Can someone please explain the need for me why ND always try to be sneaky about the portal and recruiting? There is literally no point, the agent will try to leverage you anyway.

I think it's punitive for the beat's past indiscretions, leaks ect that have haunted this administration. My opinion anyway

Here's an example that Brice cited:
  • ND and Brody Foley had mutual interest
  • ND non-tampered tampered to have an agreement ahead of the portal opening with him. He'd get starter money
  • ND publicly struck out on Marsh
  • Foley's rep calls up ND and basically says 'since you aren't using that money for Marsh, give a bunch to us'
  • ND looks at their eval on him and says 'no thanks' and the visit is canceled.
  • Foley goes to Louisville

Pretending to know something you dont know is a fool’s errand. In high school recruiting all the kids are at least transparently available at the same time. For all we know the top of their board could be Keeley, or a kid who hasnt even publicly entered yet. Could they get burned if that is their approach? Absolutely, but reality is people are stating as fact things they have no actual knowledge about and throwing tantrums over it, and its stupid and pointless.
Nothing will ever be perfect but MF has earned my trust at this point.

Foley also didn’t do shit at the P4 level for 3 years. 300 of his 500 yards was after the catch which is an insane stat. I think he has some physical ability but also just awful tackling.

just from a recruiting perspective, my son was told to not make his a public announcement until a certain date because certain teams offer just because of certain schools offering....so this very well may be the line of thinking

So your hill is that ND's top DT target is an Edge guy or a guy ND is tampering with. And not the actual DTs they've already scheduled to get on campus?

I trust MF and co as well, but they will never publicly state "yea we whiffed on our top guys." Instead it'll be spin..."the guys we signed were our top targets from the beginning." Which is silly and everyone would know is smoke.
