No one is saying a kid should not be able to look around. This isn't Russia. They are saying that people should not use the word commitment if they are not committed. The NCAA is literally teaching kids that there word is not their bond.

When Zaire "committed" he went from some random kid that I was indifferent to, to a kid I hope will one day join ND. But he is not Irish until he signs on the dotted line.

The only way I would give him, or any recruit, the benefit of the doubt is if he stops dating, i.e. talking to other recruiters. Why have expectations that the kid himself doesn't have?

I have no problems with recruits looking around as long as our coaching staff keeps looking for their replacements. I think putting too much faith in our verballed recruits bit us in the @ss a bit last year. Not talking about Malik, just recruits in general.

Typos and all! In all seriousness, I think there are a bunch of us.

My solution would be to (1) allow unlimited contact between the school and the recruit once he commits (no dark periods, no other limits beyond the single paid official) and (2) disallow other schools from contacting a recruit once he committed by making it a major violation. If a kid wants to talk to another school he would have to either (a) get permission from his current school or (b) decommit.

Just a thought.

I can see that being abused quite a bit...

What do you mean by "abused"?

Oh, I don't know Tom, maybe like starting a redshirt a year early in the SEC. I like your Point 2 really well Domina. And everything else. But Point 1, with certain coaches, unlimited will mean, well . . . Maybe if you allow limited contact with no dark or quiet periods . . . But a kid cannot be allowed to live on campus or work out with the team.

I hear that. I guess I was just referring to contacting the kid every day. My point is that it should fundamentally change the relationship to that school and others.

I guess the part you would have to change in addition would be adding an early signing period:

(3) all verbal commits have to sign on Dec. 1. No verbals after December (you could still tell a coach that you were coming, but it would be like the current free for all, and would not use the commitment language). If the kid doesnt sign, or the school won't let him sign, he is automatically treated like a decomittment. That way both the kid and the school can cover themselves if the other backs out, and the school gets bad press during bowl time if it tricks kids.

fyi...we shouldn't get discouraged if his stats are crazy good this upcoming season. he plays for a heavy run oriented powerhouse in southern ohio that prefers not to throw the ball.

little off topic, but this kid's a winner and in the end that's the type of guy we need behind center and in this class.

:s::s::s::s: QB #11 (Dual threat with a # Grade of 80), and #15 player in Ohio in initial ESPN 150 release.

So ESPN seems to like our class, putting aside that they dinged Elmer a bit. I think that they have all of our other guys besides Robinson as :s::s::s::s:, right? And Robinson is raw and new to the scene - he might have the most upside with his ranking as anyone. So are we going with ESPN as the most reputable recruiting site this year?

Jacob is a three star as well.

Really? Wouldn't Matuska fit more of a TE-H build? ESPN is already screwing this new TE position thing up.

(Sorry, to be taking over Malik's thread.)

Doesnt matter, Matuska is a DE for us anyway
Btw: I think all the QBs are ranked together, but they have DT or P(something) behind it. So Malik is considered the 11th best QB overall, but the QB-DT is indicating he is a Dual Threat QB.

They are ranked separately. DT means Dual Threat and P means Pro-style. Each are ranked individually. Malik is the #11 DT QB, not their #11 overall QB.

I think it is PP for "pro passer." But regardless Malik's offense doesn't exactly bode well for him as far as qb rankings go. Glad he is Irish nonetheless.
