Say what? The market sets what fairly compensated is. There is a market for college football players getting paid.

Just cause you don’t like college football’s current status of paying athletes doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The market is “supposed” to be fairly compensated.

Example from the rumor mill because we never know how much they truly get.

The Auburn WR rumored to get 2-3 million.

If Marsh only gets offered is that fair value?

A person’s value is the amount that a buyer is willing to pay for his or her talent. Nothing more or less. Fair value and market value are not always the same thing.

Minor league teams are affiliated with the MLB clubs. You think NFL owners want to fund minor league teams?

Nobody is putting the shit back into the donkey on this. College football has been the NFL farm system for decades.

This was the original message I was responding, too. This is why it’ll never work there’s no such thing as fairly. You either have to break it down or with some kind of system or it’ll be free market.

The NFL would have to just like the MLB does.

If that’s you out look then you can’t call it college football. Yes I understand that ND football players take lesser classes but they still attend unlike 65% percent of colleges.

At that point it isn’t college football anymore. If you consider it college football they should be required to attend school. If not there’s no point in calling if college football.

And for the record, I think that Tay is an outstanding, upcoming DB. This is not against him personally it’s against the system that is in place currently.

What’s stopping you from just questioning if they love playing the sport?

Have you ever done something that improves the output of your sector at work? If someone at a competing employer is doing what you’re doing but for a higher paycheque, and you love your job, are you just going to give up all leverage?

It’s absolutely nonsensical to just assume that because someone wants to get the market rate they don’t love something. You think Nick Saban was taking discounts?

I'm not a big government guy but I think the only solution might be congress getting involved. I see republican members talk about it on social media, i assume some democrats would like to work on it too. Limit transfers and add in development buyouts or something for smaller schools. I'd also just say you have five years to play four seasons. Get rid of hardships and waivers. Injuries happen and life isn't fair.

The way it is now works out fine for Notre Dame and maybe 10-15 others. But its really stupid when Iowa State has less than twenty guys on the roster and James Madison has zero returning starters.

When Tae was being recruited, wasn't he one of the guys who got a lot of the "work to do in the classroom" comments? The kind that, when we hear them, we just assume that the kids decide against choosing hard and go elsewhere. But he busted his ass and got the grades to get in. I feel like if we give him a competitive offer, which I would expect them to do, he isn't going anywhere. He seems to get ND

Correct. Everyone was saying he was Nd. Then they all said he wasnt going to ND. Once he did the work and committed, they elaborated he did the work

With how much he seemed to work just to get into ND I would be surprised if he left as long as he's given what is right. He IMO had as good of a year as Kyle Hamilton did as a Jr so to not give him a raise would be criminal

Why do you assume everyone is looking for the highest payout? These kids aren't stupid. Another school may offer $500K (just using a number here), but he feels $450K plus an ND degree is better than $500K.

Yeah, there's also a lot to be said for being in the same system year over year. You're going to put together better tape for the NFL if you're more comfortable executing within a scheme.

Would be hilarious/sad to see some of these bozos walk back their long espoused beliefs regarding the “scourge of government regulation of markets/capitalism” due to college football.
