I know there are a lot of different opinions about Tiger Woods out there so I'm wondering, whats yours?

IMO I hope he's back. He's one of, if not the best golfer ever. I think the PGA tour needs him to be back even more than he needs it. He drives the field to be better and makes golf on TV much more fun to watch. What are your thoughts?

Because it usually comes up in conversations about Tiger, I'll also say, I don't think his personal life is any of my business.

On one hand the nature of his transgressions is intolerable and disgusting. He is clearly incorrigible in that regard.

On the other, marrying a professional athlete is like marrying a rockstar and he is just like the other 99% of them who live like that.

My official position is that I will never, ever lose sleep if Tiger wins or loses. I just want to see some nice golf shots from any of them. I will probably root for McIlroy though.

I hope he gets back to dominating. Just because he was as much fun to watch as Michael Jordan was in his heyday. The guy just owned his sport for a decade.

Edit- I don't care about Tiger's relationship with his wife any more than George Lucas cares about his own movies.

Being a lifelong avid golfer I have differing opinions of this.
On the one hand, it is great for the game of golf for him to get his form back.He brings out the best of others at their peaks, and meanwhile helps elevate the sport to new levels(case in point, The First Tee.)
On the other hand, he is a douchebag.Plain and simple. If you have ever followed him in a galelry, you'll know this to be true. The only time he ever treats fans decently, and this only happens seldom, is when there is a camera on him.I could honestly care less about his transgressions outside of the game of golf, because he is human like the rest of us. But the way he has acted on the course at times is embarrassing as a fellow golfer.

As far as Tigers personal issues go, or for that matter almost anyone who's ever had a "fall from grace", I'm one that would always hope for their redemption, rather than their demise.

I can't explain it but I've rooted for tiger more passionately since his demise. I guess I didn't realize how meaningless golf was to me without him being good. I just try to ignore the personal stuff even though I know I shouldn't

The funny thing is that Jordan (and don't get me wrong, i'm a Bulls an Jordan fan) is a monster of a human being. This is a dude that cheated on his wife, is a compulsive gambler and even flew out the guy that beat him out on his HS basketball team to his HOF speach so he could ridicule him (youtube it, its disturbing). But he never got publicly exposed like Tiger did. So he is not vilified.

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player ever, and Tiger very well may be the best golfer ever. I did and will root for both of them, because these dudes are amazing athletes, not because they are amazing people. If people knew everything their favorite athletes, actors and musicians did in their personal lives, then they wouldn't like any of them.

I was pumped. Before all the weirdness, Tiger was one of my 5 favorite athletes of all time (and I'm not trying to debate the definition of that word right now). I can't say nothing has changed for me since all his personal stuff came out, but really that has nothing to do why I liked him in the first place. I'm a golfer and I like watching golf anyway, but when Tiger is playing the back nine on Sunday with a shot to win it is just so much better. It is one of the best things to watch in all of sports.

do you have a link for the jordan speech? i looked it up on youtube and never heard anything about a high school teammate...only thing I noticed was a jab at Byron Russel and Bulls Management...

Love him or hate him, golf is more relevant with Tiger in the mix.

The only difference between Tiger and a lot of his predecessors is the internet and the 24/7 new cycle. Even some of his contemporaries are pretty happy he's here because it keeps the media focused on him instead their own issues.

Should be a great year with the young guys coming on challenging the older guys!

i agree with pretty much everything in this thread--
especially wooly and the mullet (which i think is the name for a new CBS hit comedy!). i love watching tiger roar. i love watching him fist pump an eagle or a big putt for par--the facts are:
personal life shouldnt matter**although deplorable**
the sport is better when he's at his best
most famous people you like, you probably wouldnt like if you knew them. FACT.
that's pretty much the nuts of this thread...
i would add--i hate tigers tantrums. i think it was saturday, hit a bad iron into the green. didnt cut the way he wanted and he turned and beat a divot into the ground. the releasing of the club on a miss hit. its not right and is disgusting.

Opinions here have been well stated. I rooted for Tiger before the "fall", and I root for him now. He paid the price for his transgressions. Both financially and personally. And I love a comeback. This guy is 2nd only to Jack, and if he continues to play the way he did a Bay Hill, he'll be tough to beat. And more Majors will come. And then he will be the GOAT. And that is what I hope to see. So I can say I witnessed the 2 greatest golfers ever - one at the end of his prime, and one during his entire career.
