Sorry to go off topic but does anyone know when ISD puts their power hour up? I missed like the first 50 min.

It will be posted later tonight more than likely. Check the ISD homepage and it will say "Power Hour Loaded" when it is.

Listening to him now. Sounds very intelligent. His brother attends Penn so you know Academics are big in his family.

After listening to this guy on Power Hour, i would bet almost anything that he is Irish. 17 year olds that speak with that kind of maturity only end up at Notre Dame or Stanford and, like with Garnett, there is something different in the way the guys who end up at Stanford act.

If academics are truely important to him as he says than it doesnt matter if Urban offers. Just ask Adophus Wahsington why he picked OSU “It’s the education part,” Washington continued. “I know all these schools athletically can offer me the same thing. The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you’re giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail.”

Ohio State is actually becoming a very difficult school to get into. I hate OSU but they have very tough academic standards compared to what they used to be.

what did they used to be a 12 on the ACT and a 1.8 GPA? Bumped up to a 15 on the ACT to a 2.1 GPA?

That made me laugh the first time I read it and it did it again the second time.

No they really have stepped up admissions. Look at the stats of recent classes of freshmen. Much better than when I went there. And for the record I wouldn't have had a problem getting in now. :)

This is all true, but they don't hold those standards for football players like ND and Stanford does.

This guy's got jokes.

Yes I do, but in all jokes there is a little truth;)

I am not saying OSU doesnt have smart students, good students, professors and programs...I just say like all schools the make exceptions for football players and unlike ND the make very big exceptions at OSU.

If Aaron Lynch wasn't an elite football player there's no way the admissions committee would have even read his application with his 19 ACT score--the average score for incoming ND students is 33. Every single school makes huge exceptions.

Ok, point taken but I have a feeling he is doing more of the leg work now that he is in. And lets get back on point about James, I'm sorry for ever making a point saying anything negative about OSU, I concede, they are the Harvard of Ohio!!!! Back to Mr. Onwualu!

But blanket statements like that really ignore a basic truth of recruiting. Schools like Stanford, ND, Duke, etc. simply do not recruit some kids they deem can't or won't handle the academics or represent the university well. And this doesn't just apply to top private colleges... every school has a line in the sand somewhere. Ohio State's is set lower than ND. It's also set lower than many other schools but it's also set higher than many other schools in DI.

I think it's important to recognize that there are vastly different degrees of "exceptions" schools are willing to make. For instance, Ole Miss is willing to make an exception on almost anyone (see: Anthony Standifer). Stanford certainly isn't. OND is definitely not the most stringent in the land, but we're up there and our exceptions still only include kids who can handle the academic rigors of the school. Ohio State, Alabama, etc. will readily take kids that they know will fail and also not push them in the classroom to do anything but stay academically eligible.
