Its the offseason and since theres no football I usually devote most of my attention to two things wrestling and comics. This friday is the first big super-hero movie this summer with the avengers and in July there is both the reboot of Spider-man and the final Nolan Batman film coming out. Who else here is excited for those movies and who else is a big enough nerd like me to go to midnight screening of all of them?

I'm going to stand up after the Batman movie is over and start clapping. The two previous films are nothing short of spectacular and I'm sure the third is going to be even better

Def looking forward to Batman but honestly skeptical of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman..

I felt the same way when I heard she got the part, but I also remember feeling that way when I heard Heath Ledger was going to be the joker, and he was spectacular. I'm just gonna trust in Nolan and wait and see how she does.

Exactly, Nolan has not even come close to disappointing in any of the first movies and with the way the trailer works, I don't see that happening in the thrid. This summer is going to be awesome!

My only beef with catwoman is the costume. Hot yes but a catwoman costume needs ears.

Also I do not like Ben Roethlisberger and I heard he makes a cameo as part of the Gotham City football team. If only we get to see him buried under the rubble, and it looks cool that hines ward who I do like seems to be ok. lol

Way too much bad looking CGI in the Avenger's film to even make me watch the trailer twice.

But Nolan...yeah...I'm excited for The Dark Knight Rises.

I'm excited for the avengers but i know ill be let down. On the other hand the dark knight rises looks like its going to be amazing, that third trailer is bonerific.

Apparently Avengers is getting rave reviews and that doesn't typically happen for Marvel movies.

I feel like a my without a country with the current state of Hollywood... either the movies are complete, special effect driven, plotless crap with a comic book/toy attached simply to save it from flopping... or it is a politically driven film I don't adhere to...

idk how so many people seem to like either... I really don't... but by talking to friends/family and reading this thread... yeah, I pretty much stand alone here i guess... but I hate just about all of these films... Dark Knight was okay...

I miss the days of Gump, Braveheart, Shawshank, Goodfellas and such...

I agree, mostly.

Hollywood is certainly using CGI and recycling storylines left and right. The movies suck more often than ever before.

It has caused me to use torrents and wikipedia to find all the good movies from essentially the dawn of Hollywood. I am weathering the storm that way.

Still though, CGI doesn't make a movie bad. Movies like The Matrix, Inception, the newest Batmans, etc have all been terrific. There are good movies out, just not as many. 1994 was a loooooong time ago (and I was five at the time...).

The good news is that TV is probably as good as it's ever been. The last decade has been freakin' incredible. HBO, Showtime, AMC, and the networks have churned out hours and hours of great television. Thanks to the internet, it's all yours for the taking.

While movies are a director's medium for art, television is the art for writers.

Agree with everything... I just threw out some of my fav. movies, didn't even think they were all from the same year or two... though I think Goodfellas was a bit earilier... those are just the type of films I go for... not effects driven...

and yes, TV has been very good... MUCH better than film

I see where you're coming from but I also think you're not looking hard enough. The super hero movies/plotless CGIs will always have the biggest budgets, always be on the Burger King cups, always make the most at the box office and always be forcefully crammed down your throat.

But, trust that there are and always will be artists who strive to create the original masterpiece. Let me give you a list of some of my favorite made in this last decade. Maybe you've seen some and maybe you'll have the chance to enjoy more.

- High Fidelity (2000) Awesome.. Awesome movie. John Cusack's best IMO.

- O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000) Hysterical.

- Memento (2000) lanigirO

- Almost Famous (2001) One of my favorite quotes "Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid."

- Donnie Darko (2001) One of my personal favorites.

- The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) REVENGE!

- City of God (2003) Just plain solid.

- Sideways (2003) Paul Giammatti..

- The Departed (2006)

- Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

- The Wrestler (2008)

There are countless others.. Great movies will always be made, sometimes you just need a reminder or a recommendation. (Not saying every movie I listed is "great" but in my opinion very worth watching.)

High Fidelity is on my top ten all time list... serial.

LOVED O Brother also... Departed was great... but yeah, I would say they are few and far between in comparrison to previous eras.. that's just me.

Hear ya.. It's all relative either way. I get "Rudy" hate comments at work all the time.. Specifically from a guy who thinks "She's Out of My League" is a good movie.

No, you're most definitely not alone. Matter of fact, all of the above movies are friggin' classics IMO and movies my buddies and I quote all the time (I'll add Good Will Hunting among many others in tere as well).

My wife and I have people offering to babysit for us all the time, and we'd like to go see a movie, but none of them appeal to us, and this has been for like the past year (or longer?). Other than to go see comedies, we rarely go watch movies anymore b/c we're afraid they might suck (Limitless was pretty damn good though, come to to think of it). We just wait until they're out on Netflix now.

We saw The Hunger Games a few weeks ago, and before that it was like HOrrible Bosses or Hall Pass, like a year or so ago. So I'm with you bro - none of these movies appeal to me at all anymore...

After seeing it I thought it was an amazing movie and I really enjoyed it. If youre into movies like that its a must see. Id be willing to see it again at a better theater with 3D capablilites.

Watched it in 3D this weekend. The best marvel film to date I think. Everyone should watch it in the theatre that can. The big flat screen at home won't do it justice.... Hulk is one bad *** dude....

Avengers is AWESOME. Saw it in 3-d. Fantastic. Remember though it is a super hero movie, so you artistic types won't get that type of thrill out of it. Besides the "first" batman with Michael Keaton/Jack Nicholson or the Christian Bale Movies, it uis probably the best super hero maovie yet. They did a great job with Hulk. The other Hulk movies are horrrible.

yeah idk why all of those other Hulk movies were so bad. Fantastic movie as long as you don't expect anything amazing plot-wise
