From ISD. As discussed.
In the Film Room: 2013 Irish OL Class

"The quintet of Steven Elmer, Colin McGovern, Hunter Bivin, Mike McGlinchey, and John Montelus is a fantastic haul for Notre Dame and will set this class apart for the next few seasons. In recent years Notre Dame’s offensive line has been an area of question, but this past season the solidification of the front five has given fans a chance to exhale and not worry every time the quarterback takes his drop."

247 dropped him significantly again. Another 50 spots to 154 and a 93 rating now.

He's our best OL commit in a very talented group. Leave it at that.

Elmer wasn't considered one of the top 5 linemen in the nation before the camping circuit for nothing.

Ok but every notre dame analyst disagrees with you.

McGlinchey and McGovern's offer list are better and there is a good chance both will be rated higher when the final rankings come out early next year.

Elmer committed very early in the process. October if I remember correctly. His offer list would have been even better than both of theirs if he had waited until April to commit.

His offer list may have been as good as those two, but not better. McGlinchey has offers from the big 3 in Florida and McGovern has one from Alabama, it would be hard to have offer list better than those.

Also, Dorian Johnson >>>>> Elmer

They received those offers fairly recently. Elmer was already Commited to ND. I initially tout Dorian was overrated when he was unranked 3:s: but now I think he is overrated on 247. He should be somewhere between the 40-60 range IMO.

Johnson is also ranked 26 in the ESPN 150. His stock has risen more than anybody in the last couple of months.

Overall the O-lineman in this class is a strong group. Hopefully they do a better job of living up to expectations than the 2006 O-line class.

Who cares which of our OL recruits is rated the highest? They're all 4 stars. If Elmer is the best so be it, but is it really that crazy to think that one, if not all of our other OL recruits are rated higher? Why sell our other guys short?

No kidding...enough with the pissing contest on which of the ND COMMITS is better. They are committed to Notre Dame. If Elmer is considered "weak" in terms of offers and ability compared to NDs other OL commits then holy **** ND pulled in one hell of a OL class.

Incredible foolishness and wrong-headedness to bash away at a great O-Line commit to Notre Dame, and our FIRST verbal. Steven Elmer is going to be a great ND player and a great member of our family. Thanks for coming to Our Lady's University, big fella.

Agreed - these are all good recruits with a lot of potential.....great to have all of them all and not really need any of them next year. Will all have time to grow and develop AND we got some really good ones on the field now with eligibility and have Stanley etc coming in with the 12's.

here is a quick clip from the other day - Steve Elmer working with Lomas Brown - maybe it is just me but the first step quickness and explosion is impressive.

Sled 2 - YouTube

Very good group and it is even better that none are needed immediately - pipeline of big boys for a number of yrs.

There is a quick clip on you tube of steve elmer if you search under "steve elmer lomas brown sled".
Footwork is very quick and explosive - if all 5 are like this we are in for good times.

I must have missed the part where anyone bashed Steve.

There was a line somewhere in here where the poster wrote X>>>>>>>>>>>Elmer. That is unkind bashing in my book when the lesser lesser lesser etc guy is a great player and a Notre Damer. Not all "cuts" are simplistic uses of the English language; in fact most are not. Disagree as you wish; it gave me the opportunity to say something nice about a really good prospect that I plan on wholeheartedly rooting for IN HIS OWN THREAD.

Freebie from ISD. Liking the sounds of this.

Elmer has been down to Notre Dame several times since becoming the Irish’s first 2013 verbal pledge in September.
“I think it’s mostly getting ready for when I’m going to be there,” the Midland, Mich., native said of his continued trips. “I just talk to Coach (Harry) Hiestand about offensive line stuff and it’s good to get to know him better. I’m pretty comfortable up there now, so I don’t have to work on that anymore. It’s mostly doing whatever I can to help with the other guys who haven’t committed yet.”
Massachusetts offensive lineman John Montelus arrived at the spring game as an uncommitted prospect, but left as an Irish pledge.
“It was kind of surprising to me just because he didn’t let on the whole time, but I could tell he was having a good time,” Elmer said of Montelus. “I was pretty happy just because I was talking to John most of the day and hanging out with him. I think he’s a great player and he’s a nice guy. It was cool to see him jump on board like that.”

The size of ND recruits surprise me every time, I'm not short in any sense of the word, but these people tower above me by at least 6-7 inches.

he has admitted that he didnt do to well at the recent camp, so hopefully he gets motivated and gets that ranking back.

At the end of the day the rankings don't mean anything when these guys get to college.

Elmer will be a 4* on all the top 250 lists at the least, and he's legitimately 6'5 or 6'6" and right around 300 pounds, and he's still in high school. With his size and athleticism and his ability to move around at that size he has real NFL potential if he can develop. He has all the raw tools to be an elite tackle and a great player.

Notre Dame got a really good one there.
