Please tell me where I said it was an excuse for that? I said I can envision that scenario happening, and we should let the justice system play out. The kid hasn't been charged with those crimes yet, and no details have come out, and people are already assuming total guilt and rejoicing in his demise. Is that the American justice system, or how we should treat a Notre Dame student athlete?

I think the most likely scenario is what Ironman described. Tommy was scared shitless and ran and when they caught up to him he tried to kick or push himself free.

I agree/disagree with this statement. Look at how many other universities have had kids get locked up but is a laugh for many on here.(Not saying you do it) But when it happens to ND it not funny anymore? Thats crap. At some point these young men need to be accoutable for their actions. I will give you the beneifit of the doubt that durning the recruiting stage most are still under 18. But Tommy is going on his 3rd year he should know better and so should CC. I don't know what the universities polices are for felonys but most likely this will get dropped like it does most of the time.

That was my answer to that scenario. I for one am not rejoicing in this but as a Secret Service officer, I certainly don't feel bad. Doesn't matter if he was scared, ran, was caught, and tried getting away. He wasn't getting kidnapped, you don't assault, resist arrest etc. The kid had to he pepper sprayed, that's not good.

I am pretty sure in Maryland however i don't know about other states that if see a police officer run that you are hiding something so really the officer wasn't the aggressor.

It will be interesting to compare the penalty levied against Rees to Floyd's penalty(s) after his transgressions when this all plays out. I don't believe his situation was ever a felony (correct me if I'm wrong), but he did have repetitive issues with the same problem (DUI). I echo the sentiments of others in that this would be a terrible way to impact the QB race for the upcoming season, as it would be a shame to be decided anywhere other than on the field. It just goes to show that you are responsible for your actions, and it's not anyone else's fault.

Just disappointing. Disappointing for these young mens careers. What a disappointment to their families. What a disappointment to the university and football program and mostly I'm sure they are pretty disappointed in themselves.

Totally agree with you....,this whole situation sucks and am very disappointed in both of them. Its one thing to have a few too many, but the whole assaulting an officer thing is going to crush Tommy. Its just sad and I dont know how Tommy will get through this.

Is it just me, or does that sound like he is already qualifying the charge? Just my initial thought, but seems like a weird remark to make the morning after the arrest.
