Somebody's sphincter is puckering...

Ignoring half the field that has no chance of winning - JMU, Tulane, Alabama, OU, Ole Miss all have no chance of winning. Three of those are at large bids and two are not. Looked up current odds to win it all - JMU +80000, Tulane +60000, Oklahoma +5000, Bama/Ole Piss/Miami +2500. I'll agree to disagree with Miami even though I doubt their ability to put 4 games together without Beck throwing a pile of INTs and super Mario from making boneheaded calls to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

First round spreads of +17.5 and +21.5 indicate its not a matter of having too many, its a matter of having the WRONG teams.

I would give BYU better odds than OU or Bama but not Miami if I am ranking this stuff. ND/BYU would massively upgrade this field over Bama/OU which just shows that 10 is closer to the right answer than 16.

I want to be loved as much as anyone
They didn't actually love us. The sheer amount of awesomeness, vibes, rizz and whatever other nonsense the kids say that radiates from MF just temporarily reduced their hate.

Besides, it's better to be feared than loved. And I guarantee that after last year's playoff run they all fear us again.

I want to be loved as much as anyone, but what exactly was the value of this goodwill for ND and MF in the past month? I didn't sense the value of the goodwill when the broadcasters were trashing ND during the ND/Stanford game at 1:30am. And definitely didn't sense it when we got screwed out of a CFP spot. The team that gets screwed out of a spot will always be criticized if they complain.
We are talking about different things,… I’m referencing our handling of the decision and how in terms of public perception it blew up in our faces,… but sure. I will say it’s immensely infuriating unlike anything I think I’ve experienced in sports to see bama be everything ND is unfairly attacked for and no one even blinks at it. Too many are saying ‘we can’t change the perception’ yes we can, win a natty, we had legit shot this time and it was stolen in favor of bitch ass bama

I'm also not going to criticize Pete right now but this is where "Savvy Jack" never even let shit get to this point. He was always 2-3 moves ahead of some of these other conference commissioners and was extremely political. No way to know right now whether Pete is overpalying or underplaying is hand but if all the conferences decide to collude to be like "fuck Notre Dame" it only takes four of them to pull it off. And it's what ESPN would prefer, and ESPN runs two of the conferences.

I missed this post. Too many threads talking about the same stuff. Anyways, the bolded is what I brought up yesterday (IIRC). There is a part of me that sees the wagons circling. Perhaps the B1G is sitting back, licking their chops. If ND tips their hand and loses leverage, they run the risk of get screwed. I'm not naive enough to believe ND would get frozen out, but I'm also not trusting enough to assume that ND is some beloved golden goose that everyone in the CFB world is anxiously awaiting their time to bend the knee to ND. There are massive amounts of people who loathe ND and I'm afraid of ND being pushed to a position of "Fall in line, or else," and ND admin chooses the "or else" route. I'm old enough to remember the days of ND admin choosing Ivy League prestige over attempting both sports and academics. We all saw how that turned out. I cannot, will not, survive another 30 years of ND mediocrity if they somehow, some way find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the ESPN ran CFP. Play this the wrong way, and watch Freeman leave for the NFL and this entire thing crumbles.

I agree with a previous poster....someone talk me off this ledge. I need to get outside and touch grass (snow).

Notre Dame's off ramp is now, and will be for the foreseeable future, full membership in the B1G, or the B1G division of the NCAA Football Super Conference. Honestly, if that's the worst case scenario, it's not terrible.

In the last 48 hours I've done a complete 180. I love and support ND's independence, but there is a feeling in me now that perhaps it's run it's course and it's time to join the B1G as a full member. Or at least have the groundwork in place for it to happen at some point in the near future as a safeguard against a freezeout.

Once people finally rationalize that the ACC deal means we aren't truly independent anymore it becomes much easier to then accept the inevitable move to full B1G membership. Happened for me about 3 years ago.

Why is it so hard to just build a schedule without a part time alliance???

Usc
Stanford
Navy
Michigan St
BC
Pitt
Purdue

There’s more than half a schedule with just rivals you can find five more games year to year.

I disagree-as Pete stated, it cements the University's independent status (thought he said that). If ND gets F'd again, I can see a full scorched-earth approach to make changes before the possibility of joining a league event enters their mind.

Because, while the teams that would want to schedule us in a vacuum is probably a mile long, the number of teams that want to schedule us anytime in the season is incredibly small. Almost all of them want to play us in September before the conference seasons get going.

Im so incredibly tired of having beat reporters that simply do not like the team they are covering. Hell even Prister the guy that graduated from ND wrote an entire summary about why UM deserved to be above ND. With friends like these, who needs enemies? Same as having hostile color analysts on our own broadcasts. Fuck your journalistic integrity, nobody gives a shit nerd.
Yeah, a good portion of the beat either don't like ND or take themselves too seriously and worry about being "objective." Like Prister, buddy, you write for a publication called Irish Illustrated, no one views you as objective.

My understanding is 1) Bigger schools are beginning to pull back on the idea of scheduling difficult OOC games. and 2) Conference teams are not willing to schedule ND in the heart of their conference schedules. So finding games in Oct/Nov may prove difficult.

I get that but it’s not impossible especially if it’s their only option. I mean shit, we already play SC/Stanford, and navy later,… but whatever.

Anyway, does anyone feel really good about how Bevacqua has handled this? If so why? Talk me off the ledge

USC is currently throwing a hissy fit due to the fact that they play us that late.

It might be possible, but you'd end up with the 4 most difficult games in September and then cupcakes the rest of the way (even worse than it was this year). Lose 2 of the 4 September games and we'd be toast because nobody would give us credit for beating up Navy, Tulane, Boise, etc. down the stretch.

USC is actively trying to get out of playing ND, aren't they? The teams you listed as "alliances" to build a schedule upon would tank ND's SOS and practically disqualify them from the CFP on that data point alone.

You could talk me into thinking that he's a Jedi master and is playing chess when everyone else is playing checkers and you could also talk me into he's just complaining without any concrete plan in place to deal with the consequences of the complaining.

I think the message has been received by the ACC for sure. He’s out in front taking accountability for opting out of the bowl game and taking all the arrows for the program. His nerdy appearance covers up an assassin. Or at least I hope.

I think the what amounts to a handful of media appearances is like 10% of the work he’s likely doing and people are entirely too hung up on some quotes.
Maybe I've missed it but up until this point he's been in the background. i can only remember 1, maybe 2 press conferences before this. In comparison, it does feel a bit over the top. Probably because i felt like the media tour was leading up to a more impactful press conference, when it just turned out to be more of the same.

In my experience, whenever a "chess vs checkers" line needs to be pulled out, it turns out to be a nothingburger. So that's what I expect now.

He did an end of year press conference last year as well.
