I’d still label him as the best of all time.

Todd Lyght won a national championship as a sophomore starting CB, was a unanimous AA as a junior, then a consensus AA as a senior. He was drafted 5th overall and went on to win a Super Bowl and be an All Pro. The game has changed a lot since then, which may give there to Moore (he has tougher coverage assignments) but it’s close to say the least.

'Ever' is a very long time....though I agree Moore likely is/will be the best ND CB ever....and, I agree with the poster who notes that It's a different game now

I think Morrison may have been ranked up there IF he hadn't gotten hurt.
And, agree that Todd Lyght belongs in the conversation at CB

Others over the years...going back a ways:

Bobby Taylor....an AA at Safety, he moved to CB in '94

Jeff Burris...AP & UPI 1st team AA CB in '93

Luther Bradley...though Luther was a SS as a Frosh on the '73 National Champs...moved to CB after his 'year off' (75-77)

Mike Townsend...led the Nation in interceptions w 10 as a CB in '72....played FS the next year on the National Champs

Clarence Ellis...my personal favorite...like Bradley, started at Safety, but Ara moved him to CB for the '69 USC game...Trojan Coach McKay even noted that move in his post game comments-Elllis had a great game...stayed at CB & was an AA in '70 & 71 at CB & 1st rd draft choice

Tony Carey...he didn't even dress for all the games in '63 for Devore(he sat in the stands with the students)..then Ara made Tony a starting CB in '64 & Carey led the Nation in Interceptions w 8

Long, long time ago......
Johnny Lattner was considered a great two way player in '53(Single Platoon rules)...in fact, Lattner wasn't even the leading rushing for the Irish the year that he won the Heisman...Neil Worden was....Lattner won the Heisman in part due to his defensive play.

Johnny Lujack, played both sides of the ball, and reportedly didn't allow a single completion in his defensive area on '46 team that only allowed 4 tds (24 pts) all season...only 2 of the tds were scored on the 1st team defense!

anyway, ND's Moore has some pretty good company

As far as I can tell, if Moore is a consensus All-American in 2026, he would be the second cornerback ever to be consensus twice, joining Deion Sanders. I know that is very dependent on the other corners playing at the same time, but Moore has a very good chance to be one of the best college corners ever, regardless of school.

Enjoy the players you have while you have them on whatever team you support. Doesn't matter who the best ever is at this position or that. Nothing lasts forever, college sports being an obvious example especially in this era.

See above, Todd Lyght was unanimous and consensus.
